Tinashe taps the production power of hitmaking duo The Dream and Tricky Stewart for her latest jam, ‘Superlove.’
Teased earlier this week on social media, the tune was unveiled in full moments ago with a press release that saw T praise the song for its ‘infectiousness’:
“I have felt a strong urge recently to release a song that promotes positivity, love, and light,” she said in a press release. “Superlove” is a celebration of happiness. More specifically, it celebrates the kind of happiness that is so immense and infectious, that you can’t help but to rejoice in it.”

I LOVE IT!!!This is the type of club summer banger that with a killer video will push Tina’s to the masses, it has hit written all over it, its radio friendly and has crossover appeal on R&B and Pop Radio, this does everything that the boring Player failed to do. Her album will be killer cos Tina’s has an incredible sound but this is what she needed for a first single, mark my word this will be bigger than 2 ON!

But, Nah. I’m not really a fan of Rihanna or Taylor’s music, but the music being basic doesn’t really have anything to do with the type of music it is. And for the pop stars, just because a lot of people buy your music doesn’t mean your music isn’t basic as well. The definition of basic is Taylor swift and the definition of Taylor swift is basic, but I digress. I expect more from artists with talent. Let the “singers” who can’t sing and/or dance have the catchy, generic songs about nothing. Being basic is also indicated by context, I feel. I have the same issue with Ariana. Ariana is too good for the songs she puts out. Maybe they would be impressive coming from Selena Gomez, but for someone with Ariana’s ability, it’s basic. It’s not on her level. But I digress again. First, Music that isn’t basic has a newness about it. It’s refreshing and can draw inspiration from classics and oldies, but it needs to be from a different perspective, from a new perspective. Your take needs to show that you have a place in the industry, you bring something special to the table, because we don’t need multiples. We don’t need 2 Beyonce’s, 2 Rihanna’s, 2 Ciara’s. Those spots are filled. Second, complexity. I can understand one generic song, because maybe it’s only meant for dancing or radio, but Tinashe has made single-faceted, monotonous, humdrum songs that lack in variation, a trend in her music, at least for this album, as if only four different notes are played and just looped for the duration of the song. And third, lyric content. Similar to the second point, dance tracks are usually guilty of this because the artist expects you to dance to the beat without noticing that the lyrics suck. Take TIWYCF as an example. Even the most committed Rihanna Stan couldn’t argue that the song didn’t follow the generic blueprint down to final note. 3 minutes of song. 2 minutes of that is the beat or a repeating sound. Yoouu-hoo. ?. But for this song, I find the lyrics to be corny and uninventive, “You got me riding on that, riding on that, grinding up in this b****, Banana all in that split” ? And her voice works against her because the tone of Tinashe’s voice is pretty…simple. (And a little nasally, she needs to work on that). Tinashe is a fairly new artist who hasn’t broken out yet. She’s not at the point in her career where she can put out whatever and still get people to buy it. If she can make a record that really lets us know who she wants to be as an artist possibly through a nod to an older artist maybe Janet but from her perspective and not a carbon copy, (because she really hasn’t carved out her own lane yet either and this does sound like a Ciara reject), give us original material that has development, has intent, has purpose, and isn’t flat, run-of-the-mill popular music with substance charged lyrics, she could do some damage… and would be far from basic. THE END.
I love the “Love You Down” interpolation, obviously not the best thing she’s released but it’s cute and catchy. We all know she needs more than that to grip the masses. She’s in a very tough place as an artist because her mixtapes and album cuts were moody and substantive, which seems to be the music she wants to make, but she wanted a hit so she released “2 On”, “Player”, and now this. She has to realize you don’t have to trade your artistry for success, look at Bryson Tiller. I’m rooting for her.
Not what I was expecting nor did I wanted but as I listened to it for the 100th time I liked it as I started thinking about how the visuals should look. And with Tinashe’s KILLER dance moves the choreography would be EPIC especially with the last chorus drop.

I listened to it on youtube, and surprisingly, I liked it. It sounded dated, but I actually liked the melody/flow/feel of the song. Tinashe needs to stop playing and come up with a single her label will get behind. Updated production would have made this that single.
AWFUL! It’s weird because I loved Inoj’s ‘Love You Down’, but for some reason the sample sounds out of place with the Tinashe’s vocal delivery. All of the tracks she’s released for her sophomore album have been nothing compared to what Aquarius brought to the table.
