Retro Rewind: Billboard Hot 100 This Week in 2010 #TBT

Published: Thursday 29th Mar 2018 by Rashad

Readers of That Grape Juice know what avid music lovers we are – especially of hits past.

So, as our retrospective features ‘From the Vault’ and ‘TGJ Replay’  allow us the chance to re-spin the gems and jams of yesterday of one artist, our newest feature Chart Rewind – a variation of our current Retro Rewind assay – accedes salutes to an entire era of music history.

In honor of her 32nd birthday (March 28), this week we’ll call on Lady Gaga‘s 2010 megahit ‘Telephone.’ Originally penned for and later passed on by Britney Spears, Gaga eventually took the reins on the Darkchild-produced tune and consulted industry gal pal/‘Video Phone’ co-star Beyonce to support.  The result?  Absolute slayage.

With a fierce short music film to assist, the song debuted in the top 30 in early December 2009.  By March 2010, it was already in the top 10 (where it peaked at #3 this week that year).  Becoming Gaga’s sixth consecutive top 10 hit and Beyonce’s 14th as a solo artist, the tune would go on to nab a Grammy nod and sell an impressive 3.5 million copies in the United States alone.

how is perfect still in the top 5?? I am sick of that song, I don’t see it being spinned a lot on spotify. Is he really selling that means singles of this song?? Is his label paying radio to spin it every second?

reminder that the power of bey and gaga couldn’t unseat rih

    • Jasmine March 29, 2018

It’s still a much more iconic and memorable moment than rude boy. It’s cute song but telephone is a true MOMENT and supreme slayage

      • ??? March 29, 2018

lmao gurl bye, nobody remembers gaga helping roach get a hit. but Rude Boy is in the BILLBOARD HISTORY BOOKS, never to be forgotten lmfaoooo

      • Jasmine March 29, 2018

Rude boy is not in the history books ?? it’s in the chart history tho and it fades in to the rest of her McSingles.. telephone is a much more epic moment than rude boy. Sorry the video slays the costume slays and Rihanna is the stiffest Carribbean dancing girl EVER. Did she have her baby yet or no? She’s huge now yikes

    • JOHNVIDAL March 29, 2018

Everything Gaga did during those years is more iconic and bigger than anything Rihanna ever. Not to mention she contributed to it, same way she does now with her different sounds she does now. The other one does nothing and industry and people know that. Peace.

i really wish you new kweens would stop using old lingo. FIERCE now refers to something that is tacky, terrible & off base. STOP using it in the way Tyra Banks’ late @ss still does.

    • Jasmine March 29, 2018

You’re obviously a late gay, fierce has been used both ways since the origins of the word.. it can go both ways, Tyra didn’t make it good. You tried it

      • Jasmine March 29, 2018

Know your history before you try and school someone. If you think fierce (negative) is the “new way” post Tyra, girl you need to go back to gay school and shoot your teachers like you shoot up with your G***** bottom buddies’

      • Jasmine March 29, 2018

Stop picking on Brent Suicide Trash Blonde!. Why are you on here everyday bullying people? First you steal my user name. Second you write racist comments over and over like a retarded redneck. Third, nobody likes you troll b!!tch. Everyone knows that it is you Suicide. You constantly out yourself as a gay white male with your gay rhetoric and gay emojis. Get lost trash!

lmao 8 years ago that rihanna reign had the top spot on lock….and roach was still desperate piggybacking off other folks’ hits. 8 years later, things havent changed, riri is still hitting the top spot, and roach is still piggybacking off other folks’ hits lmfaooooooooooooo

    • Jasmine March 29, 2018

Did Rihanna have her baby yet or is she just fat now? You better remember THIS Rihanna cause now she looks like Miss Piggy.

  5. JOHNVIDAL March 29, 2018

Damn it the list from 2010 was not too good, but the one now is terrible with just no song on the horizon to at least unseat that also basic Drake song. I mean what is this music landscape? Pshit is dead.

  6. Carlitos March 29, 2018

Our top 10 is so depressing anymore 🙁

  7. Jkay March 29, 2018

Supersonic deathhhh & Riri, the “feature artist” & her lonesome in her “”flop era” blocking Caca & Boobjobce from that top spot ????

  8. Francis March 29, 2018

‘Telephone’ is pop perfection (everything about ‘The Fame Monster’ is iconic) and the video continues to give me life! Bey redeemed herself after that ‘Video Phone’ mess (it truly is the worst song from that era).

Regarding ‘Rude Boy’, that one saved the ‘Rated R’ era and it’s a pity, because that album is gorgeous. People need to star hearing the whole body of work, not just the singles. I still play ‘The Last Song’, ‘Fire Bomb’ and ‘Cold Case Love’, those songs are amazing!

This blog is ridiculous. Promote gaga like if she was relevant nowadays
