Chart Check [Hot 100]: Nicki Minaj Moves Closer To Making Billboard History

In January 2015 we reported rapstress Nicki Minaj, with 60 Hot 100 titles to her credit, was only 14 entries away from entering history books with “the most Hot 100 entries by a female in history.”

Held at bay by country darling Taylor Swift and Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin at the time, fast forwarding to September 2016 has seen little change.  Minaj, now with 68 titles to her credit, still remains 3rd in line behind Franklin and Swift.  However, with the addition of Ariana Grande‘s ‘Side to Side’ (which debuted at #31 last week), the ‘Va Va Voom‘ vixen is swiftly closing the gap between herself and her history-making competitors.

In reference to ‘Side,’ Billboard reports:

The song arrives as Minaj’s 68th Hot 100 hit, moving her to within five of Aretha Franklin‘s record for the most among women (73) and one shy of runner-up Taylor Swift’s total (69). (“Side” is Grande’s 21st Hot 100 title.)

Here is an updated look at the women with the most Hot 100 visits, dating to the chart’s Aug. 4, 1958 inception:

73, Aretha Franklin
69, Taylor Swift
68, Nicki Minaj
57, Madonna
57, Rihanna

Impressive! Tuck in below to see this week’s updated chart:

    Get them coins gurl

    • Slaylor Swift September 17, 2016

Does anyone respect Nicki as an artist anyway?

  2. Lmfao-H** September 17, 2016

I swear honestly, the charts don’t mean s*** anymore. If your album aint selling it really dosen’t matter (EX Jason Derulo, Pitbull, ect) cause anyone can get a #1 theses days no biggie. Back in the day the legends had to work HARD af to reach one along with moving units, streaming is a poor excuse and lazy way to score anything imo.

    • Kris September 17, 2016

Yeah the charts loss their credibility

    • Meme September 17, 2016

Actually no, everyone can not a #1. Even Beyoncé who perform at the Super Bowl, had a movie on HBO and had 2 major award show performance couldn’t get a #1. So no, you’re wrong. Secondly, having a #1 single or a hot single is critical to a well performing album in today’s industry. Only few artist today can carry an album without a hit single. So again you are wrong

      • Edwin September 18, 2016

Mmm then why does most the artist with no1 singles sell less physical album’s than beyonce guess u right only few artist today can carry an album without a hit single.so yess billboard 100 is no important when even a m***** can score a no1 the problem is with today’s music buyer we support garbage over true music hence we neva gonna hv a mariah,Whitney,Michael Jackson for this generation too much hype music

      • Lewey September 18, 2016

You do realize when she did all of those things you mentioned, she did not have anything new out. If she would have released formation right after her performance it would have been number one. You do realize that she sold out two tours because of the things you mentioned and sold a few million albums (Which earn more money than singles). She is a business woman and realizes that making a cohesive album pays off more than making an album full of singles. She always knows that touring makes more money than singles. Call me when you fave has SIX number one albums and counting. STAY PRESSSSSSTTTTT. DON’T BRING THE QUEEN INTO THIS!

    • Meme September 17, 2016

And honestly back in the days it was actually easier to have a hit single or a #1 record than it is today. Artist like A keys, Ciara, Beyoncé and usher who all had #1 singles will never see another #1. It was easier because people use to support music more. The only people that get #1’s these days are those who get continue radio play.

      • BEY>RIH September 18, 2016

You sound like a damn fool!!

      • Calebo September 20, 2016

That doesn’t make any sense. How was easier to get a #1 hit back then than it is today, when back then songs weren’t even eligible to chart on the hot 100 if they weren’t released as physical cd singles? Songs like “Into the Groove” by Madonna and “State of the World” by Janet didn’t even make the chart despite massive AirPlay because they weren’t available as cd singles. They would’ve been top 5 hits if the rules of today were in place then. Nowadays songs make the chart without being released as singles at all, radio or otherwise.

Music died a long time ago. No disrespect to Nicki and her acoplisments. Congratulations to her for being a black women doing her thing but the real music lovers on her know what I mean. Hell I remember when being on the cover of rolling stone meant something. I cried when they put Jersey shore on they’re cover… I need it was the beginning to the death of a musical generation.

    • Rosie September 18, 2016

      LOL at the excuses
What hard work? Radio payola? Because that was a huge reason for all of those #1 singles in the 90s. Streaming took over because it’s a much more accurate way than radio, who plays the same songs every 30 minutes, to see what the public is REALLY listening to. Especially now with sales being dead (Closer is the only song selling over 100K a week).
Things change, and the industry is changing just like it was when singles destroyed album sales. Get with the times.

  3. Molly #BLM September 17, 2016

Selena scores her 6th top 10 hit with we don’t talk anymore. ???❤

Fun Fact: Selena Gomez and Rihanna are the only female artists to score 3 top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 this year.

  4. Molly #BLM September 17, 2016

Its pretty amazing how someone can have that many chart entries yet not one #1 hit in sight ??

    • Abel Minaj (Arianator Barb) September 17, 2016

it’s pretty amazing how the person in your avi can have that many top 10s in 1 year and still be unknown…

      • The Kpop Guy, Matt~ September 18, 2016

        screaming!!!!!!!

      • Danzou September 18, 2016

Abel is gonna get comment of the year if he keeps this shade up good work. Funky ass selena Stan needs to be taken outside.

    • September 18, 2016

      you are one sad individual.

  5. September 18, 2016

Gratz to Nicki that little engine that could.

  6. M September 18, 2016

This is no disrespect to Nicki cause I honestly respect her hustle, but this “historic title” is honestly a joke. Anyway who has half a brain understands that she’s only accumulated this many entries is because she’s jumped on basically on anyone’s song as a “featured” artist over the last few years. Not knocking her for that cause she was clearly in demand to do so, but to even MENTION her name amongst Aretha Franklin and Madonna is a bit ridiculous….especially when you take into account how many of these Hot 100 entries are actually HERS and not someone else’s that she’s featured on. Give me a break with this foolery.

    • Jamon September 18, 2016

      Exactly!!

  7. TAYLOR SWIFTS NUMBER 1 FAN!!!! September 18, 2016

Yeah and how many have been features! 99 percent of Taylor’s have been just her.

    • Caleb September 20, 2016

And 100% of Taylor’s entries have sucked to the high heavens.

  8. glenchimi September 18, 2016

she still got no ‘No.1 single’ on the hot 100 chart ..

which is very diffcult to get.. not everybody got one !

    • Kwinzy September 18, 2016

Yes come thru with that Mariah shade. I live!?

  9. Kwinzy September 18, 2016

For every 10 lackluster songs Nicki releases it’s equalavent to 1 classic song by a legend. Gone are the days when artists spent time & effort in their music. Till this day Nicki hasn’t given us a classic rap album or song. She’s just a trendy rapper who’s ear r**** the industry. Lauryn Hill has 1 fricken album that’s fermented in hip-hop history. What’s a Pink Friday? It’s clear the heaux cares more about the coin than the art.

  10. Annalise September 18, 2016

I love it whenever Ari and Nicki make collabs together. They remind me of Old skool Mariah and Da Brat, and I’d like to see them do a 6 song EP or something.

    • тнє ιиfιиιтє σиє September 18, 2016

The devil is a liar! ?

      • Annalise September 18, 2016

I rebuke you DEMON *throws holy water*

  11. Danzou September 18, 2016

I love her. Keep going nick.

  12. GEEZUS September 18, 2016

She is the star on top of stars. ?

  13. Mel September 18, 2016

When you put out a thousand collaborations, lol,Congrats to Rihanna,2 top ten.

  14. Danzou September 18, 2016

You f*** can hate all u want. You’re talking about her so whatever. F*** it. The truth is that yall are bitter. This isn’t about nicki. This could’ve been any woman in ha spot and yall would still hate. I’m done arguing. Whether I even liked ha or not she’s literally the highest selling female rapper to date and has accumulated over 60 entries on the hot 100. Ha own and thru features. If this was Beyoncé yall would defend ha to the death. Especially yall claiming she don’t write but turn around and Stan for a woman that doesn’t write either. All artists collaborate and get help. Even prince needed the revolution to create purple rain. So shut up you bitter little weenies.

    • Kwinzy September 18, 2016

Lol you act like Nicki’s a saint. Do I need to remind you of all the people she manipulated to achieve success? The fact she had to bring down Lil Kim to raise herself up? Stop trying give homegirl the black and woman free pass cards ’cause any other black female rapper would have carried themselves 10x better if given the chance. You’re so delusional it hurts.?

      • Danzou September 18, 2016

Kwinzy put a f****** sock in it. Lil kim was picking that fight which is why she got did dirty. She didn’t manipulate Wayne into giving ha 5 million. She didn’t manipulate cash money into giving ha six albums. Shut up p****.

    • Kwinzy September 19, 2016

Like virtually unknown Nicki ain’t take shots at Kim back in 2003 her during H.O.O.D.S.T.A.R.$ stint. Like Nicki ain’t throw shade at Kim on the Come-Up DVD, freestyling on a stoop claiming she don’t write her rhymes. Like Nicki ain’t mimic all of Queen Bee’s signature looks, copy her Black Barbie trademark only to disrespect her time & time again on wax. Nicki ain’t s***. She brings complete division & pettiness to female rap and that will be her legacy. F**ck respect!?

  15. Ronnie September 18, 2016

I swear Nicki better not ever score a #1 song or a grammy because her haters will literally have nothing else to argue. Give the woman her props, yeah she’s done a lot of features but its still an impressive accomplishment and if you want keep it real majority of the songs probably only charted BECAUSE of Nicki being on the song and everyone wanting to listen to her verse to either critique or praise.

    • Danzou September 18, 2016

Thank you. They will do anything to discredit ha. Like I said earlier, at this point, I’m done arguing about it with a set of stubborn f*** who refuse to look at the facts and separate it from their opinion. The truth is that this could be any girl and they would still hate. The men in this site hate women because they’re either gay or they want to be a woman. I’m done arguing with that.

      • Kwinzy September 19, 2016

First off, I LOVED Nicki when she first came out. She was the truth. I’m the type of person who digs deep into lyrics. It wasn’t until I uncovered how much she was subliminally coming at Kim until I turned her off. That joint with Keyshia Cole did it for me. Then she tried to get slick on Mary J.’s “Feel Inside”, so glad they axed Nicki and went with Nas. Like the bish used her own friend to take shots… Very sick individual. The whole Cash Money story Kim talked about was never refuted by Nicki till this day. She wanted to be Kim soo much she had to bring her down when Kim never even considered her a threat to begin with. So when you say we hate on any girl who’s successful that’s a straight up lie. We hate Nicki for her character.

    • Kwinzy September 19, 2016

Nicki will NEVER outpeak her most counterfeit era again aka Stink Friday. She’s been called out on her f**ckery from the Lil Kim comparisons, to ghostwriting, her r***** brother etc. Everything’s coming to light now that female rap is much more competitive (Thank God for Remy?.)

  16. Rosie September 18, 2016

Closer will be #1 until November. Massive global smash, Halsey’s next album is going to slay. Love the way she has Borde (remember it?) shook to release ?
