The Official Singles Chart may be facing a monumental shakeup in the coming months.

What it may mean for the likes of Beyonce, Ciara, Drake and Angel?

Full story below…

BBC Radio 1’s playlist boss Chris Price has declared that he feels the singles chart has become stagnant after learning that the same five songs have occupied the top five for the greater part of the last few weeks.

Hits Daily Double breaks his solution to this problem down with…

He wants to discount curated playlist streams from the chart or include radio airplay. “That would bring the U.K. chart into line with most other charts in the world, actually, including the U.S. chart—which has included radio airplay for decades,” he told NME.

Today’s chart system uses a sales and streaming system (100 streams count as one sale) and would follow in the footsteps of the Billboard charts if it announced plans to throw airplay figures into the mix.

The Official Charts Company is yet to respond to Price’s suggestion.

What the B** needs to stop doing is charging us to dictate what music we want to listen to. The reason the same songs have been in the top 5 for weeks is because the same thing is played over and over again so people buy only what they are hearing and the B** is deciding to put on it’s playlist. By all means add all of these other options to the service but i doubt it will make a major difference as the B** id the predominant player in radio and TV.
They need to stop giving all the big starts free advertising.

The UK charts are the same as the USA in my books same s*** in the top ten week after week after week after week after week

Heyonce still cant get a #1 in da UK and America. THE STRUGGLE ??????????

You know a #1 single won’t make or break Beyonce’s career. You’re talking about ah artist who is still relevant 20 years since her inception.

Don’t do it, sis. Mariah hasn’t had a #1 or a top 5 hits longer than Beyoncé hasn’t had a #1 hit and both of them are still slaying the millennial generation.

But all of her albums debuted at #1…Albums costs more, last longer, and are more important than SINGLES. The reason why you put out a hit SINGLE is so you can sell the ALBUM idiot!

This isn’t going to make any difference, the same 5 songs that stay at the top of the charts are the same 5 songs they play on the A list at the radio stations that they are going to include in the charts, the streaming chart just reflects what the radio’s play. If you truly want a major shake up, 70% of music that is played on major UK stations should be from UK artist there should also be a percentage that is split between major labels and independent labels i terms of airplay, that way it would cut down the “pay for play’ as radio airplay has become the highest source of income for singles so you know the major labels pay for play it’s the only way they are making real money back from singles. This would allow much more room for UK music and artist , thats a real shake up

Unlike Billboard, I always find UK charts very exciting. When I was a kid, I always listen to classic like Abba, Kylie Minogue’s CGYOMH, Britney’s hits and a lot more songs which suprisingly was a flop in the US, while US was mostly dominated by now forgotten/local artist, sadly most of them R&B, the only international R&B artist is actually , well you guys know who, the one that you guys love to drag every single day, guess what? She had 5 number ones (Rih has 7 I think) and 7 include DC. Only six albums, she has 18 top tens tying Janet (11 albums?), but JJ does not has number one. She has altogether 29 too tens in her career.

Radio figures are at a low as most people make up their own playlist.
Only time I hear a radio is at work.
Pop stations same ol ish and urban stations sound pop now also just to be endorsed.

1xtra hasn’t gone as bad as Capital Xtra aka former Choice FM (where the real hits were kmt)

The U.K. Singles chart is a mess, it was better when it was just on sales. The album chart is kinder a mess too lemonade is outselling the the number one album in physical sales but due to streaming it’s losing out on the top spot, but I’m just glad Justin timber lake s***** song didn’t go number 1
