Prince Estate Near Streaming Deal Ahead Of Planned Grammy Tribute By Rihanna, Bruno Mars, & The Weeknd

The 2017 Grammys are a mere month away and word on the curb is that producers are planning an all-out, all-star tribute to Pop superstar Prince.

Ahead of the spectacle, the late singer’s estate are reported to be close to finalising a major streaming deal that’ll tie-in with the big night.

According to Billboard, the Purple one’s team are on the cusp of locking in an agreement with Universal Music Publishing that will see his “greatest hits” available on platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music.

Presently, said material is only available in an on-demand capacity via Jay Z’s TIDAL; a reality that comes with its own complexities (and legalities).

As reported back in November, Universal won the bid for the publishing rights to Prince’s catalogue and vowed to respectfully exploit it to its full potential. It would appear this is part of that plan.

And what better occasion than music’s biggest calendar night to lift the lid on things?

Per Billboard, producers have approached Rihanna, Bruno Mars, and The Weeknd to honor the star – who died as a result of an overdose on April 21st last year.

The present plan is to have a commercial touting the availability of the music online immediately after.

Bruno aside, some of those names tapped to tribute are…unfortunate.

That said, the synchronisation aspect sounds cool, as does the wider-spread availability of Prince’s music.

The 2017 Grammys airs February 12th; it’ll be intriguing to see which parts of this come to fruition.
