Report: Usher To Release New Album In July / Teams With Future For Lead Single?

Is Usher set to heat up the music landscape this summer?

If a new report proves true, the answer could indeed be “yes.”

Full story below…

Two years have passed since the crooner brought the campaign for his eighth studio album to a halt. Then titled ‘UR,’ the LP’s singles were received warmly, but didn’t ignite the kind of momentum needed to launch an album from.

Instead, Mr Raymond hit the touring circuit and has diligently been working on the set since.

Now it appears the time has arrived for its long-awaited unveiling. Per Roger Friedman over at Showbiz 411, the project is due imminently:

Usher tells me he has a new album coming in July. He executive produced it. I don’t have the song titles yet. There will be a big launch in New York reminiscent of when Usher performed with the off Broadway “De La Guarda” troupe.

This time he’ll be doing something very innovative with the people behind “Sleep No More.” The album is timed to the release of [Usher’s] new movie “Hands of Stone,” coming out August 26th.

What’s more, a track titled ‘Rivals’ featuring Future was reportedly played for tastemakers. It’s being touted as a potential lead single. Take a listen to a snippet via Usher Brasil below…

Catchy.

Beyond any such single, Usher has his work cut out for him more broadly after sadly letting the notion of “selling out” to Pop become mass opinion of him. This despite his last album being a largely R&B affair.

Still, he has the benefit of being a talented act with a ample prestige left on his name. Hence, with the “right” single, “right” setup, and “right” push, he’s only step away from making a colossal comeback.

  2. Annalise May 30, 2016

EFWFEEFWFEF!! but can we discuss his “leaked” snapchat pics plz! Why was the emoji that was covering his dingaling so small!!!!!!! Maybe bae was having a bad day? Inquiring minds want to know!

    • Coolness May 30, 2016

According to an interview he had recently, taking cough syrup (he was sick) then proceeding to get into a steam room/shower don’t go together very well, ???!

      • Annalise May 30, 2016

PHEWWWW! my faith has been restored!! Lmao I refuse to believe that King Ush ain’t packing! ???

    • Lols May 30, 2016

Im looking for an app that can remove that emoji

      • Annalise May 30, 2016

You and me both gurl!!!!! LOL!

  3. grapejuicefan May 30, 2016

Don’t waste your time, your time has came and went ??

    • LmfaoHoe May 30, 2016

Usher still got it, I just wished he stick to his roots n release real music that’s R&B. He should be on such a level as Beyonce honestly. Smh I stay replaying his Confession album.

      • tyana Jones May 30, 2016

        No he’s not no more.

  4. Coolness May 30, 2016

Chile… Okay, Usher. I lost any excitement when he didn’t release the album last year. At this point, I’ll just take whatever he’s offering. I think that’s the general consensus regarding him these days. Still talented though.

  5. Fancy BISH May 30, 2016

Usher is the boy next door with edge, just like Bobby Brown…he needs to cut out all of the extra stuff and get back to “boy meets girl” music…he’s trying too hard to be different, Meghan Trainor lol…8701 had jam after jam on it! Why are all his new songs so weird and dry? Brandy going through the same thing…JT, Beyonce and Pink are STILL making hits…there’s no reason he shouldn’t be making them as well…he still looks the same!

    • Danzou May 30, 2016

Exactly. He’s simply trying too hard to be different when he already had a lane cut out for him. What makes artists think that “showing growth” means that you literally abandon your craft and expect people who aren’t a fan of the music you switched to to buy the music and come to your shows and support a different genre of music?

    • Meiz May 30, 2016

      Lol@ grannyonce making a hits….Keep deceiving yourself

    • Arianator May 30, 2016

Exactly what hits are JT and Beyonce making??

      • Meiz May 30, 2016

        Lol.They can lie

      • Danzou May 30, 2016

They’re making the hits that ariana ain’t making that’s what hits b**** don’t try me today. Bey and Timberlake have all platinum albums in their discography and their tours sell out every time.

      • Meiz May 30, 2016

        Stop lying to yourself. Hahahahaha

      • Janet May 31, 2016

Justin Timberlake – Cant Stop the feeling, Mirrors, Suit and Tie, TKO, Not a Bad Thing, etc.

Beyonce- Drunk in Love, Hold up, Formation, Partition,XO, etc.

These are just a few over the last couple years. You wanted receipts, so now you got them.

  6. Danzou May 30, 2016

Honestly if he ain’t giving me confessions tease then I’m not here for it he can keep it.

    • King Mark111 /.\ May 30, 2016

People like you are the reason most artist can’t grow. Why redo what he already did 12 years ago? Confessions is a classic tho, but let’s move on.

      • Danzou May 30, 2016

Alicia Keys as well as Beyoncé and maxwell Justin Timberlake AND brandy have all shown growth without going top 40. I absolutely am a fan of usher but he honestly made the wrong decisions. His last good effort was raymond versus raymond. It’s not about growth when you blatantly abandon your craft. That’s why Ciara isn’t selling anymore because abandoned her lane.

      • King Mark111 /.\ May 30, 2016

I must agree. But I think he TRIED to do something different with Looking 4 Myself. And Here I Stand should had been the album, or at least the theme for an album NOW vs then.

  7. RihNavy May 30, 2016

I don’t see it for him, at this point, tbh. He missed his opportunity.

  8. ???????Chile, take this “Itty Bitty Piggy” to the market and make sure you hold her hand while crossing the street!??????? May 30, 2016

I’m not mad at him clinging to relevant acts to stay afloat. There’s nothing wrong with that, but I’m mad at people saying that his stick is thin and skinny judging off of those infamous snapchat pics. Please! He wasn’t even erect and hard all the way. Give the man a break and let him get a proper lift first.

  9. King Mark111 /.\ May 30, 2016

R&B is pretty much back IF he take a cahnce and not play it safe. With feature being a feature, I’m sure it will be the same sol cling to the latest rapper/writer/producer. He needs a Timerland. But he’s still the best all round entertainer in the bizz. Vocals are still there, he can still dance. I mean he is going 23 years in the game and I don’t see the other cats out doing him and his peers are dead.

  10. Lindia Colmon May 30, 2016

Usher just lost a fan. Will not be purchasing sorry he needs to go back to basics and this song is not it. Bye boy

    • tyana Jones May 30, 2016

      Lolololol

  11. UR May 30, 2016

Usher’s doing what he wants to. Get with it – or don’t.

    • Danzou May 30, 2016

      Lol most of us don’t.

      • Meiz May 30, 2016

Speak for youself. You Stan for an old thief though. Usher is doing good

      • Danzou May 30, 2016

        An old thief?

  12. LmfaoHoe May 30, 2016

Usher omg s*** delicious chocolate ??? God

    • Fancy BISH May 30, 2016

      Chile, YES!

    • What Now May 31, 2016

      I agree. He is s***.

  13. DIABETIC COMA May 30, 2016

Aside from Justin TimberLATE Usher is the only washed up star i could see making a huge comeback. Though his voice is pretty Boring (hes no Babyface or even Tyrese whom always made better R&B music/classics) i do like Good Kisser. If its anything like good kisser he will do fine.

    • Danzou May 30, 2016

Good kisser was a great direction for him. But the video was basic and I think the main issue that artists are having are visuals these days. Bey and rih have been the only artists coming thru with urban visuals lately. Even gaga had great visuals to boost her career. Usher needs a consistent sound and an aesthetic.

      • UR May 30, 2016

Usher has always said that he wants to be versatile as an artist. Gotta do for you at the end of the day.

      • Danzou May 30, 2016

Versatile doesn’t mean that you abandon your craft. Being versatile and switching genres is two different things.

    • tyana Jones May 30, 2016

      He still a washed up.

  14. Annalise May 30, 2016

Usher will be just fine, as long as he keeps touring and keeps that chiseled body dripping in oil! Two decades in the game and he’s still a major touring force. Women are still paying their hard earned coinT to see him, wishing they would get picked to go on stage and get a lapdance during Trading Places. He’s still got it, even if his music is declining.

  15. JOHNVIDAL May 30, 2016

So all these people struggling to realease their albums for the last 3 years have seen Gwen Stefani finally did it and have decided it is time for them too (include Fergie here too).

  16. DIABETIC COMA May 30, 2016

The confessions album is def a R&B classic but too lengthy & sum filler. Usher needs bigger producers. Sadly though he lost momentum. Bey works nonstop not simply for relavance but also for good stamina, the voice & body ages as an entertainer gets older, only way to sidestep is to never stop or take more than a few months break. Its already affecting Rihanna & Chris brown whom does need a break

    • tyana Jones May 30, 2016

Rihanna and Chris are not taking a break.

  17. King gemini May 30, 2016

Isn’t this album like 2 years over due if ya gone shade Rihanna shade usher too, cause this like his 5th “lead single” when the album been was due

    • Danzou May 30, 2016

If he would’ve went on tour and released the album when good kisser and I don’t mind took off then he would’ve gone platinum by now lol

  18. DIABETIC COMA May 30, 2016

There are ATLEAST 50 male R&B acts that are better than usher musically & Vocally. But Ushers dance ability & Hiphop influence def gives him the edge. Plus im tired of white artist singing R&B instead calling it pop/soul but if black artist sig the same song its called R&B. Genre should be about music not race.

    • Danzou May 30, 2016

You can thank white people for that. I totally agree. White people are so annoying.

    • UR May 30, 2016

“ATLEAST 50 male R&B acts” that are better than Usher vocallly? Names.

      • Danzou May 30, 2016

Yeh I’m waiting on those names too. The only two that can compete with him are maxwell and maybe tyrese if you ask me.

    • Coolness May 30, 2016

50 though? Usher ain’t no Luther but that’s a stretch.

  19. Who gonna check me boo?? May 30, 2016

It so frustrating to see him going slowly but surely into flop land. He should a have been the male version of Beyoncé relevency wise. If Beyoncé and JT can stay as relevant as the current artists so can he. his last album kinda flopped but that his only true flop. He need to regain his A list status and stop acting like an Instagram thot a la Chris brown or The game or he might end up selling like them

    • Danzou May 30, 2016

Yeah at one point him and bey were the pinnacle of pop culture. But ever since black lives matter white people haven’t been buying black music.

  20. #JACKIE May 30, 2016

Usher is boring now and a has been. Happy Memorial Day f*** and hags!

    • RihNavy May 30, 2016

      Happy Memorial Day hœ!!!

Is this really coming from a Ciara fan?

  21. Annalise May 30, 2016

NOT the urn Stan disappearing yet again, like the weak-moistpüssy bítch “she” truly is. How bout we put you in the same coloured coffin as your fave? That would be a cute lil tribute , aye?

    • RihNavy May 30, 2016

    • RihNavy May 30, 2016

      Shenbeejvejewbhs

  23. Bitchpleaseeee May 30, 2016

I wished Usher will just go away for a long time before coming out with something unique and very RnB ie Confession 2.0. I man he’s such a brilliant actor so why not do some movies, TVs and the rest so the public will miss the music side of him before he decent like tornado on us when we’re least expecting. Somebody please talk to him to stop this mess before he loose anymore credibility. Please Usher don’t ………..????

    • Noah June 9, 2016

But it’s been 4 years….and “Hands Of Stone” is coming out which he’s in…

  24. DIABETIC COMA May 30, 2016

Did someone really ask me to NAME NAMES?? I dont want to hurt anyones feelings but Usher is just a super saiyan Trey songs chris brown. Maxwell Babyface Boyz2men Rkelly John Legend(better music not voice), Luther Vandros, marvin gaye, Robin Thike, MJ…….. Lets get serious here.

    • Danzou May 30, 2016

Ok but usher is UP THERE. His falsetto is bar none. Out of all his contemporaries, he’s the MJ. You can’t say that usher is vocally subpar especially after he released climax. You must not have seen his live performances. One of the few acts along with bey that can dance and sing and still keep breath control.

    • Noah June 9, 2016

Agree somewhat but i feel the only reason your not holding the quality of Usher’s music to those artists u mentioned is because he’s more “contemporary” than them….u must be underrating the maturity of his R&B, especially that in the “Here I Stand” album. “Good Kisser” and “She Came To Give It To You” are too examples….i think comparing pure vocalist to entertainers isn’t right either.

  25. RihNavy May 30, 2016

kashsjsgksg LMFAOOOO ANNALISE IM CRINE!!! NOT THOSE EMOJIS SHSBEJDGEJSB

    • Annalise May 30, 2016

      ? + ✈️ = ?????

  26. Stephon Jackson May 30, 2016

Usher’s not “washed up”… He’s just become somewhat of a “has-been”. There’s a difference. All he needs is that hit & boom he’ll be back on top, regardless of the album being good or not. We live in a singles driven generation. These kids ain’t worried about no damn full length albums. IF Usher wanna be hot again, he just needs another massive hit that appeals to everybody. He was known for making songs that literally STAYS in yo head, day in & day out. He was the type that released songs where all yo lil friends (including you) knew every lyric to that song. The Confessions era was perfection. It wasn’t lengthy like fat ass said at all. It was just right. He’ll never release another masterpiece like that again. But, Usher can get back on top of the Billboard Hot 100 & 200 with the right catchy R&B fused with pop music & marketing. Oh, and he needs to start slaying the stage again. His live performances are still good but haven’t necessarily been all that memorable either. Good luck, Errrsha. I like him better than Justin TimberFAKE

    • tyana Jones May 30, 2016

      Usher is washed up.

      • ? May 31, 2016

        Yea……..NO

    • ? May 31, 2016

Btw that comment was directed towards T***** Joke….. I mean Jones. Stephon you are ?% on point

  27. DIABETIC COMA May 30, 2016

Too start with saying theres a diffrence b/w Washed up & Has been is like saying theres a diffrence b/w Fat & Chubby which there isnt. But anyway I OWN the confessions album. That damn thing had/has 21 songs on it! Dont nobody got time to be picking through 21 songs just like nobody got time to be dissecting them 5 basic voice in that kellys step child group. CLASSIC tho but i could do without 7.

  28. DIABETIC COMA May 30, 2016

Caught up >>>> still my fav Usher Jam. Video was Dope. You make me wanna good contender.

  29. Bruh May 30, 2016

Usher can get a hit again. He just needs be serious and promote the F*** outta his album, slay the award show performances when his new singles come out, serve colorful visuals, serve urban/pop bops and start dressing more flashy and street again (gold chains, shades, ripped jeans, jordans) like he use too cause Chris Brown and Jason Derulo are killing him in that lane because that Cuban and white boy look is played out on him (I know THEYRE in their late 20s and he’s in his mid 30s but that don’t mean s*** fashion is fashion he just needs to be classy with it ) but on a positive note it’s better he collaborates with Future to get the kids interested in him. As Stephson Jackson said, Usher is not a flop he’s just being labeled (for a stupid reason) somewhat of a has been when he can still sell out arenas and he’s not in a Alicia Keys/Christina Aguilera/Mariah Carey type predicament . He just needs that one big hit. Even though he’s quiet Im sure anytime now he’s gonna f*** up Pop & R&B again with the right song and promo in this era he could probably have a 2011/2012 Chris Brown comeback or a Purpose type comeback. He can still perform his ass off and he has what it takes. He needs to show Breezy,Bieber, and Derulo who there maker is. Also one more thing he needs to do is Features,Features, and Features.

    • ? May 30, 2016

Damn f****** right Usher needs to show Justin,Chris, and Jason who there dad is. But deadass tho if Usher raises the bar again with innovate performance and smooth dances moves. Those 3 guys that was mentioned are gonna be motivated to be better performers even Justin T Cause he stale as f*** now. But I noticed since Ush went on hiatus they’ve all just been rehashing his image and performances. Like y’all m************ ain’t the king ?????????

      • Danzou May 30, 2016

Yeah Chris dewholo and Bieber are just “great value” versions of usher. They can’t sing as well as him and they can’t perform as well as him. Chris Brown is to usher like Ciara is to Beyoncé. A lesser version that is vocally subpar.

    • ? May 31, 2016

Tyana if anything Chris wants to be Usher,JT or R Kelly so badddddddd

    • #PURPOSE May 31, 2016

I agree with everything you said especially the fashion part. So basically he needs to wear similar outfits to the one he wore at the bad boy reunion (btw I was there). He looked great that night and fresh may I add he oozed so much confidence on the stage ,his outfit was fire with the j’s and his performance was the best of the night. The Usher I saw that night was the one I’ve been searching for years. TRUST ME WHEN I SAY USHER STILL HAS “IT”

      • tyana0001@yahoo.com June 6, 2016

Just watch usher album pash back again.

    • Noah June 9, 2016

Don’t exactly agree with this, i feel ur pushing him to compete with the Breezy’s and Derulo’s by asserting the he need to wear chains and try an appeal to the “teen” demographic. Those artists are rookies and Usher has grown out of that phase and has a much more of a broad audience. Chris Brown is NOT a threat with his hit-less singles and non-platinum albums. Usher, like JT and Bruno has a more mature quality to him and his appearance, but still tries to spark energy and remain contemporary like in his “Good Kisser” video, i would narrow it down to more promotion.

  30. tyana Jones May 30, 2016

Y’all know Chris is better than rip now?

    • tyana Jones May 30, 2016

Y’all know Chris Brown better than usher right now?

      • LmfaoHoe May 31, 2016

I like Chris but girl don’t fool yourself, Chris has yet to put out a CLASSIC ALBUM along with the hits that have impacted just as much or more than Ushers. Chris nothing compared to the slayage Usher, JT, R. Kelly, even Bruno Mars have done for the industry. Usher catalog is greater that his by serious default.

      • ? May 31, 2016

if anything Chris wants to be Usher,JT or R Kelly so badddddddd

      • tyana Jones May 31, 2016

Usher is not keep up new artists like Chris Brown, trey sonz and August anilna.

      • tyana Jones May 31, 2016

Chris is right now a legend at age f****** 27 tour overseas it’s crazy!!! And because USA hates him so much.

    • Noah June 9, 2016

LMAO u dumb as hell. Chris Brown ain’t had NO hit from “Royalty”…maybe “Back To Sleep” reaching #20 on the mainstream and #5 on the R&B chart, but the rest of his singles were flops. Breezy and the other two average n***** ONLY appeal to teens. Usher appeal to the world compared tot hem, he sell a tour anytime with all ages knowing his iconic hits. Are they more relevant to the “young” audience? Yes, that’s it. Usher’s last song “I Don’t Mind” was a bigger hit than anything Breezy put out since “Loyal”. Guaranteed he will outsell him album-wise just like when Looking 4 Myself outsold Fortune.
