New Music: Rita Ora – ‘New Look’ & ‘Only Want You’

Published: Sunday 25th Nov 2018 by Sam

Rita Ora ended her six year album drought with the arrival of sophomore set ‘Phoenix.’

Unleashed on Friday, the set was preceded by several hits including ‘Your Song,’ ‘Anywhere,’ and newest smash ‘Let You Love Me.’

And it seems there are more chart wins incoming.

For two tracks on the project are garnering major attention and appear to be in contention

The first is fan-favorite ‘New Look,’ while the other guitar-driven ‘Only Want You.’ Notably, the latter has been serviced to top streaming playlists – indicating that a single push may be imminent.

Listen to both cuts below…

‘New Look’ is ear-candy! It’s laced with multiple hooks, has a melody that magnetises, and sounds like a smash in waiting.

It figures, however, why the more subdue ‘Only Want You’ looks to be in contention for a push. Sonically, more stripped back songs are in vogue and lyrically the track is all sorts of relatable.

With ‘Phoenix,’ Ora has delivered a solid Pop record that has many a single option. Kudos!

These cuts are so generic! This could be Selina Gomez, Cheryl or another of these pop girls. No one waits 6 years for this. I remember when artists used to create their individual sounds.
Brandy went from self titled to never say never. Christina came back out the gate with stripped. Rita gives us phoenix. She ain’t for real.

^^^^^ AGREED I had a listen this morning because I liked ‘Your Song and Anywhere‘ but the album is so BLAND AND GENERIC. It really could be ANYONE singing this album – I can’t even say it’s good POP music (like Dua Lipa‘s Album) , because the my picked the best singles and the rest is MEH and unforgettable. Maybe they need remixing so they‘re nothing like the originals ???

“Only Want You” is one of the tracks I like. The other song belongs with the one half of the album that I don’t care a whole lot for. It’s a shame that Rita has her own voice but works with producers who are okay with covering it up with auto tune and other dumb effects to try to be more appealing.

She can sing but her songs are very forgettable! These songs sound like leftover Selena Gomez songs from 2015!
