I believe ANTI to be her most expressive and exciting work yet. ANTI is an album where an artist, who is seen by mainstream masses, to be nothing more than a pop puppet transcended the genre of pop music. At a first listen, I wasn’t crazy about ANTI as it was not a traditional Rihanna album, but once I saw her live at the ANTI Tour, I was blown away. She now has a message that she wants to present which is to be remembered. I mean this girl did a Tame Impala cover and did it better than the original! I don’t know how you can listen to Kiss It Better, Love On the Brain, Same Ol Mistakes, and Never Ending and not feel inspired.
I’m just now getting a feel for Anti but if this is most “personal” and “artistic” record then I would prefer the “generic” Rihanna. It just doesn’t seem like a legit album, like you have to be smoking weed to listen to it. As far Lemonade, that was a HUGE let down. From the promotion to the visuals & music. I think this project was something she didn’t put much thought into until it was time for her visuals and tried to create this story. First off, Needed Me was only serviced to urban radio; it has just recently crossed over to Top 40. Plus, Needed Me has excessive profanity and songs with profanity never do well at the top of the charts. Therefore, its success is only streaming and urban radio. FourFiveS did well because it was the first single. American Oxygen tanked SOLELY because of Tidal. By premiering and promoting it through tidal, it became a business conflict for Apple, and Clear Music, which why it did not do well. BBMM was a club anthem, but was not made for radio. Have you heard it on the radio? It’s damn awful. Roc Nation should have sent a better edited version to radio. On top of that, the mainstream needed a solid pop smash hit before accepting a trap banger. Like in 2012, they accepted Pour It Up, because they already had Diamonds and Stay. In all, I think Rih’s team could’ve done a better job on the rollout. I think Roc Nation is too concerned with Rihanna vs. Beyonce instead of one. Rih’s music is good but it’s release was all over the place, and a solid release is needed in today’s industry.
All I got from that is Rihanna needs a radio hit for mainstream to support her, a pop radio smash to be exact? 45Seconds wasn’t big enough? x2 platinum hit with features, the normal recipe. Lemonade sold dispite being FRIH to over 1 mill ppl on HBO… and dispite floping on HBO if u wanna go there. ALL ALBUMS ARE FRIH lol. NO EXCUSE for flopping with a 9 wk #1 and multiple top 10s. Lemonade has only TRAP singles so far that havent even achived much popularity compared to Work. Lemonade cost LITERALLY 2/3rds more than ANTI and still sold more in 4 days US & 2 weeks ww. Also outsold Views with simalar if not bigger singles success as Rh making it best seller of 2016 so far, streaming is only about charts not sales. And at present only ONE album has been hailed as competition to 25 grammywise and thats lemonade which has a way higher critic score than all mentioned albums. Why becuz it is a body of work and has more personality & direction. Also talks about diffrent, not just a relationship like fatdele & Rihscedule or Drake. It has depth unlike Anti which is about What exactly???
