As sloppy roll-outs go, few can rival Ashanti‘s “new” single ‘Say Less.’
Released last November, the track’s video arrived six months later in April.
And now, with June in reaching distance, she’s finally pounding the promo pavements in a bid to ignite the song on the charts.
Stopping by FOX‘s Good Day LA with a duo of dancers, the former first lady of the INC served up the cut’s first live performance.

It baffles beyond belief how certain acts just don’t get “it.”
On what planet do such huge gaps between every pivotal moment of a roll out make any sense?
Any and all buzz seems to have evaporated, not just for the song but whatever album she’s cooking up. And understandably. Single campaigns aren’t activated over seven months.
As for the performance? Meh.
If she’s really adamant about this new LP, then she ought to up her viva and get her ish in order. From the music, to her label, to the campaign, to the live showings. Everything needs Holy Ghost intervention.
We keep saying this, but indie just ain’t for everyone.

I think she looks and sounds great. The problem here is the music. The song is too immature for a woman her age. It comes off like somebody’s auntie in the club trying be young instead of auntie getting her grown and sexxy music on.

I think Ashanti is gorgeous. I’m glad she is going the independent route and at this point singing is a hobby she just killing time due to boredom.

I liked the song and the performance, but I thought the styling was off. Those pants were really unflattering on her.
I admire this woman’s hustle, but she has to be more organized and strategic about promoting product. Release, live performances, interviews, online promo all have to be lined up.
I also need Ashanti to seriously contemplate what a HIT sounds like for a woman with her history at this point in her life and career. I keep thinking there is a void in the market for a huge ballad anthem — a la Nobody Supposed to Be Here. She needs a track so strong that it generates momentum on its own.
Or, she needs to come weird and randomly shoot somebody at the beginning of her next video.

That was a lazy uninspired performance with a backtrack that was way too loud. Felt like bad Karaoke if you gonna use a back track at least re-record the vocals. I understand the budget is different independent but you how hard you perform don’t have nothing to do with that and why perform the song Months after release and not weeks.
