Performances: 2018 Soul Train Awards [Updated]

Published: Monday 26th Nov 2018 by Rashad

The Soul Train Awards 2018 aired moments ago.

Like previous years, this installment of the annual extravaganza paid homage to the achievements of the industry’s brightest R&B and Hip-Hop stars.

Hosted by Tichina Arnold and Tisha Campbell, the event (which was shot earlier this year) saw performances from the likes of Faith Evans, Bell Biv Devoe, Jon B., Jacquees, and more.

All the action after the jump…

The show was classic. VOCALS. Kelly Price was a standout-if ONLY she was likeable. She just seems like a Mean-Girl. Jon B looked s*** as ever…..but what happen to his Falsetto? FAITH EVANs is so underrated – she deserved this award. Long Over Due.

Jacquees performance was nice a little shaky in the beginning. But,what caught my eye was when the backup singers came and stood by him and sung. Whatever record label he is on need to make them a group. At that moment they gave me Jodeci & 112 feel. They all have s** Appeal as well. Plus, one of them was riffing through Jacquess performance. Jacquees blended right in when they all step forward as one. I believe they can make some hits as a group..

Great award show! Loved Faith Evans’ performance. She is so underrated. Also really enjoyed the 90’s tribute.

Loved Badu (best performance, IMO) and Ari Lennox. Not a big Faith fan, but it was nice to see she is still in good voice. Same with Donnell Jones.

I loooved this year’s show. It was everything the BET Awards should be. They had a great mix of old and new performers with a focus on r&b and soul, not all that other junk that’s been saturating urban radio. Koryn Hawthorne was a nice surprise, as was Jon B., Donnell, and the soul cypher. I’ve seen enough of New Edition and BBD for a while. It was fun at first, but they’re losing their freshness after the 2017/2018 tours and movies and performing the same two songs the same way every time they’ve been on TV. I saw Faith in concert 2 years ago and she looked and sounded AWFUL! It was not one of her best nights, but I see from the awards show that she still has talent and class. She picked all the right songs for the medley except for the absence of “Never Gonna Let You Go”. Tisha and Tichina are sooooo ready for a Martin reunion. They were a highlight for me, as an original 90s fan.

Faith absolutely killed it, best performance of the night. And her award was LONG overdue.
