Chart Check [Billboard 200]: Christina Aguilera’s ‘Liberation’ Drops To #98 In Week 2

Published: Wednesday 4th Jul 2018 by Rashad

Fans of ‘Twice’ singer Christina Aguilera probably had to look twice when checking for her latest album, ‘Liberation,’ on this week’s refreshed Billboard 200.

The set, her first studio album launched without a top 40 single preceding it, hit stores June 15th and made a respectable top 10 debut on last week’s chart (click here to read more).  With slowed promo in the days that followed its premiere (as she’s preparing for the ‘Liberation’ tour in its support) as well as an onslaught of new releases to compete with, the combined circumstances led to LP’s expected drop on the Billboard 200.

What was unexpected, however, was just how far that drop would be.  Look inside to see where she landed and see who occupies the top 25 on this week’s TGJ Chart Check:  Billboard 200:

It’s pathetic how monotonous and horrible radio has become when an instafamous THOT like Selena Gomez with limited talent gets a ton of spins and the voice of a generation with a solid album and good songs is deemed old news at 37. Christina took too long a break and lost her fan base and never expanded to a younger demo like P!nk and Bey. Shame bc she’s so talented

Christina is not the voice of any generation but she does have a good voice.

The carters are flopping too ????????

    • Caleb July 5, 2018

No comparison. The Carters dropped from #2-#4 vs #6-#98 for Xtina.

      • iamdiego July 5, 2018

      • Caleb July 5, 2018

Lmaooo and to think that her stans have been begging her for new music they weren’t gonna bother buying or streaming

It‘s a shame as this is a good album.

Problem is that Christina was just too full of herself in her prior years and missed the opportunity to really connect with a fanbase. You can’t achieve that with releasing an album every 5 years. As someone here said, PINK did this by far better than Christina.

Nonetheless, this is a good album and I wonder why there is such a low interest in the project. I mean, I would have done the rollout differently than they did, but her name alone should have kept that album at least in the top 20 for the first two weeks.

If it is such a good album where is the single that is a hit. Albums without hits are not good albums.

      • Jasmine Da Bi Asian NOT Trashmine or TROLLmine??‍♀️??‍♀️ July 5, 2018

Not true at all jasmine girl shut up

      • no name b**** July 6, 2018

You don’t need a hit single to have a good album. There are many good albums out there that don’t have radio hits and receive award nominations.
Friendly advise….Do your research before speaking!

    That’s terrible

  9. olusheyi banjo July 5, 2018

WOW THAT IS TERRIBLE. I FEEL BAD FOR HERE AND HER TEAM

  10. Abel July 5, 2018

It’s funny how these so called fans urge her to drop a new album and when she finally does, they don’t buy it.

    • Jasmine (The Real Jasmine) July 5, 2018

They bought it first week. Her sales were solid first week. The problem is lack of a hit single so casual consumers did not check for it or even stream it out of curiosity. She needs to generate buzz next time for those streams. Perhaps she should have toured first and released the album mid tour. I have not even listened to her album yet and I’m a casual Christina listener. I got through half of Back to Basics in 2006 and loved it but that is the last album from her I checked for. Her personality is not likeable so she is the kind of artist who needs a hit single before releasing an album.

Wow that’s crazy, her live vocals aren’t where they used to be though..

  12. Bad B**** July 5, 2018

Im dying! Christina fans look dumb as s*** right now. Bey always wins!

    • mr.m July 5, 2018

bey wins what? with all the gimmick and hype
her album flopped hard sis … keep thryin lol 🙁

  13. JOHNVIDAL July 5, 2018

What is the greatest showman soundtrack still doing there???? LOL Sales must be almost non-existant I see.

    • Jasmine (The Real Jasmine) July 5, 2018

It’s all about streams not sales though. The more popular you are the more you will be streamed unless you commit a Kanye in your popularity campaign. Christina’s fans supported first week and they will buy concert tickets. Her problem is not being popular enough for streaming or casual listeners with a hit single.

  14. DIABETES UNBOTHERED July 5, 2018

Lol this MASSIVE FLOP had to have set a new record. ppl just dont like straintinas voice or music. 2 more weeks and it will be off the chart completly. will never see 100k even with SPS lol.

    • mr.m July 5, 2018

      MASSIVE FLOP aka THE MONKEYS?
      Oops!

  15. ROCK July 5, 2018

Can she go back to the people that gave her hits circa 2002?
I still believe her voice can carry her

  16. mr.m July 5, 2018

Kudos to her for putting out a great solid album after this long ass break!
and kudos to all the fighters who’s still supporting after all these years lol
her gaps between each album obviously affected her career so much .. i guess.
She’s the only artist from her generation who takes +3 years between each album from the start of her career until now ..
but her music always been great.. even if she flops.. and thats all the matters! it’s better than putting out a s***** ass album and became a flop too lol

    • DIABETES UNBOTHERED July 5, 2018

this bichez music AND VOICE is GARBAGE which is why noone has bought either In 15 yrs ?

  17. WizeOne July 6, 2018

Gee – that’s embarrassing. Even with Demi Lovato she couldn’t get a single on the Hot 100, nor an album in the Top 5 despite the concert ticket bundle.

Next flop will be her tour based on such marginal sales. Basically only a tiny hard core of fans care about her music after Stripped. Maybe she can sell out some tiny venues.

I don’t think you can blame her six year gap between albums. P!nk had a 5 year gap and did very well with her latest album even though it was pretty lousy album and also had no big hits.

Sade and Janet have regularly taken long absences between albums but come back on top because people care about their music, and they have star power and durability. Xtina was pretty much a one album wonder: Stripped. Yeah her debut was a big seller but it was embarrassing bubblegum that even she hated. Back to Basics was where the rot set in.

Liberation failed to capture the public because no one feels bad for her having to be liberated from her extremely lucrative deal to be a judge on the Voice. Poor thing earning $$ millions to be on TV. We all felt so sorry for her.

    • mr.m July 6, 2018

      lol
her tour is 80% sold out .. keep tryin’

  18. Tomasz Jerzy Palucki July 11, 2018

And she has left top 200 (so what less than 500?)
