Two years have passed since the crooner brought the campaign for his eighth studio album to a halt. Then titled ‘UR,’ the LP’s singles were received warmly, but didn’t ignite the kind of momentum needed to launch an album from.
Instead, Mr Raymond hit the touring circuit and has diligently been working on the set since.
Now it appears the time has arrived for its long-awaited unveiling. Per Roger Friedman over at Showbiz 411, the project is due imminently:
Usher tells me he has a new album coming in July. He executive produced it. I don’t have the song titles yet. There will be a big launch in New York reminiscent of when Usher performed with the off Broadway “De La Guarda” troupe.
This time he’ll be doing something very innovative with the people behind “Sleep No More.” The album is timed to the release of [Usher’s] new movie “Hands of Stone,” coming out August 26th.
What’s more, a track titled ‘Rivals’ featuring Future was reportedly played for tastemakers. It’s being touted as a potential lead single. Take a listen to a snippet via Usher Brasil below…
Beyond any such single, Usher has his work cut out for him more broadly after sadly letting the notion of “selling out” to Pop become mass opinion of him. This despite his last album being a largely R&B affair.
Still, he has the benefit of being a talented act with a ample prestige left on his name. Hence, with the “right” single, “right” setup, and “right” push, he’s only step away from making a colossal comeback.
