She still needs to prove herself musically and vocally. She is a good dancer/ performer but her voice/sound is generic and her music is listenable but not defined and fits in with everyone else’s. The 90’s has an array of stars because everyone’s sound and images (the successful ones at least) were defined, refined, cultivated and the music was the best of the best.

Kid Janet Jackson is one of the most original artists of all times with classic music, classics music, a voice that may not have been the strongest but recognizeable and unique, revolutionary dancing and videos and originality that is copied to this day. Normani has none of that. She can sing and dance but her style is not defined. Her voice sounds like any black girl who can sing a little bit in the industry, if you put a tape in of her singing a song that wasn’t her song I wouldn’t know who’s voice that was and her dancing, tho good is always either a beyonce junior moment or Janet junior moment. She needs to find something for herself to make her stand out. Idc if she’s black or not but I won’t praise mediocrity just cause she’s black. We have Rihanna for that
My twins love it, as do I, we are proud to say that we are part of #TheNation ⚜️ and we hear Dancing With A Stranger on my girls’ favourite London stations This Is Heart and Heat FM regularly, and when on it really helps settle difficult school runs, back seat arguments and inevitable traffic jams! its doing well because of both of them. she held her own in the duet. people wouldnt be praising her if they didnt believe in her talent. shes getting the exposure and gaining fans as she deserves. she will get there with more time and honing of her craft. shes proving it more n more as time passes.
But Sam Smith carried most of the weight. Usually in the UK Sam Smith does well. he does well wherever he goes but this is mainly him lets not beat around the bush. Her last few songs didn’t chart
