Jay-Z Lambasts The “War on Drugs”: “It’s An Epic Fail”

Jay-Z has called President Richard Nixon‘s war on drugs an epic fail in a new documentary which seeks to expose how African-American males were jailed from crimes their wealthier Caucasian counterparts made millions from.

Watch below…

The project was launched when the co-author of Z’s ‘Decoded’ reached out to the Drug Policy Alliance with hopes that they would be interested in working alongside Revolve Impact, the social impact agency she works with.

Questions posed in Michelle Alexander‘s ‘The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness’ inspired Jay and Ms. Hampton to create the visual above with hopes it would expose the hypocrisy of a judicial system which targeted impoverished people of colour for crimes which were also committed by the wealthy.

I know, but i think that gives him a better understanding than someone who wasn’t involved at all in selling drugs.

Did you even watch the documentary ? If you did let’s discuss what you saw because this is a very serious discussion. To this day nobody can give a reasonable explanation as to why whites sell more drugs than blacks but are more likely to avoid jail.

I don’t need to see the full documentary I actually have a job. But what I will say is, if these big names and powerful influences know these things why are they still just talking about it! I’m not hear for no video and or words. I want to see some ACTION!

Lol this is common knowledge. Read the New Jim Crow, the text does an excellent job explaining how the War on Drugs has done more harm than good.

Did he also lambast his contributions to the drug epidemic when he used to sell them on the streets?

I think his career choices since then speak for themselves. Also, you’re quick to judge drug dealers (who are wrong) but do you stop to think about who is buying them or where said drugs are imported from?

Chile, the comments bringing up his drug-dealing past are about to run rife on the internet. I do applaud Jay for turning his life around though.

What does him selling drugs have to do with the fake war on drugs? Some of you are so surfaced level it’s sad.Ronald Regan flooded the black community with drugs in hopes to fill up the newly built for profit prisons in the 80’s. He did this right after he shut down a majority of the countries mental health facilities, right when the black community started getting their mental health in order. It worked too, the 80’s ruined almost everything the civil rights movement brought about. Instead of having your head up pop stars asses and trying to shade, maybe pick up a book sometimes or Google.
