Fans of ‘All Hands on Deck’ diva Tinashe were handed quite the surprise this week when she dropped ‘Nightride’ – a 15-song EP released today.  Branded as “two parts of the same project,”  ‘Nightride’ – a perceived predecessor to her long-awaited official sophomore album ‘Joyride’ – is seeing the singer taken on darker tones and subject matter.

Taking to Rolling Stone she revealed:

“The majority of the album was already there, so it wasn’t like that much changed,” she says. “I see [Nightride and Joyride] as two things that are equally the same. I think you can be a combination of things, and that’s what makes people human and complex. They are equally me. I don’t like to be limited to one particular thing so I want to represent that duality and that sense of boundlessness in my art.”

Officially launching her “ERA II,” tuck in below to see the slightly disturbing visual:

This is a perfect follow up to Aquarius in my opinion because it does sound more mature and emotional. I can’t believe how hard Sacrifices scalped me. And Ghetto Boy has to be one of the best love songs that I’ve heard in recent years. The overall vibe of this album fits perfectly with the season as there is a subtle dark tone throughout the songs. I’m really proud of her for having this on all digital platforms including even Tidal. Hopefully the critical acclaim and streaming count convince RCA to finally release Joyride, which according to her Rolling Stone interview, is now set for an “early 2017” release. Unfortunately, it seems obvious that RCA was happy to put out Nightride so that there was more room to add radio-friendly material. They are just gonna keep T locked inside the studio until she gets a pop hit out of Joyride, when in reality, they have a better chance of her securing a hit with her trap/r&b music. Sacrifices for instance is closer to the material (2 On) that got the GP to have interest in her in 2014. They should be pushing those songs, and T always sounds at home and authentic in those songs. Her objective of making club bangers that really slap is effortless.

I’m almost at a loss for words, scratching my head like WTF? I like Aquarius so I had to give night ride a shot, I couldn’t find anything on there that spoke to me…I’m going to listen again. Night ride sounds as if she minused the R&b out of ‘cold sweat’ and ‘bated breath’ and Made it purely alternative. I don’t know, I have to listen again.

On another note, did you hear that note she hit in the home video as a child? Come on young Tinashe! Lmao

I gave the album a preliminary spin at the gym yesterday, and sadly none of the songs did anything for me. I loved her first couple mixtapes. “Reverie”, Ecstasy”, Vulnerable, and “Let me love you” were all my jams. Maybe some of these songs will grow on me if I ever listen to the album again.

I really like this. I’ve listened to the ep. It wasn’t bad. I like the songs but not many stood out to me. I know the Lp will be good so it’s not a big deal.
