The road to redemption is looking smoother everyday for once-embattled songstress Lauryn Hill.

The diva – whose highly publicized tendency for tardiness has undoubtedly been impeding ticket sales/desire for fans to see her live – took to ‘Austin City Limits‘ in a rare televised appearance to remind concertgoers exactly why they should reconsider patronizing her recently announced tour (click here to read more on that).

Cranking out her career-defining hits like ‘Killing Me Softly,’ ‘Doo Wop (That Thing),’ and ‘Ex Factor,’ the performance – filmed in late 2015 – aired this weekend to much critical fanfare.

Started it… Stopped it after 5 minutes.. I wish she wouldn’t change the structure, and melodies of the songs. And what’s up with all the bright tempos?! It’s like everything is on speed! Ugh…

L, is a studio singer and always has been to me. She projects great on cd, and recordings but live she has NEVER brought it. Legend? no, not from one solid body of work. Her emotional journey has slowly destroyed her legacy.

Lets keep it real.. Her voice sucks at this point! People are still gassed of her release. I can’t call her a legend because legends have multiple bodies of work. 1 album is not enough for iconic status. Sorry. She needs to sort it out.

I actually agree. However the vast majority of the hard core R&B lovers in the world would draw blood & bleed out if you said other wise. The Fugees album & her as a solo artist are massive contributions to R&B however Ms. Hill status reminds me of Aaliyah, Tupac, Biggie who got there (Icon & Legend) status because of death, tragedies, or short comings.

She became iconic because of the quality of the album, how it changed the music industry with the claim and grammy nominations and also the achievement for a black female artist at that time and the style of music. For me Lauryn is iconic because the body of work is a classic and still stands the test of time all of these years on and she is still able to book and command a stage on her one album.
I think the same is said for Tupac and Biggie and Also Alliyah for the vision and the music they put out compared to their peers at the time

Someone who understands… People have gassed her up so much when she gives a good performance they hail her. An artists should give a good performance every time. And an artists should not be performing music from 20 years ago to be relevant. That is a serious issue

Good to see her time & energy aligned with the universe so she could make this show on time lol!

I do understand how some people will find that it’s too much reconstruction going on here with these gems that she’s so well known for. I heard these songs a million times, so I don’t mind the variations! I think if Lauryn took her time delivering a good vocal (and one that isn’t lazy, rushed or strained), the arrangements would work so much better! The background sounds very lovely! I’ll still love Lauryn though!

I’ve seen Lauryn 3 times and everytime has been phenomenal. She puts her all into a show. I wish she would sing some of the newer stuff she was playing a few years ago but the classics never grow old. I love her. And that Feeling Good performance was just “whoa.” Brought tears to my eyes.

Argh slow the heck down with your performances Ms Hill. Dunno why she feels she has to sing her classics so fast, it just ruins the songs.

Too much instrumental, too much noise her voice just gets drowned out

    How late was she?

It´s hilarious to see some people were praising The Pussicat Dolls yesterday LOL as if they had been… something! and then come here to say Lauryn is overrated. Just tells you most people here don´t know real talent and impact and success even if it came to their houses in person 🙂
Lauryb lost it. That´s true. But the Fugees album and then espeically her album is pretty much a masterpiece and I rmeember perfectly how she won the most grammys ever for a woman that year (I think it´s been broken after that year). The album is absolutely phenomenal. R&B is not really revevant and has never been in many places, for example Spain. But anybody could tell you here this was phenomenal. People really loved that album and Fugees everywhere despite being R&B. It was just tremendous quality.
