Scribbled in history books for some good and not-so-good reasons, 2016 brought with it some of modern music’s most memorable moments.
Now, as the year draws to a close, TGJ is reflecting on 31 moments that rocked – and to some degree shaped – the Urban and Pop musical landscape as we know it.
Next we’ll take a royal walk down memory lane as Queen of Pop Madonna officially became Queen of the Road…
“With the wrap of Madonna’s Rebel Heart Tour on March 20 in Sydney, the pop superstar solidifies her status as the highest-grossing solo touring artist in Billboard Boxscore history. Based on Billboard’s Boxscore archives that stretch back to 1990, her overall concert grosses reached $1.31 billion with the tour’s final show.
The Rebel Heart trek grossed $169.8 million from 1,045,479 tickets sold at 82 performances. Overall, Madonna ranks third on all-time top-grossing Billboard Boxscore list, with only bands The Rolling Stones ($1.84 billion) and U2 ($1.67 billion) ahead of her.”
Her concert grosses listed above do NOT include her critically and commercially acclaimed debut tour outing ‘The Virgin Tour’ North American Tour (which reportedly grossed $11 million) and its follow-up ‘The Who’s That Girl’ World Tour (which reportedly grossed $52 million).
