Ed Sheeran made an impressive chart debut with his latest album ‘÷’ as expected in the U.S., but his record breaking slayage extends to home soil too.
Lifted by ‘Shape Of You,’ the set has become the fastest-selling album in the U.K. by a male artist ever, shifting more than the fastest album of 2016, David Bowie‘s ‘Blackstar.’
The Brit singer’s third studio effort clocks in with a triumphant 672,000 units in its first week. An extension of his dominance can also be seen in the fact that all 16 tracks of his March 3rd release have made it to the top 20.
Becoming the third fastest seller ever, only Adele‘s ‘25‘ (800,000) and Oasis ‘Be Here Now‘ (696,000) raked in higher first week totals in the U.K.
To celebrate his colossal success, the singer headed to the Breakfast Club to enjoy drinks and a lackadaisical conversation with DJ Envy and Charlamagne.
Peep the interview below…
There the superstar revealed ‘Shape’ was originally written for Rihanna, his love for Beyonce and Nicki Minaj, and even rapped Minaj’s monster verse.
Ed makes for a great artist – and interviewee. Congrats on all his success.
