Drake’s ‘Views’ To Spend Sixth Week At #1….Despite Being Outsold By Beyonce’s ‘Lemonade’

Published: Tuesday 7th Jun 2016 by David

Drake‘s new LP ‘Views’ is to spend its sixth week atop the Billboard 200…even though it isn’t the highest-selling project of the week.

Streaming-based confusion below…

This week, the album is set to top the tally thanks to streams it has garnered as his cut ‘One Dance‘ continues to rock radio globally.

Why this is set to rub Beyonce the wrong way? Her new album ‘Lemonade’ is outselling his.

Drake (YMCMB/Republic) 130-140k
Beyoncé (Columbia) 68-73k
*Paul Simon (Concord) 60-65k
*Volbeat (Republic) 45-50k
*Maren Morris (Sony Music Nashville) 40-45k
Rihanna (Westbury Road/Roc Nation) 37-41k
Ariana Grande (Republic) 36-40k
Blake Shelton (Warner Bros. Nashville) 31-35k
*Dan + Shay (Warner Bros. Nashville) 29-33k
*Tegan and Sara (Warner Bros.) 26-30k
Adele (XL/Columbia) 26-30k
Twenty One Pilots (Fueled by Ramen) 25-28k
Dierks Bentley (Capitol Nashville) 23-26k
Meghan Trainor (Epic) 23-26k
Fifth Harmony (Epic) 22-25k

*Paul Simon (Concord) 59-64k
Beyoncé (Columbia) 46-50k
*Volbeat (Republic) 43-47k
*Maren Morris (Sony Music Nashville) 42-46k
Drake (YMCMB/Republic) 29-33k
*Tegan and Sara (Warner Bros.) 24-27k
*Dan + Shay (Warner Bros. Nashville) 22-25k
Blake Shelton (Warner Bros. Nashville) 21-24k
Dierks Bentley (Capitol Nashville) 17-20k
*Hellyeah (Eleven Seven) 17-20k
Adele (XL/Columbia) 16-19k
Chris Stapleton (Mercury Nashville) 12-15k
Prince (Warner Bros.) 11-14k
Now 58 (NOW) 11-14k
Ariana Grande (Republic) 11-14k

Sans streaming points, Drake’s ‘VIEWS’ slips to #5 and Beyonce’s ‘Lemonade’ remains at #2.

In fact, Bey’s set stands as one of four albums that chart above Drake’s LP on a sales front, led by Paul Simon’s ‘Concord’ which is actually the highest-selling project in the U.S. this week.

Things are even more problematic when one takes a look at Rihanna‘s digits.

For, once streaming units garnered by her project ‘ANTI’ are removed, the release slips out of the Top Ten.

Where it sits armed with streams? #6.

The only reason Beyonce is selling so much in pure sales is because the album is on one streaming platforms. Which forces people to buy the album

    • Surprise..(DEC 2013) June 7, 2016

Which is even more impressive, because it cost 18 dollars and people are still buying. It would be better to go to tidal and stream an 18 dollar album than buying it.

      • Rihboy June 7, 2016

Honey no. People rather pay the 18 to have it then pay monthly or deal with the headache of today’s thieving ways. So yes it helps beys sakes for being exclusive. She knows damn well had it been available on all outlets like anti it wouldn’t be charting where it is. Rihanna made her album available on all outlets in the same breath! It still crossed a million sold in the u.s. im still not understanding why anti is a topic. This is about views and lemonade. Anti debuted in january. Why can’t the hive just be happy for bey peacefully? She is trumping with her tour, and is still at number 1 on iTunes with her album. Unfortunately drakes demand is higher do to streaming assistance. But that doesn’t take away from her. I’m pretty sure she isn’t as worried as you guys get. We all knew she would be blocked. She probably will go to number 1 if she opened it to all outlets. But I believe she solely made her move to try and help tidal which in recent news is doing tragically and is about to become a Samsung app for a new phone. Hence anti diary! These artist been showing us all along what they about to do.

B**** ain’t nobody about to read that long ass essay.

    • Weezy Tha Goat/ Zayn is ? June 7, 2016

The excuses, and Rihanna’s Anti was being only streamed on Tidal and still flopped. So sit

    • Nobo June 8, 2016

That’s an assumption that has no merits.

I’m not here for the what ifs or if not. The fact is, the album is selling currently. If it’s so easy to sell records, Rihanna could have pulled her album from streaming platforms, based on your logic, and sold 2xs as much.

Beyonce is a known album seller. These are her regular numbers. Streaming has nothing to do with it!

  4. Weezy Tha Goat/ Zayn is ? June 7, 2016

Without streams Beyoncé would be destroying Drake no shade though.

    • Runabout June 7, 2016

Wouldn’t that make Paul Simon have the #1 album tho??????

  6. #TeamTinashe Stan June 7, 2016

This whole streaming thing needs to END!
Congrats Drake! Even though I wasn’t feeling his album or Beyonce’s album.

    • Rihboy June 7, 2016

You say that now until it helps your fave. I still don’t see why you guys are upset about streaming. It’s fair. Supply and demand.

I know a lot of people hate streaming points but i think Billboards point is to show OVERALL interest and if people are listening or streaming your material there is interest in the product regardless if people actually buy it or not. Streaming is the future and the present so I dont think its hocus locus to count streams into it the ONLY people who should be worried about LITERAL sells are record labels because they invest the millions of dollars, but these days people want the bang for their buck so if i can listen to all the music i want for 10.99 , i Don’t care who gets the money as long as i get the music. Thats The new age.

  9. IStan4Rihanna. June 7, 2016

Why is this “confusing” exactly and why are we having this conversation again exactly?

If “pure sales” is what you want to remain to in order to determine the success of how well an album is performing in 2016 when Streaming is now the top earning music source over digital retailers & physical retailers then that’s what you choose to do – Billboard and the RIAA have gotten with the times. With that being said, Streaming revenue will continue to grow over the years until both the digital retail & physical albums are pretty much dwindled down to nothing. Sales plus steaming (SPS) has become the clearest way to look at what’s hot and what’s not, and if you don’t know how to analyze these numbers, you will be at a loss to understand music’s place in pop culture today and that’s all there is too it.

Whatever the case, congrats Drake and Bey.

Molly The Maid is always racing her b**** ass in these post only to get clocked every time. Cling to the Gavy h**, because their your only lifeline.

  11. Lose love June 7, 2016

If it’s about the “music”…why should any of this matter. It makes complete sense why streaming is included since that is how music is consumed the most these days. But everything is dumbed down to who sold more??? Really, you think beyonce cares??? And it’s problematic that Rihanna’s album that was released in the winter is still in the top ten?? You guys talk about how stupid it is artists are put against each other but what do you call this?

    • IStan4Rihanna. June 7, 2016

There are so many other mature, sensible blogs out there where one can actually attain mature conversation.
You’re not going to find that on TGJ who cater to a certain crowd mostly.

  12. Pat June 7, 2016

Great. I was upset at streaming being factored n at first but its a more accurate reflection of what people are actually listening to cause artists can buy their iwn albums

  13. Surprise..(DEC 2013) June 7, 2016

    • Jackson Five Nostrils (Tyler) June 7, 2016

People are only interested in listening to her music when they don’t have to pay for it. That’s why streaming is a f****** joke lol.
      Because its FRIH!

      • Surprise..(DEC 2013) June 7, 2016

      • Weezy Tha Goat/ Zayn is ? June 7, 2016

I streamed the f*** out of Anti, but I wasn’t about to waste my hard earn dollars on it. But streaming is definitely hurting the industry, the fact that you can collect a Gold or Platinum plaque for streaming an album/single is not only a joke, but it isn’t fair for artist like Beyoncé who can actually sell a million albums.

  14. Scoop June 7, 2016

Who cares about chart comparisons when you’re album is selling more than those placed higher than you? Just saying

  15. BeyKnowlesBest June 7, 2016

This list says alot People are actually BUYING LEMONADE Bey killing the game right now with no radio help! #Queen

  16. Royalkev June 7, 2016

I promise I’m not talking sideways, but if I had to choose between Yonce earning the #1 spot with streams or remaining at #2 with great sales every week – I’d stick with the latter. I’m not bothered, I’m sure Bey isn’t either!

  17. King Mark111 /.\ June 7, 2016

Funny, they aid Beyonce was gonna end Anti’s run, but Views ended up blocking Flopmation. Poor album was only #1 for a week. How weak? lol
Fun fact. Anti was the first 2016 release to go platinum, PERIOD. And also the first to go double plat… PERIOD! Also, she’s the only female artist with a 2016 release to be #1 on the singles AND album Billboard charts. 🙂

    • Mark111 June 7, 2016

Drake continuing to block Yonce on the album charts and slaying all Lemonades singles on the singles charts kiii, Antis singles, of course, slayed Lemonades too while still being top 10 after 5 months. We’ll see where Lemonade is in 4 months.

    • Mark111 June 7, 2016

We’ll see where Keri is in 4 months, oh wait she’s on the irrelevant train along with Ciara, and Keyisha Cole.

  21. No favs, just here for the music June 7, 2016

Drake is a f****** BEAST lmao. Congrats to him!! Not only are people buying his album but they are also streaming the hell out of it. And I mean THE HELL OUT OF IT lol! I guess that makes a beautiful marriage for the charts

  22. Vonc2002 June 7, 2016

Streaming is the way people listen to music now gtofoi.
And trying to discredit someone else to uplift a b**** u like more is petty and wack. OBVIOUSLY streams are substantial enough to be factored in hence RIAA and billboard including them. U need to get with the fckn times

  23. Keri Qween June 7, 2016

How would Lemonade be slaying Views without streaming? Lol the hive and their delusions. The album is still selling, less than Lemonade yes but hes still sold more overall

  24. Truth Speaks June 7, 2016

Yall worried about chart positions and sales, while Beyoncé doesn’t give one f*ck about either!

  25. Theman June 7, 2016

Streaming is the way that people who just talk crap use as a clutch for a flop. It’s too many other artists selling pure albums over streaming artists that should be ahead of them. Purchased albums > streaming. Streaming is only as impactful as it is because they gotta add singles/albums. R’s new album is not really 2x platinum.

    • JOHNVIDAL June 8, 2016

In fact Rihanna has flopped hard this time. With all the support from her easy music and streaminga s always but now not even that “works” for her. Her #1 single was very very uneventful and cooked too.

  26. Arthus June 7, 2016

    It’s easy why he’s staying at #1 :

One Dance is a hit !

I haven’t seen any Beyoncé single at #1 and everybody knows having a #1 single helps for the longevity of the album

  27. Authentic June 7, 2016

We talk about this all the time!!! We get the point. Some of you talk about the same s*** all day. Please get a job… honestly Views isn’t even all that… The pop star girls got murdered by Bey who has an larger reach as far as appeal an overal quality of content… She’s gonna keep selling like this for another year…

  28. LB June 7, 2016

Streaming is here, Billboard and RIAA won’t stop counting streams and people won’t stop consuming music through streaming.

Deal with it, nobody cares about your feelings.

  29. Reddish tran ivy blokz Need UK timelyyou June 7, 2016

    Good for him

  30. Lisa June 8, 2016

There’s nothing confusing about why he’s #1. Music physical sales alone aren’t the hottest, so accounting for streaming helps put in to account the true supply and demand for singles and albums. If you want to take out streaming, Paul Simon would be #1 not Beyoncé. He is outselling her this week in physical sales.

Beyoncé is doing very well, but stop acting like she’s disadvantaged when she isn’t always #1. Things are still working in her favor just not as much as Drake. Look at the physical sales for Drake and Beyoncé just a month in from their album releases and they are currently some of the biggest artists on the charts this year. The physical sales are horrible, so it’s definitely appropriate that Billboard started accounting for streaming. It’s 2016 and this is most fair to artists as streaming is the way most people listen to music and helps people know what people are listening to the most.

  31. JOHNVIDAL June 8, 2016

Rihanna flopped har this go round. Work has been nothing but a fake hit single. Real sales wise it has been a big flop. She couldn´t even release her album last year to begin with and she had to resort to recording crap material once again. She has absolutely never sold big, but this time she has just flopped.
Beyonce I still don´t acre about her like that. And I´ve always said she never was one of the big sallers when she had the opportunity. Not on the biggest ever levels at all. BUT I respect a lot the last moves in her career, especially these last 3 albums, and she has now become one of the big sellers from nowadays pathetic industry. She murdered Rihanna in a f****** week for f**** shake!(once again I mean). How can any Rihanna fan still ask retarded questions like “where are Beyonce´s singles?” LMAO

  32. Nobo June 8, 2016

At any given moment Beyonce could resurge and release “Lemonade” to all platforms. Which is probably very likely now that the album is certified platinum off of physical sales.
Never count the person out who didn’t hatch all of their chickens at once.
Lemonade has a few more legs in terms of traditional album role out and modern aged role outs.
Beyonce could easily end the Tidal exclusive this month and perform on the BET Awards and cause this debate to be null and void. We’ll see what her team has planned.

  33. RICHIE_RICH June 8, 2016

To be real I don’t think Beyoncé care. What u think she care about is the formation tour !!!!! That’s where the MONEY is. Just my opinion.

    • RICHIE_RICH June 8, 2016

  34. simsalexd June 8, 2016

Lemonde is now certified PLATINUM in the US based off of pure sales!! QUEEN!!!!! ?????

  35. JessJ June 8, 2016

Hey b******, guess what — Beyonce doesn’t own the world, she doesn’t run the world, she doesn’t do whatever the f*ck she and her obsessed fans want to believe. Other artists are more successful than her. Stop trying to spin it otherwise.

  36. Anti-garbage singing voices June 8, 2016

That’s because Apple is paying for Drakeb2 be nr1.

  37. Anti&Lemonade June 8, 2016

Formation world it’s a stadium tour while anti world tour was an Arena tour in the usa . It’s obvious Formation world tour will outgross Anti world tour USA leg …
    So i don’t get this comparaison . It’s dumb.

  38. Briej June 8, 2016

Beyonce tour may have grossed that amount and that’s great but keep in it cost almost 3 million a night to build up and take down her stage so do the math. So I’m glad shes selling out dates
