Preview: ‘WayBack’ – The First Single from TLC’s Last Album

Published: Friday 10th Mar 2017 by Rashad

‘Unpretty’ pair TLC may have slammed with ugly accusations of running with fans’ kickstarter donations provided to fund their last album, but now they’re hoping a listen at one of its finished products will help clear their name (and the air).

Teaming with FOX’s hit series, ‘Star,’ the group’s lead singer T-Boz took to Twitter earlier this week to excite followers with the announcement there’d be new music on display during this week’s episode.  When quizzed on if the tune – titled ‘Way Back’ – would be the kick off to the June 2017-due project, T responded:

Did you miss it?  If so, listen inside:

I’m not impressed but I wasn’t a fan of TLC in the beginning I purchased FanMail due to Left Eyes death…?

    • Truth(yaaasss honey) April 5, 2017

      sl-LUT!

  5. Notafanjustsaying March 10, 2017

I love it. It’s mature. Got that classic tlc sound. Not too trendy but current

  6. JanStan March 10, 2017

TLC is the greatest girl group of all time. I was obsessed to the gods with them in the 90s. The trifecta of the Janet. era, arrival of TLC, and Toni Braxton’s Secrets slayed my weave clean off. Miss those days!!!

    • Jay March 10, 2017

      Yes they are

  7. Merril Owns March 10, 2017

I love it! This s*** jammin!

  8. SMH March 10, 2017

TLC are still the GOATs. Can’t wait for the album.

  9. Drakonce March 10, 2017

Yet again they fail to release a song with left eye rapping.

    • PeaceMaker March 10, 2017

      Thats cuz she dead duh!

    • MusicLife March 10, 2017

If you were a real fan you would realize there is t any u heard raps left they have rights to only the family has them is what I heard. All others they had used for their ‘3D’ album

    • Aaron March 10, 2017

People act as if Left Eye was on every TLC song. She wasn’t on the majority of their hits. Im not trying to take anything away from left eye but it’s the truth

      • Roc March 12, 2017

Um, yes she was. Left Eye is only not on 4 hits , Baby Baby Baby, RLS, Creep and Unpretty.

  10. MusicLife March 10, 2017

Why is there voices on the video so annoying.

Chorus seems weak a sense hell and it’s not as catchy as their 90s music.

  11. tROSE March 10, 2017

    yes TLC!

  12. Walker March 10, 2017

This sounds like a weak choice for a first single. They need something a little more hard hitting. This sounds like something for the Tom Joyner Morning Show.

  13. ka March 10, 2017

I remember this part of STAR, I did even notice the song. It sound very classic TLC I wish it was a bit harder sound not trend in all it was ok I think I was distracted by Paris Jackson she is so white , the character Star is more believable to be MJ daughter a little tint. Still love MJ regardless to the point song is a nice reemerge for TLC!

  14. Juan1n4mi110n March 10, 2017

I’m not really impressed , sounds dated… there’s no real progression in the music. But I’m here for the return, just hope they don’t tarnish their legacy…

  15. brazio March 10, 2017

I like it…reminds me of the song SMILE…they have with J.Cole

  16. Credits March 10, 2017

I heard the song, thinking it was something old from 3D that I never listened to. You can immediately pick out T-boz’s vocals. Her voice is that distinctive. I paused the scene and replayed it.

  17. RoyalKev March 10, 2017

Nice! I was hoping for something a little bit sexier! T-Boz vocals (and actually Chilli’s as well) has immediately put me in that frame of mind, but as I listened closer to the lyrics, I realized it the music wasn’t as seductive as it appears! This single is a starter, but it’s a clear reminder of what TLC is capable of! They can still win with their sound, given the right song!

  18. SoldierOfLove March 10, 2017

I actually think i Love this! I wish these people would shut the fu(k up so I could enjoy it! Lol it grooves!

  19. Trumpland March 10, 2017

It’s too retro, save that for the album. The gp isn’t checking for this sound. Even kiss it better flopped.Get with the times.

  20. Mark111 /.\ March 10, 2017

I like it, it’s very TLC. I’m ready for this album! Their voices always balanced out very well together. I am hoping to hear Left Eye, at least have her voice sampled on a beat or something. I really hoping they slice in her interviews like they did on Fan Mail. Matter of fact, the album should be called FanMail 2 or maybe just TLC.

  21. Tim Brown March 11, 2017

    It’s dated *toni braxton voice*

  22. Dossome March 11, 2017

The production kinda reminds me of Mariah’s Dedicated…i love it

  23. Leon March 11, 2017

It isn’t confirmed to be the first single, but it will be one of the albums singles.

  24. Justafan March 11, 2017

Sounds like a cheap production. They need another No Scrubs typa cut

  25. eric March 11, 2017

I’m a fan, but this follows the very same style and rhythm as what’s on the 3D album. While I don’t dislike 3D, I don’t think it’s memorable either. If they’re going to mimic or repeat sounds from earlier in their career, why not go “way back” to the CrazySexyCool album and make it a celebration of their history and their finest moments together?

  26. Fake loooove March 11, 2017

Goes to show that can’t afford top song writers. This is garbage. And I like TLC.?

  27. ItsWNow at uyoufr best game way tuesidnz March 12, 2017

This will be their last album as a group or what nice song

  28. Cee May 27, 2017

This is song is fire!! It is vintage TLC with meaningful and clevor lyrics and a hook with actual harmonies. Whoever says that the song is dated or too retro must not like Bruno Mars because that is his claim to fame. His sound is straight 80s and 90s there is nothing new about it.

So if people can take Bruno stealing from the 90s, why dog TLC for going back to their roots.

They are not trying to keep up with the times, this song is for their true fans. It is a re connection song. They are talking to them and saying “We go way back”. It is for them, not for the younger audience. I Love it!
