Jennifer Hudson Signs With Epic Records

L.A Reid is slowly but surely building quite the roster over at Epic Records.

For, it’s being announced that the mogul’s latest roster acquisition is Grammy and Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson.

Full story below…

The ‘And I Am Telling You’ belter has inked an exclusive contract with the growing imprint, revealed Reid in a statement.

He said…

“Jennifer Hudson is the defining voice of this generation. Her award-winning presence on records, in film, and on stage establishes her as one of the premiere artists to emerge in this century. I’m enjoying collaborating with my friend and mentor Clive Davis on Jennifer’s first Epic album and excited for her fans to hear what we’re up to… all will be revealed soon!”

Interestingly, the contract sees Hudson make a lateral move within the Sony Music family (where Epic is housed).

Following ‘Dreamgirls,’ she penned a deal with J Records (under the stewardship of Davis) and was later absorbed into RCA Records when the former was dissolved.

During her time with the previous regime, she released three albums. ‘Jennifer Hudson’ (2008), ‘I Remember Me’ (2011), and 2014’s ‘JHUD.’

In joining Epic, the singer joins a roster comprised of Fifth Harmony, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez, Meghan Trainor, and more.

************

We’ve long been in awe of J. Hud’s talent. However, we’ve also willed that she be gifted better material.

Hopefully, this new partnership brings those wishes to fruition.

Waste of time unless she learns how to control that voice of hers.

    • LISA LEVINE June 28, 2016

POOR THANG IS TRIBUTE SINGER. SHE’S THE NEW GENERATION’S PATTI LABELLE WITHOUT HAVING “ANY” HITS.

      • GirlGroupFan June 28, 2016

        She’s had a hit and a half…That counts.

    • MUSICHEAD June 28, 2016

You are so right. Jennifer only knows how to hit one note- LOUD!

  2. B2B June 28, 2016

EPIC is the move for Urban and Soul artist. LA still shady as hell.

  3. #JACKIE June 28, 2016

    She’s so blah.

    • QueenDime June 28, 2016

And what is Ciara ? The b**** that got dropped and has yet to inform her cough cough *six stans when she’ll release another album close to Evolution.

      • #JACKIE June 28, 2016

Someone who has sold more than JDUD’s screaming knock kneed ass. How many platinum albums does Screammifer have? Platinum singles? #1s? All she’s good for is tributes and karaoke. Fantasia slays her.

Congratulations Jennifer. Grammy, Oscar, Golden Globe, BAFTA and Screen Actors Guild (SAG) award winner.

    • QueenDime June 28, 2016

All the things Ciara does not have.

      • #JACKIE June 28, 2016

What has she done of merit since Dreamgirls??

  6. LmfaoHoe June 28, 2016

I always loved Jennifer, her album I remember me was great can’t believe everyone slept on that album. Ya gotta give it an honest listen. I just pray she cooks up the right songs n album all together and LA shady ass make sure her, Mariah ect get back into the glory of their talent.

    • ERIC June 28, 2016

I didn’t think her debut album was grammy-worthy, but this 2nd album I think was.

  7. The Legend Called Missy ElliottI June 28, 2016

No shade but all of her music sounds the same. Great voice but she needs someone to pick better music for her to record.

  8. jec2 June 28, 2016

Maybe this team can get her some original music that she’ll be allowed to perform at awards shows….At this point in her career, she is an oscar and grammy award winning tribute singer….she has such a great voice, but I just don’t know if it will ever connect. Fingers crossed it does.

    • BEYSTAN_ SINCE 1997 June 28, 2016

I agree with everything you just said!!!! Jennifer should continue to do Broadway, and movies because she has been doing great on “The Color Purple” this past year. Award shows always over use her just like (Stevie Wonder & Patti Labelle). Personally the public does not take to Jennifer Hudson like they did to powerhouses like Mariah, Whitney, and Celine! She just doesn’t have that type of songs.

    • stan June 28, 2016

exactly my thoughts. her solo material just.. doesn’t work.

  9. Stephy June 28, 2016

No shade but she’ll flop wherever she goes. Vocally, this lady is a powerhouse, period. But, musically she’s very take it or leave it. Jennifer is the type of singer you’ll rather hear singing everybody’s songs except for HERS. In other words, she’s a tribute act type singer. She’s been a professional R&B/Pop/Gospel/Broadway singer in this industry for almost 12 years now. And, still haven’t achieved one classic ORIGINAL song. That’s the problem with a lot of these vocalist… Great voices, forgettable music. They have no true musical artistry outside of vocalizing/performing. Sad but true. Good luck to her tho

    • MusicLife June 28, 2016

I’m glad others are in the same sorta view of her as a singer as I am, stranger why she hasn’t had more musical success tbh.

  10. True Lambily June 28, 2016

Her albums flop bc the ppl don’t really Want to hear her sing she is a damn good actress leave the singing to FANTASIA

    • Speak on it June 28, 2016

No shade, but Fantasia sounds like Donald Duck.

  11. IG : @mixedboy June 28, 2016

I’ll just say don’t count the girl out. Mr. Reid has a way of pulling hits and vocals out of the girls. He def has an ear. Let’s see what he can get out of her. But if this partnership is a bust I would say just be a movie and tv show actress.

  12. Speak on it June 28, 2016

I like Jennifer, so i’m looking forward.

  13. Cinnamon Girl June 28, 2016

If legendary mogul Clive Davis can’t turn her into a household name what makes you think LA Reid can?

    • troy June 28, 2016

Jennifer Hudson has BEEN a household name before she even signed a record deal…good try tho

      • Cinnamon Girl June 28, 2016

The sad part is that she’s not a household name. She is not a Whitney Houston. You tried it, though

  14. MusicLife June 28, 2016

Sadly the issue with Jennifer Hudson is that she is gloried as this great vocalist but she seems to only recurve success and or acclaim for her musical tributes to other artists. Essentially she is a glorified cover artist.
    ?
Throughout her entire career all of her musical albums, all three have been forgotten completely, I like to say for some reason everything non musical about herself are the things we know and remember of JHud.
    ?
From her being a contestant on Idol, to her winning and Oscar for dream girls, to her family massacre, to her weight watchers campaign. For some reason it has never been about her music career directly.
    ?
Until that changes she isn’t going to recurve much success for her own music.

  15. The Kpop Guy, Matt~ June 28, 2016

She was a one hit wonder with spotlight.
For a power ballad type singer, WHERE are the Power Ballads that could make her career like Celine Dion and Mariah?
We have nobody close to them in our musical generation.
Arianna was a tease but she lacks that soul

  16. Sleeping June 28, 2016

Now no shade, but shade. BET knew Fantasia could murder death kill “Purple Rain” somebody don’t like Fantasia for whatever reason. Everybody was thinking Jennifer and Fantasia should have swaped duties. Lol. How dare you have Fantasia at an awards show and no utilize that GOD given talent. Now yall know something was up….why would they pan directly at Fantasia while Jennifer was singing. Reaching for a reaction. So happy Fantasia didn’t give them one.

  17. Sleeping June 28, 2016

    Good luck to you Jennifer!

  18. Dora June 28, 2016

They f***** up trying to turn her into the next Whitney. Jennifer has no musical identity like most talent show contestants. Broadway, weight loss jingles and tributes seem to be more of her thing.

  19. Al June 28, 2016

Lord Chile?! She is one of this centurys best FLOPS.
Clive can never create or find another Whitney ever.
She can scream all she wants but she got more chance of winning gold at Weight Watchers than having another gold album

  20. Slayriah Carey Nicole Slaysinger Jennifer Slaydson Slaysette Michele Slayshia Cole all >>>>>>>> Beyondshit >>>>>>>>>>>> Rihject June 28, 2016

what yall talkin’ bout! All of her albums are really good! I can say they are much better than beyonshit’s albums! How come nobody else talks about how s***** beyonce’s music is!

Oh yeah, because she’s a huge pop artist so it’s okay if she makes stupid music.

But Jennifer is an r&b artist so everything she does is never good enough for yall pop fans!

    SerIOUSLY!

If Beyondshit sang the same songs that jennifer sang you’d be calling them “the greatest songs of all time.”

And if Jennifer sang some of bey’s music you’d all be like “this is generic and she’ll FLOP!”

    • MusicFan103 June 28, 2016

Not even a Bey stan but this is too much. She is simply boring as an artist. And why isn’t she married still?

  21. Lake Erie June 28, 2016

Mmmmm good luck to her at Epic, they are on the fence . Definitely an upgrade from RCA, IDK what’s the deal with that label but no artist is eating there.

  22. MUSICHEAD June 28, 2016

If I were LA Reid, I would make Jennifer’s first Epic album an all star collaboration album. I’m talking Michael McDonald, Tony Bennett, Aretha Franklin, Celine Dion, Stevie Wonder etc. This would make her more than just an r&b artist and put her in a class above the current pop artists. I would make her the black Barbara Streisand of our generation.

    • MusicFan103 June 28, 2016

BUT STILL, who is even here for that?

      • MUSICHEAD June 28, 2016

Older middle and upper class white people and casual country listeners. Who do u think bought the Lady Gaga & Tony Bennett album? Who do u think buys Barbara Streisand and Celine Dion albums?

      • MusicFan103 June 29, 2016

@MUSICHEAD, those are white people. You tell me the last big black singer to cross into the lane where older white singers have sold? It was probably Whitney Houston, in the 90s. Its not happening for JHud.

      • MUSICHEAD June 29, 2016

75% of urban music buyers are white people. That is why r&b is dead, because the only black music young white people buy these days is rap with the exception of Beyonce and Rihanna. Once they stop buying rap that’s gonna die too. Unfortunately, a large number of black consumers do not have access to iTunes and do not use Spotify and other traditional music services. Most black people only listen to the radio or find songs they know on YouTube and maybe Pandora. Black people buy concert tickets not songs and albums. Until that changes, Jennifer better find her an audience with disposable income and that is older middle and upper class white people.
