As speculation mounts surrounding the status of Brandy‘s legal wrangle with her former label, the songbird is opening up about her next release.

Full story below…

Speaking to fans using Instagram’s new live chat feature, the Vocal Bible revealed a number of interesting news nuggets about the follow-up to 2012’s ‘Two Eleven.’

When quizzed by a supporter about the whereabouts of the book she’s been writing, the 37-year-old replied that she’s paused that project and will instead by pouring her everything into her new LP. A record she revealed will be released independently.

Elaborating, she added that the project’s themes and lyrics will surprise folk – even her core base. Because she’s startled by the frankness and rawness of the material herself.

Additional details weren’t divulged, but the singer-actress capped off by saying she was “excited.”

Could new B-Rocka finally be due this year? We certainly hope, as it’s been too long. Entirely too long.

The indie thing has us 50/50, though. When executed correctly (see: Chance The Rapper and, at one point, Macklemore) it can be bliss. There are a graveyard full of projects, however, that tried and failed without the muscle of the major label machine.

Fingers crossed that Ms. Norwood assembles the best team possible to ignite her commercial fire.

    ‘Independent’ worries me too.
I’m hoping B-Rocka can bring the heat with this one, but I’m going to wait and see……

Her nine eleven album was underrated. Let me go and No such thing as too late should’ve been singles.

      • RCR81 January 12, 2017

Completely agree with this! Loved that album and those songs were fire

      • ? + ✈ = ? January 12, 2017

        *2/11?

If her material isn’t good, the album will flop whether it is independent or not. It is no longer possible to promote a crappy album to commercial success.

      • Michael Howard January 12, 2017

        And your name is?

        I’ll wait

        …..

        Still waiting….

        Oh yeah b**** Okay.

Buy a Brandy Album first and then we can talk foreal.

And then maybe she will if not but at very least acknowledge your existance.

But that’s just wishful thinking though. Maybe more so on your part since u actually took the time to even come for her on her own article.

And oh I’m yeah btw what u say your name was again….

Yeah b**** and I’m still waiting.

  2. Terny January 12, 2017

    Who cares? She’s so 2002

    • ? + ✈ = ? January 12, 2017

Your fav got slayed by D*** Clark from the grave on new years. Goodbye!

    • RCR81 January 12, 2017

I like Mariah, but lets be honest, she hasn’t really been relevant for quite a few years now – so play nice!

      • Danny Bey January 12, 2017

The headlines and streaming numbers say otherwise…

    • Daasair January 12, 2017

Obviously u do b**** that’s why u commented on here hating. She’s so 2002 and b**** ur a never was and never will be from birth to death just a waste of existence.

    • Michael Howard January 12, 2017

No b**** she’s 2017, isn’t this post you committed on about her.

  3. Kim.Kesha&Pam January 12, 2017

    No thank you .

  4. Pat January 12, 2017

I think nows perfect for her to be independent. She’ll only do about 30k tops first week either way. May as well make that coin herself.

  5. LmfaoHoe January 12, 2017

Yes Brandy and OMG Sam please do a post on Apple finally putting Aaliyahs Unlitmate album of greatest hits back on Itunes. There are also possibilities her One In a Million and Self-titled album may return soon too on there.

    • RCR81 January 12, 2017

Where do you live? All of those albums are on iTunes (in the UK at least)

    • THE REAL January 12, 2017

In the U.S. her entire discography is missing except Age Aint Nothing But a Number.

      • RCR81 January 12, 2017

Wow…That is shocking, what is up with that?

      • Danny Bey January 12, 2017

        Her family.

      • Sherrell January 13, 2017

Her uncle is what’s up with that.

  6. Cough Cough January 12, 2017

Yes, I’m sooooo here for this. Real music, real saaaangin and a whole lot of slayage.

  7. Chasin Time January 12, 2017

Report on Aaliyah’s album being released to iTunes and Apple Music. It’ was trending last night.

  8. John A. January 12, 2017

Im so excited. Aaliyah on Apple Music. Brandy coming with an independent release. Cmon 2017.

  9. Ciara Stan January 12, 2017

Good for her! She has already experienced major success no matter how long ago it was. She’s a black female R&B singer who’s approaching 40 so not like she’s gonna do big numbers anyway. She might as well do what she wants! Go Brandy!

  10. The Wig Snatcher January 12, 2017

I’m glad to see Brandy taking on her new music independently. Major labels have done R&B music dirty for the past five years. Even Beyoncé isn’t getting much label support despite outselling 96% of the music artists.

  11. Black power January 12, 2017

Yikes… not independent. Just like Beggin & Pleadin… IT WILL FLOP…. she needs that major label promo.. but even then idk if that’ll help she’s lazy. She’ll release two singles one maybe two videos then start acting again

  12. Michael January 12, 2017

Her vocals are so overrated I saw her in 2013 and she was average at best vocally and performance! Plus she’s a c*** of a person I see through the b******* makes me not want to buy into her because she’s a nasty person! Brandy you time was up a long time ago no one cares anymore, if she’s so legendary as people make out, where are the recent recipets of record sales and tour ticket sales! She’s done

    • Credits January 12, 2017

She’s legendary for her contribution to the R&b genre. I don’t think it was ever about sales, although she has been there and done that in the 90’s. listen to how she uses her voice. The receipts are there, you just need to get into her catalogue.

      • Michael January 12, 2017

I like some of her music, I was a fan at one point but she’s just the same old every time and she’s a b**** so I dislike her plus seeing her live, was such a let down she was rubbish

    • Michael Howard January 12, 2017

Yet you actually took up the time to comment about her.
She must be very much worth your time. U remind me of one of a someone who secretly listens to Britney Spears, but shame her in public. You see now u have all the makings of a closeted fan.

      • Michael January 12, 2017

I f****** LOVE Britney I will scream it from the roof she is the definition of an icon! It’s weird because it’s kind of like I am a fan of her music but she just has a nasty attitude I can see right through her and she thinks she’s the best, ain’t nobody checking for her though. Stick to singing to songs people know because it’s a waste of her own time and money

    • Michael Howard January 12, 2017

Don’t u have a hobby or a job or something maybe…. But I do appreciate u aidding in keeping my fav popping.

  13. Danzou January 12, 2017

She might as well. Just give us music brandy sales are a little less credible these days. This year should bring it musically but from artists that deserve a little more shine. All the big names dropped last year except for Nicki. Amber streeter, kehlani, tink, Chris Brown(even though his singles be trash generic) should give us some good r and b as well. Trey Songz should release something as well. June’s Diary should bring it as well. There’s no need to pussyfoot around. I hate when artists do that.

    • Michael Howard January 12, 2017

I’m confused are u a fan or a hater…. But something tells me your just as confused as I am.

      • Danzou January 12, 2017

How would I be a hater? I love brandy that’s my baby.

  14. truthteller January 12, 2017

To be fair, I doubt a major label would sign her (or at least offer her a decent deal) but I hope this does well for her. She does need to learn though when to reign it in on social media and in interviews. Not everything needs to be addressed

  15. LR January 12, 2017

The Independent route isn’t so bad if she could secure some sponsors and work her ass off for the record to be heard by visiting radio stations and performing at their shows. If she works hard like her younger days, then I’ll purchase. It I’m not going to spend my money on some album that she drops and just expects fans to buy. Better walk those red carpets, perform her songs, and get in the fashion magazines.

  16. Rushonjones January 12, 2017

If Brandy books 50k or more first week, It’s a f****** slay. I’m proud of her for taking full control of her career. Sis has the coin, F*** a label. R&B doesn’t sell like that anyways.

  17. Theman January 12, 2017

Mariah is always relevant. Every season she makes a ton of cash. She was number one on iTunes/Spotify just about a month ago. She’s toured in arenas/stadiums recently. And she’s sold 320k with catalogue music only. You were saying what about relevance? GTFOH!! Meanwhile, ‘WBT’ just got certified for being 3x platinum..

  18. 4everBrandy_Ci January 12, 2017

It’s not a bad thing she’s going independent because FIRST of all let’s get a few things straight. Brandy is one of the many successful artists of her generation. Despite it’s a new generation and ignorant people want to shade and act salty towards her. Brandy will always create authentic and QUALITY records. The record business needs a FRESH start when it boils down to artists in general. Brandy should’ve had “2/11” to be a huge success due to her ability to create FRESH material without it being lackluster. The issue is these record labels right now don’t know what the hell to do with these artists. People want to blame the artist for not getting where they suppose to be but these record labels aren’t promoting and financially stable. I think Brandy will be alright considering she’s a veteran for her accomplishments. A major record label would be nice but look at the past results. If she decides to sign a major label again it has to be the RIGHT one for her. I’m just ready for new and FRESH material from my Queen. I’m so glad she’s getting herself out there and staying consistent. #SlayQueen #VocalBible #STARZ

  19. Brandy keeps some TGJ posters mad which is why they down vote any positive comment about her January 12, 2017

I’m glad she’s taking this route. Her last three albums have been released on different labels, so label-hopping hasn’t done her any favors. I can’t wait for the music.

  20. Smoove Jones January 12, 2017

This could work for her. It’s working for Mya. She recently nabbed a grammy nomination for her indie project/album Smoove Jones for Best R&B Album.

  21. Gee January 12, 2017

Hopefully she now focus on creating a great album and live the bird beef alone. She needs to work with Timbaland again as well as Mike City.

  22. RoyalKev January 12, 2017

I personally think indie is the way to go for most established acts! Brandy will be able to fund her own era and continually promote the singles that spark interest from casual listeners (as well as her fan base, of course) after the album is received by the public! A strong team can really help make wise and effective choices with the budget for this project! I’m excited to hear this new material that will shock her core! Brandy’s full of surprises and always delivers musically! Come through B-rocka!

    • 4everBrandy_Ci January 12, 2017

We KNOW Brandy is capable of achieving more success! She’s on the consistency and I’m excited for her because she always wants the fans to stay connected with her. She will deliver with this new material. It’s funny how some of the general public don’t give her credit where it’s due. But it’s okay because Brandy is and will forever be one of the successful established artists! We just have to be positive and support her! I know she’s going to BRING the heat!!!!!! #SlayQueen #VocalBible #STARZ

      • RoyalKev January 13, 2017

Brandy doesn’t get the credit she deserves at all (not when you look at her contribution and see the many, many artists that use her sound today)! I often hear Brandy’s runs and breezy agility in phrasing, harmonies and more from artists that followed behind her! It’s cool, not getting recognition for things still doesn’t define Brandy! I’m content knowing that Brandy was in a lane that set her a part! I’m also not here for people that tire themselves out by attempting to rewrite history and flop women’s careers simply because they want their favs to be the only one standing tall in a sea of women successful in their own right! It’s silly! Musically, Brandy will always be capable of making music that touch folks and may possibly even attain a R&B hit in this crazy decade! One thing I can say is that Brandy will always have my support! Brandy delivers … consistently!

  23. Theman January 12, 2017

But going indie doesn’t maximize her ability to have the album reach the masses. She simply needs the right records & promo..

  24. Martaevia La’wayne January 13, 2017

I don’t care about sales or any of that. I think the real fans will agree. Its just all about getting what we want from brandy and enjoying it. We all know records don’t sell like that used to. I can’t wait though!
