Despite the absence of a hit single to lead it, Alicia Keys’ new album, ‘Here,’ still managed to make an impressive debut on the Billboard 200.

Fending off new offerings from Hip Hop hitmakers Rae Sremmurd, the star-studded ‘Trolls’ soundtrack, Common, and more, the Keys’ project – featuring tunes ‘Blended Family,’ ‘Holy War,’ and ‘In Common’ – debuted at #2 and marks the singer/songwriter’s 7th top 2 debut (five of those entries debuted at #1).

And, while the album’s standing next week will be interesting to see as ‘Here’ also marks her lowest first week sales to date (of a studio album), we’ll celebrate the accomplishment while we can. Tuck in below to see where everyone else landed on this week’s refreshed TGJ Chart Check:

I love this album. I do not understand the lack of promotion, but then again, she is on RCA and that label does not promote its Black music artists anymore – Usher, Alicia, Brandy, Chris, Fantasia, Monica, Jennifer, etc.

Most of those artists have the same amount of promo as main stream ie
Who has heard anything about Joanne since it dropped?
The problem is the campaign ends when the album comes out

Ppl don’t promote after the album comes out

It’s sad. The older you get in this industry, the less priority is given to your music. It’s always the same damn artists on the charts. Give any of those chart topping songs to an older musician and it wouldn’t get anywhere near the attention it has now. Give any of the songs from an older musician to a young “popular” artist and it would be an instant hit. Such a flawed system the music industry is.

It just seems like they don’t want to promote as much anymore either. Why don’t they release more videos like they used to? Back in the day I could always expect at least 3 or 4 major singles with accompanying videos for these artists. Now we are lucky to get more than one video after the album drops…

I’m glad Alicia Keys is back!
I love her first songs. I bought her two first albums. But recently I don’t deel like buying the whole album. I just get the songs that I like from her on iTunes.
And I love her new make up free movement. It suits her cause she has a great skin. It’ not the case of every woman out there!
    Congratulations Alicia Keys!!!
