Kanye West fans recently celebrated the 10th anniversary of the rapper’s fourth studio album, ‘808s & Heartbreak.’ Released November 24th, 2008, the set – which features the hits ‘Love Lockdown,’ ‘Heartless,’ ‘Coldest Winter,’ and more – is marked as a pivotal moment in the emcee’s career and modern Hip Hop history.
Credited for introducing and making more acceptable a marriage between the genre and more melancholic Pop and electronica sounds, the chart-topping project is seeing its influence littered across efforts by today’s current and rising Rap stars. To commemorate its significance, G.O.O.D. Music artist and longtime West collaborator Malik Yuself (who co-produced the LP) has announced a 10th anniversary Stateside tour in its honor.
There’s one catch: Kanye West won’t be present. Details inside:
The announcement – unveiled recently via press release – states:
The tour is sponsored by Malik Yusef who will emcee the entire tour as DJ Good Music the Angel and is scheduled to stop [in 15 cities].
The artist performing will be local artists from each scheduled tour city, and Malik Yusef will emcee the entire tour as DJ GOOD Music the Angel. The album will be performed in its entirety by artists from each scheduled city on the tour. [source]
Yusef added:
“Any musicians have the ability to be a part of the tour, as the musical acts will be curated through an open application audition,” said Malik Yusef. “Each artist or group will perform songs from the “808s & Heartbreak” album in their own style, paying tribute to Kanye West’s original tracks.” The final performances will be selected by local fans through an online voting process.
Dates for the tour are listed on Malik Yusef.com, and on his Instagram @MalikYusef100.
