‘Sweet Thing’ singer Chaka Khan left audiences sour after her performance at this year’s Jazz in the Gardens.
Hosted annually in Florida, the festival draws some of R&B’s biggest names and this year – with a lineup that featured the likes of Anita Baker, Fantasia, Smokey Robinson, and more – was no exception. Unfortunately, Khan, being one of this year’s more anticipated acts, left fans upset, shocked and concerned after her performance over the weekend featured moments of her forgetting the words to her classic hits, seeming disinterested, relying on background singers to sing her lead vocals, dancing bizarrely, and more.

Some local reports indicate the songstress was not feeling well and was hospitalized shortly after the performance. As fans of Miss Khan we’re certainly hoping that’s all there is to this story and nothing more.

Chaka Khan has always been hit or miss, even in her early years. Wonder why you never see many youtube videos of her performing live? Get over it.
I do not think it is fair to conclude she was high based on these videos. Anything could have been going on that caused to be off step with her delivery. I love Chaka and her music and I hope she pulls it together. One thing that has always been with her during her whole career is hit or miss performances (same goes for Mary J). Either Chaka is putting on the best show ever or she is putting on a bad show. There is no in between with Chaka.
Sorry guys, Chaka Khan is not a great live performer. Rufus use to have to hold her down, then Prince use to hold her down. Is there an award show performance where Chaka blew the roof? Nope. I do not deny that she has the pipes, but she is just not a live performer. Now you add that to age and perhaps, some pill-popping, and this is what you get. The crowd should’ve just sung along when she pointed the mic and been happy.
Please only speak on things you know. You are not qualified to say things like “Chaka Khan is not a live performer”. That simply is not true. Here is proof:

Yolanda yes she has always been hit or miss. There is no in between with Chaka. You may have meant that but you did not write that in your original comment which is why I interpreted it literally…that “Chaka Khan is not a live performer”. Sorry for the confusion. I worked with Ms. Khan for 7 years and I can honestly say she is a great live performer. I don’t know about this particular gig but believe me, I’ve seen a ton of phenomenal, amazing live performances.
She probably didn’t get her Money and was over it
Even singing celebrities have an off moment. She still is and will always be Chaka Khan, the one and only.
I was waiting to really enjoy Chaka Khan performance. After hearing what was wrong with her, I wish her well and a speedy recovery. Next time someone should speak up and let people know when she is not feeling well. I would love to see her perform again.
Chaka is a vocal beast but she’s a cokehead and hella weird. so… po’thang. hope she gets better.
