Before Trey Songz could even wrap official promotion on his sixth official era, 2014’s ‘Trigga,’ fans had already begun calling for its official follow-up. In February 2015, the Grammy-nominated crooner whet appetites by not only announcing the album’s title, ‘Tremaine,’ but also promising its content would be a venture away from his standard fare of raunch into more romantic subject matter.
“…in R&B and hip hop, I feel like it’s easy to make women feel sexy and be a bad bitch, but I feel like the Tremaine album will kind of put women on the pedestal again and show that it’s cool to love, it’s cool to want to be romantic, and it’s cool to want to be in a relationship.” (Source)
Well, it appears the ‘Heart Attack’ hitmaker has had a change of heart since then. For, upon its unique unveiling via a parodic VH1 reality dating show – ‘Tremaine the Playboy’ – the album’s weekly single releases have been nothing but typical Trey: bleating about boning bad b-tches, bottles in the club, and neighing over trap beats.
Yet, while ‘Tremaine’ remains thematically in line with its predecessors, there is one keen difference:
‘Tremaine’ is Songz’ first album to date to be released without a Hot 100-charting single to precede it.
The tunes released from the set to date – ‘Nobody Else But You,’ ‘Animal,’ ‘Playboy,’ ‘Song Goes Off,’ and ‘She Lovin It’ – have not been individually or collectively getting much love from the streaming or sales front. Granted, this could be attributed to the lack of full on promotion afforded the tunes (unlike the songs from his previous efforts), but that still isn’t the most promising sign of interest in the project.
On the upside, ‘Tremaine’ presently boasts #2 placement on digital sales charts less than 24 hours after its release. Only Drake‘s blockbuster selling new release, ‘More Life,’ keeps it from the top spot.
Are you one of the many purchasing Trey’s latest effort to keep it afloat on sales charts? If not, after streaming the set in full by clicking here, do you intend to join the number? Tell us:
won’t buy it but im definitely streaming.
it’s good so far. She Loving It is on repeat. that instrumental is BAD. 1×1 is a cute pop crossover ish.
It’s a good album
This comment made me look up 1×1 on youtube. It’s a bop for sure. That should be the single out now.
Didn’t buy it. I got it through other means and it’s his typical f**k boy Music. Yawn.
Lmao
no thank you. Cant stand him or his music. His attitude is horrible. I stop spending my coins on artist who I cant connect with me.
Hes trash
That’s something he and HOnika have in common.
Hell no! It’s literally the same type of music he been putting out. He could’ve sold million if he released a porno as a ‘visual album’ with music as like a ‘soundtrack’. I’m just saying, if all you’re going to do is talk about your d*** and expertise in s** you might as well show us what you can do!
Absolutely not. I’d be fine if I never heard his name for the rest of my life, along with jason derulo and pitbull.
Yea it’s a NO for me…
No
30k tops. Hes the old guy n the game now doin the same old thing
“Old guy in the game” lol. He’s only 32 tho!
Right! People kill me talking about old!! Is everyone in the industry supposed to be 22 forever. I can’t. I still don’t like him, but he’s FAR FROM OLD!
Nope! Same sound no growth! I only like the first single the album put me to sleep. He’s still cocky and relying on his looks and I see it’s ending his career
Trey has really matured and I definitely like him more now than I did 5 years ago. I have to admit that I don’t buy music anymore. Streaming is the way to go and I think most consumers feel the same way. Trey knows it’s all about the singles and that will be his focus vs album sales/streams.
I love Trey but I’m streaming it ! lol it’s a good album. I’ve never heard a bad album from him but Ready & Trey Day are still my favorites from him.
I’d rather but 25.
Not this time around. And I’ve been faithfully buying his every album since 2009 but his music is getting more wack with each release.
You’re cute. You can definitely get it ?
Where is the “We should be making love” Trey gone 🙁
I can’t @ people not giving Usher the time of the day yet this goat fool going all the way to #2 on the charts
^no shade but that Usher album was trash so that’s on him. This Trey songs album is decent but like others says it’s no artistic growth.
No! He is a b**** at his best and a cheap attention seeking w****.
He should do some remix on the song or part2
