Published: Friday 6th Jan 2017 by Sam

Fifth Harmony‘s future as a four-piece is looking promising following news that the quad have re-signed with Epic Records.

At the point Camila Cabello exited, it was revealed that the group had fulfilled certain obligations with the Sony imprint. A reality which meant their relationship with themoving forward hinged on whether LA Reid and co wanted to exercise their legal right to “pick up their option.”

Well, it has now been confirmed that that’s what has indeed happened.

Speaking to Billboard, reps for the group announced the news – but didn’t elaborate.

The most interesting tea, however, came courtesy of a “source” close to the situation.

Per the report, artists like 5H who were signed by way of reality shows are often subject to dismal deals.

Yet, bolstered by notable success – which includes 7 million U.S. digital downloads, 1.6 billion on-demand streams, and two top five Billboard Hot 100 hits, the group apparently had better leverage in negotiations this go round.

Described as a “win-win” situation, the source revealed that the ladies have won ownership of their trademark back and are readying an album for 2017. The unnamed individual added:

“They’re in a position to have more creative involvement and really direct where they want their music to go. They’re a huge name on the Epic roster so it makes sense to keep them there and work on another hit album. While, at the same time it benefits the girls to stay as well and really own the direction they’re going in rather than litigate themselves out of a deal.”

As for the perceived awkwardness attached to 5H and Cabello being on the same label, working on new music, at the same time, there’s apparently nothing to worry about. Music attorney Debra White said of that situation:

“It proves that Epic/Syco is really believing in the brand, and they don’t give a sh*t if it’s Fourth or Fifth Harmony. They’re going to find amazing songs and make a go of it.”

The whole episode feels like a titillating episode of ‘Sunset Beach.’ What’ll happen next? Stay tuned!
