Watch: The Making Of ‘The Kelly Rowland Edition’ EP

Published: Wednesday 29th May 2019 by Sam

Kelly Rowland sprung a surprise on fans earlier this month when she released an EP without prior notice.

The unique venture saw the solo Grammy winner team with Red Bull Music Studios to create fresh material with up and coming talent.

With the three-track collection continuing to garner buzz, Ms. Kelly and Red Bull invite the masses behind the scenes to see how the mini project was pieced together by the Destiny’s Child graduate and Fabian Mazur, Lord Quest, P. Wright, pineappleCiti, Alex Saad, and TWhy Xclusive.

So what are you waiting for? Check out the making of ‘The Kelly Rowland Edition’ after the jump…

Such a cool concept.

With Rowland working on her first album since 2013’s ‘Talk A Good Game,’ we’d love to see the process chronicled a la this.

I think Kelly goes into her new projects wanting to make a smash album but she just always finds her way back to the same sound and it just ends up luke-warm. She had too many chances. I’m convinced her taste level is average that’s why she can’t soar.

I love Kelly, I’ve had the chance to meet her several times, she’s always been a sweetheart, for real ♥️
    Her tone is everything.

I’m not saying this in a shady way, but unfortunately, I don’t think this is buzzing at all. It’s a beautiful gift for the fans, we haven’t had new music is a LONG time. Those 3 tracks + the Ciara duet, thank you !

I still think she hasn’t showed all her vocal skills yet, I really want her to SANG and show it live on selected performances where people will be like « I didn’t know she had it like that ».

I like the fact she wants to go for Funky tracks, but she needs to hit it hard like Treasure or Uptown Funk. Diamonds lacks that humpf IMO.

I hope we’ll get a full lenght album soon.

Well, I like the 90’s sound/vibe but I think that if SHE is going to try to make that sound hot again, which I think some of the artists of her generation are trying to, she is going to need a sound that is a bit harder. This could be a 3rd single based on what I am hearing from the snippet.

I’m glad she is making music she loves & what she wants! Most of her fans has loved this EP & really wants her to make more music in this direction! At this point it ain’t nothing but kids on this website bcuz if u gotta problem with those 3 songs on that EP u clearly no nothing about music! If u don’t like it keep it tha f** moving! All I ask as a fan is proper professional roll out of her music projects & for her to promote other than that I have no complaints!

Yes you are right the Music is good, but somthing is missing. Its like you cooked a meal and you did not put in enough salt. I love her but she need more Uptempo Songs. I want to see Kelly Peform LIke she did on the Voice with ProudMary or They dont Care about us!

And I dont think this are the songs to show the world how good she can Peform. Everybody of us want her to put a great show together where we can see how she improve as a Peformer with banger Songs.

This sounds like this is going to be one of her best albums. Real musicality ya know, not that same b.s sound that every new artist uses. Same damn music just different lyrics. I can’t wait for album to drop, day one fan

This video release taught me something new about marketing. Upon my initial listening of the ep (before seeing this) I quickly sad.. NEXT and thought the third song was the stand out. After seeing this video I realized that her statement about being 2nd best has stigmatized her so much, it’s hard for listeners to objectively hear her music. This video literally changed my perspective. To see Kelly boss up and demonstrate her creating her art while sharing the intent/why behind it… MADE THIS ME HEAR THESE SONGS TOTALLY DIFFERENT! I now like the EP and think that third joint is ? For those who are younger (early 20s and younger) it may just be hard for you to get into this sound. It’s sounds nothing like current music so.. it’s a hard listen initially. So it’s definitely a vibe that’s not for the general. Once you catch it though.. it makes sense. The first track reminds me of the music that was played on the bus when I would ride home from my track meets as a little child lol ahh! I see it clear as day. When Tevin Campbell was that dude. Needless to say, if she continues this.. she can create a solid album. I’m officially excited for a Kelly Row project. I’ve never felt this way about her as an individual artist ??‍♂️

It was interesting to watch the process having never see her in such a setting before. I wonder if this is her approach to recording when it’s for a full album with big name producer and A&R in the room because recording a track because you can groove to it and will enjoy it for years does not equal an ear for a HIT.

Somebody needs to find Kelly songs she likes that are HITS and maybe some she’s doesn’t love that are HITS because Ariana almost passed on Bang Bang and Celine almost passed on My Heart Will Go On – but the songs were part of the public’s consciousness and they are two examples of different levels of hits.

And RAISE THE TEMPO KELLY – this quiet storm snooze Lane is too comfortable for her – we know you can do those tracks – but pack 50% uptempo also so people can hear you drop an anthemic vocal and DANCE ??
