Owning the title of rap’s ninth best selling album of all time,the RIAA have awarded the 41-year-old’s debut set ‘Country Grammar’ a coveted Diamond certification. Exceeding the rarely seen sales of ten million units, Nelly now enters an exclusive club who also boast the shiny milestone.
Whilst spawning commercial successes that were singles ‘E.I’, ‘Ride Wit Me’ and ‘Batter Up’, housing LP ‘Grammar’ cemented the Grammy winner’s rise to fame, sitting atop the Billboard 200 for five consecutive weeks back in the early 00’s.
Not only is it an amazing feat for the St. Louis native, it’s one that should serve as a challenge to today’s top names. Sure, the means of ascending to such heights have become harder (see streaming et al). But the fact remains that these benchmarks are still there and attainable with the right hustle.

Everyone loved this album! And this was back in the day when artists did 4 or 5 singles from one album and milked the s*** out of it. I think this type of success is still possible. I just think we are in a culture now where artists/labels want the success right away and are not willing to really sell the body of work instead of one or two singles.

Aw, congrats to him! This album was HUGE. I guess he’s now the most recent Black artist to go Diamond as Usher previously held the title. People talk about Drake being as big as Nelly, 50 Cent and Usher were back in the 2000s but he’s really only making ground through streaming. Not that it’s his fault or anything. I guess it’s just the way of the industry today. Still, Nelly should be proud of this achievement.
