Chrisette Michele Pens Open Letter Ahead Of Trump Inauguration Performance

Published: Thursday 19th Jan 2017 by Sam

Chrisette Michele set social media on fire yesterday when it was revealed that she will be taking to the stage to perform at Donald Trump‘s inauguration.

The US president elect remains a divisive figure thanks to his controversial views on a number of topics – especially his take on minorities and immigrants.

Said policies have seen Trump shunned by most of Hollywood, which has historically been a largely liberal institution.

It’s left many wondering who’ll serve as the entertainment at tomorrow’s inauguration ceremony.

With Michele officially in the mix, she seems to have bowed to pressure to explain her decision.

Writing on her official site, she has issued an open letter on the matter.

See what she had to say below…

For Michele, the gig is apparently about being a “bridge” and “representing” her people.

Her words…

My heart is broken for our country, for the hopes of our children, for the fights of those who came before us.

I cry at the thought that Black History, American History might be in vain.

This country has had great moments. God has shined His light upon us.

Today, I hope that Great Moments begin in peaceful & progressive conversation. I am willing to be a bridge. I don’t mind “These Stones”, if they allow me to be a voice for the voiceless.

I am here.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Our lives begin to end, the day we become silent about what matters,”.

I am here, representing you, because this is what matters.”

– Chrisette Michele

Everyone should be entitled to do as they please, no matter how irrational.

That said, all those words she chopped and screwed essentially translated into a big ball of nothing. Like, what was she even trying to say?

In any case, we it’ll be very interesting to see what the exposure does for her moving forward. Very interesting.

Your thoughts?

      Thanks

      • Danzou January 19, 2017

Her tone is always changing. Such a smooth track. It reminds me of “this must be love” by her. Always fresh, her music.

  4. MUSICHEAD January 19, 2017

I would boycott Cassette Michelle’s dumb a** but you can’t boycott something that’s already out of business smh.

    • Kwinzy January 19, 2017

Oh no not “Cassette” Michele. *dies*?

  5. Human Cyborg January 19, 2017

    Is that Mariah or Beyonce?

    • The Wig Snatcher January 19, 2017

Neither has ever worn wigs so cheaply.

      • Human Cyborg January 19, 2017

I don’t care about her hair. I’m talking about what she looks like.

  6. The Wig Snatcher January 19, 2017

She is the bridge that collapsed. Other than that, what drug did she smoke to write that? That letter makes no sense.

  7. #ispeakfacts January 19, 2017

? Girl just say you performing bcuz of the money not that you are bridging anything! I am so danm tired of these black ppl artists, comedians, althletes using black ppl as a whole to justify their actions all to just benefit from their own personal gain and agenda! Stop the fkn coonery! Chrisete Michelle YOU ARE NOT REPRESENTING ALL BLACK PEOPLE! YOU ARE REPRESENTING YOURSELF! If you have been paying any attention his cabinet picks and the ppl he has nominated to work in his administration gives zero f**** about minority’s, women, lgbtq, and the poor! Over 50 democrats is boycotting his inauguration! There’s a reason why they are boycotting! What’s even sad is you have blacks like you who will do anything for a piece of change and sell their soul in the process! Do you see any white celebritys or other groups meeting or performing for Donald Trump???? No! U will not be performing for a diverse crowd u will be performing for a group of white folks who share Donald Trumps beliefs! That my sista is not bridging a gap!

    • Sterling Infinity January 19, 2017

Sadly every black person who has gone to trump towers to have a “peaceful conversation” are thirsty af.

    • A&R January 19, 2017

    • THE REAL January 19, 2017

Build That’s Bridge B**** & Climb Tf Over It & Never Come Back ??

  9. ? January 19, 2017

    She’s delusional ?

  10. Paulo January 19, 2017

I wouldn’t do it if I were in her shoes but to dismiss what she says as ‘ball of nothing’ is unfair and uncalled for. she does make a point (which I don’t agree with) of trying to be a representation of Blackness since probably the only Black person close to this administration will be Omarosa of all people. can’t we actually pinpoint WHY Chrisette is messing up instead of simply attacking her out of spite?

    • Paulo January 19, 2017

I mean, have a look at #ispeakfacts comment, just read tf outta her without dismissing her right to defend herself.

    • A&R January 19, 2017

Read above! The president and his cabinet do not care about her or people who looks like her… lol and to think that singing at his inauguration will effect change is foolish. She’s there for entertainment… not to discuss policy changes lol it’s almost a joke to read these stupid explanations. Dude rd!

  11. Danzou January 19, 2017

She looks like a dollar store remy MA in that pic

  12. SMH January 19, 2017

she could have kept that long winded “explanation”, because she didn’t really say anything.

  13. Fancy BISH January 19, 2017

You really could have kept that, Chrissy lol…cause the reality is you will be singing for a man who probably has never heard of you, never cared to listen to you, and probably will have to be reminded that it IS you before he signals for security to escort you out lol…the Trump supporters/heffas/Beckys are trying to marginalize BEYONCE, a superstar, household name and businesswoman worth hundreds of millions of dollars…they are trying to marginalize one of OUR shining stars! So do you really think they care about you?

  14. lovely January 19, 2017

What if a celebrity told you not to go to work? She is a singer. She has been contracted out to sing. Let her work. I bet most of you are skinning/grinning at your job in order to keep bills paid and the fridge full. Let her work. What if someone told all Jehovah Witnesses and other people who do not believe in the celebration of Christmas/Holiday to reject their Christmas/Holiday bonus? At least Chrisette does not have a history of talking against her culture. More important, how many of you are still supporting Steve Harvey and Kanye? Chrisette, do not be another Mary J. Blige and turn down millions for singing about chicken and giving that paycheck to Steve Tyler when we know we love fried chicken. And please do not sing teary-eyed and grateful. Sing a jam and get down.

    • A&R January 19, 2017

Would you work at a place that openly supports actions that goes against your moral and spiritual beliefs? Remember, this woman is not in *need* she can afford to pass up a job that compromises her personal values… stop it with this bu s***.

      • lovely January 19, 2017

I work in Corporate America. Ain’t no telling what these mofos doing and if I found out that they did not support my culture, I would not quit. I ain’t working to make friends. I’m working to pay my bills and survive. That’s why they call it work. Chrisette aint sitting at their dinner table trying to be Barron’s godmother.

  15. Stephy January 19, 2017

She gets on my damn nerves. I could hear her speaking in that lil baby voice while reading that letter. I stopped liking her back when she was on R&B: Has Beens. Something about her screams “FAKE & PHONY”. She got that type of personality where you just wanna slap her for no damn reason. Ion know why I even clicked on this article. Most of her fans are people that despise Trump and the Republican party. After this performance, her already dead career will be put in the grave…

    • A&R January 19, 2017

Lol yo, you hit it on the nail. Things went south for her after R&B Divas. Her personality did scream… don’t fool with or trust me.

  16. JustCoastWitHa January 19, 2017

If Beyoncé said this, yall would be so here for it. -_-

    • Amerikkka’s Most Wanted ~ Tyler January 19, 2017

Beyonce would never do some s*** like this. So stop it with all of the hypothetical situations .

      • Danzou January 19, 2017

he can be as hypothetical as he likes its the truth.

  17. Cough Cough January 19, 2017

I honestly want to know what the social media warriors want black folks to do… seriously. Sit online getting some type of ridiculous self satisfaction by joining in with people (losers) on twitter/fb/IG alleged “draggings” while the real world goes about. Or try and insert themselves into the actual real world scenario of what’s going on. I don’t know what any of their (Steve, MLK3, Chrisette) intentions are but neither does anyone else. People are so caught up thinking cyber reality is actual reality that when they log off and go back to their broke ass lives and brag to their people “yeah we dragged her for filth online and blah. Blah blah” like it was an actual roast with the person there listening to their rants. If you’re not part of the solution or have an alternate suggestion then I don’t see your purpose. At least she’s pretending to have a purpose, and although I’d not do this myself, I see her rational and respect it.

  18. Jamie January 19, 2017

Let them fukkkkk up her money…all that world, children shyyttt will be out the window. I ain’t mad though. Get ya coins.

  19. Tim Brown January 19, 2017

This is not irrational. I am tired of these sites with their own bias agenda….smh

  20. JazSullivan January 19, 2017

Why so much outrage? Who even paid attention to her prior to this??

  21. Casual January 19, 2017

She contracted to perform at the inauguration, and I’m glad she’s standing firm. You can cry like D.L. Hughley and throw hissy fits all you want, but Donald Trump will be president tomorrow. This is almost as bad as the foolishness surrounding Steve Harvey’s meeting with Trump, as if it made sense not to meet with the man who will hold the most powerful position on Earth for at least four years.

  22. Shaquiiii January 20, 2017

In that case, why not donate your $750,000 pay packet to a worthy cause?

  23. Now time yca ritish wauyz January 23, 2017
