Chart Check [Billboard Hot 100]: Drake Nabs 18th Top 10 Single

Published: Wednesday 9th Nov 2016 by Rashad

2016 continues to be kind to Drake.

The Grammy-winning rapper, whose album ‘Views’ not only topped the charts for months but also reigns as the year’s best-seller, is now blessing the Hot 100 with entries from another project due before the year’s end – ‘More Life.’

But, before fans are able to get their hands on the project in full, gems from its tracklist are already making appearances all over the Hot 100.  To date, the most successful of the new releases is undoubtedly ‘Fake Love’:

Billboard reports:

…Drake‘s “Fake Love” vaults 24-10 in its second chart week. Following its first full week of tracking, the song zooms 28-6 on Streaming Songs (17.2 million, up 121 percent), although it slips 5-10 on Digital Song Sales (43,000, down 25 percent). It also crowns the audio subscription services-based On-Demand Songs streaming chart, bolting 8-1 (17.1 million on-demand clicks, up 120 percent) to become his record-breaking fifth No. 1 on the tally (which launched in March 2012); he passes Bieber, with four.

“Fake” is Drake’s 18th Hot 100 top 10, the third-most among rappers. Jay Z leads with 21, followed by Lil Wayne with 19; Ludacris also boasts 18. (Drake breaks a tie with Eminem, who’s earned 17 top 10s.)”

Impressive!  See who else joined Drizzy in this week’s top 10:

It´s ridiculous. With all these “numbers” from him (and a few others) one could believe he is having some type of Michael Jackson monster success. When it is sooooo far from that. Singles charts (and now some album charts with the streaming) are a big joke. Most of the people in the world wouldn´t be able to tell you the title of a Drake song, most not even recognize a single song by him (as his).

But where’s Gaga on the charts?

      • JOHNVIDAL November 10, 2016

Irrelevant to what I said. And yes, Gaga has more recognizable songs, voice and music around the globe. But again, not the point, she´s not making these headlines atm. But Drake is, and it is totally exaggerated by streaming and other things. Hell without streaming he wouldn´t even stayed at #1 on Billboard 200 more than 2 or 3 weeks this year cause Beyonce would have blocked him. He is not having a Michael type of phenomenon to deserve these type of positions and “records”. That´s the pucking point. At least Adele´s chart domination matched her real success and sales, monster success everywhere. This guy is not the case.

I only know One Dance? And Headlines? What are the rest?

      • JOHNVIDAL November 10, 2016

I think I don´t know any. Maybe I´ve listened to several on radio a few times I suppose but I don´t know the titles or recognize they are his 🙂

18? Damn, had no idea he’s amassed that many in the eight years he’s been at it. I’ll go look at what songs they are but I’m sure a good number of them are features. Still, congrats to him.
