Album Stream: Solange – ‘When I Get Home’

Published: Friday 1st Mar 2019 by Rashad

It’s here!  Solange has finally unleashed her brand new album, ‘When I Get Home.’

Despite being officially announced earlier today (as we reported here), the set has been hotly anticipated following a solid week of steady teasing.  Coming in at a whopping 19 tracks, the project – which features the likes of Playboi Carti, Earl Sweatshirt, Tyler the Creator, Gucci Mane, and more – follows 2016’s critically acclaimed ‘A Seat At The Table’ – which opened at #1 on the Billboard 200 and earned the star her first Grammy Award.

Will her newest effort follow ‘Table’s suit?  Listen inside and tell us:

  2. DanYiel Iman March 1, 2019

She makes homely music & it’s a vibe for me!!?

    • Jilly March 1, 2019

DanYiel, did you mean to say “homey” music as “homely” means unattractive or ugly.

  3. DIABETES UNBOTHERED ? March 1, 2019

10+ interludes/snippets on ANY album is uncalled for. On a seat at the table it was Cute but pointless on this album.

Sound of Rain reminds me of Aliyah, can’t wait to hear binz in full.

    • thanosoftitan March 1, 2019

‘Sound of Rain’ is the only interesting song on the album. The actual album as a complete work does not match the hype.

    • Fancy BISH March 1, 2019

These girls either sound like Janet or Aaliyah at the very very end of the day! Janet is MOTHER (MUVA) to ALL modern day music tho, point blank period ? lol…Aaliyah would be a top streaming female with multi platinum albums in 2019…so ahead of her time! Even Drake credits her! And whatever you do, don’t listen to Aaliyah self-titled or The Velvet Rope after listening to any 2018/2019 female R&B/pop album…you have been warned chile ? ? The intro to Together Again is where Ariana got her whole style from ?

      • ayyye March 1, 2019

u aint lying .. from ella mai shot clock to solanges whisper tones… but the kids stay trying to come for queen janet

      • Jilly March 1, 2019

Janet is motha? That heifer can’t sing and she certainly doesn’t write any damn music. Janet is and has always been a studio singer and I’m being generous considering she has the vocals of a 2 year old. If she didn’t have all of the buttons and knobs on that over-produced s*** noone would be talking about her. And she can’t be credited for music that a team of others wrote/produced/composed, etc…. Modern day music owes her not a damn thing, but then when you speak of modern day music you may be referring to these b******* pop girls and boys that are the equivalent of eating at McDonald’s. Nothing good about that s***.

      • Bam March 1, 2019

Jilly you really have to research before you talk sh*+ cause you only make yourself look DAF. Janet is a credited songwriter on a majority of her songs. Also Black Cat was written and produced solely by Janet and hit #1. Not many artist can claim that feat.

      • Jazzy Da Bi Asian ??‍♀️??‍♀️??‍♀️ March 1, 2019

@Jilly Janet is inducted into the BMI songwriters hall of fame. She writes or cowrites ALL of her music. You ain’t know that?

  4. Ughhh March 1, 2019

I’m on song 10 and she has yet to sing. Each album she sings less and less. I’m not judging completely yet but where is the singing… like I get she is into a“contextualized high-art” form of singing but give me lyrical content that isn’t a repetitive melody and singing that’s flows with emotion and less tracks that are overpowered by monotone adult swim vibes. I know you shouldn’t compare artist to their previous albums but I miss True

  5. Mail March 1, 2019

Looks like she inherited the overhype , because……

  6. Meme March 1, 2019

Issa no from me dawg. So disappointing and such a massive let down. I don’t understand how she went from A Seat to this.

Everything sounds like noise and construction and sound distortion. There’s no singing or real melody. There’s no replay ability.

I get being different and far left, but the listeners still has to enjoy the sound. And this is just unpleasant.

    • Clarkson March 1, 2019

I thought u said her music was everything in a previous post. Lol congratulations u played yourself.

      • Meme March 1, 2019

I was judging based on her previous efforts. I had no idea this would sound like this.

  7. Brent Christopher March 1, 2019

LOL! the joke is on y’all tonight!!

  8. DIABETES UNBOTHERED ? March 1, 2019

19 tracks but only 9 songs have a runtime of two minutes or more and only 5 that are three minutes long. I don’t see this being as successful as A seat at the Table. The streams will be solid tho Top 5 debut.

  9. Clarkson March 1, 2019

I told yall, she makes good videos but crappy songs.
She hides behind this whole art, I’m artistic ish but beneath all of it, the music is crappy, boring, weak lyrics, horrible dated sounds, poor singing etc
I’m glad u all are seeing thru her gimmicks.

Same thing with Frank ocean, he gets praised for doing the least. He has only 2 good songs, novacane and thinking about you, the rest of his discography is trash.
his next album, people are going to see him for who he really is, a gimmicky untalented hack who used his sexuality to sell records. He never even said he is gay.

    • DIABETES UNBOTHERED ? March 1, 2019

Pink matter is way better than novacane and thinking about you

And solanges videos are corny, the songs are usually better but this album sounds like a Experimental Jazz Mixtape with urban influences here and there and minimalistic vocals and undertones borrowed from the much more solid Seat at the table

  10. Beam Me Up Scotty March 1, 2019

There were bits and pieces here and there that I enjoyed, but it’s mostly a lot of noise. I wish she would sing more.

  11. Clarkson March 1, 2019

Lol everybody and their mama on Twitter and IG are praising the album, some are even calling it art just to seem hip and cool even tho they know deep down in their hearts this album is complete trash.

Watch corny music critics shower this trash album with praises and acclaim the same way they did everything is love.

  12. Haterz Gon‘ Hate March 1, 2019

Well……. Top marks for going off on a non commercial creative tangent …… ??‍♂️ however, having just listed to the TRUE EP just now, girl used to actually sing melodies, hooks and choruses, where they at now ? ?

The new album is so sparse, minimalist and lacking in clear song structure that it’s hard to imagine this being more than Ironing Music.

ASATT was rich in background harmonies and layered her vocals to create a rich texture that is lacking in this new album. She seems almost fragile, weak and without conviction in her vocal delivery.

If you’re going to go off into your ART be prepared to marginalise the masses – because most people will not get this album and it feels like a decline from the quality we saw on the last two offers… possibly problematic..

  13. Liam March 1, 2019

I actually like the album ??‍♂️

  14. Mark111 March 1, 2019

You have to be a true fan of Solange to enjoy this album. And by that, I mean knowing that she wasn’t going to play it safe, hop on a trend or keep a previous sound. This is a meditation, relaxing, house cleaning, a walk, long drive home album. There’s no go to track, you just press play and go on. I like it. Her True EP is still her best work tho.

  15. Bad B March 1, 2019

I respect her art its just not for me

  16. Missy March 1, 2019

This album is not for the general public. This is for creatives and artist.
Don’t believe me? Read the comments. These are the folks who think they are music lovers but when something comes out that requires them to use their imagination, they freak out.
The album is a Mood and it’s great!

  17. Fancy BISH March 1, 2019

Where is Raphael Saadiq? He was all over A Seat At The Table..I don’t feel his presence (genius) on this one…he gives songs an addictive quality…I’m still gonna give it a few more listens before I give my take on it ? Way to The Show is standing out, Sound Of Rain ?

  18. Tahj March 1, 2019

She is not a singer to me, she is an artist. With that said, I have always been a fan of her creations and I still am. Had to walk into work and left at “Almeda” and yo…whatever/whoever Almeda is?!? idunno lol But IM FEELIN THAT TRACK!!

  19. Big Momma March 1, 2019

This album is for Black Twitter…just a lotta dumb noise that says nothing.

  20. OkHit March 1, 2019

This album is supper dope i love all the songs

  21. I HATE WHYTEE BITCHESS AND BLACKK March 1, 2019
