Lil Nas is on top…and there’s nothing his detractors can do about it.
Find out how the multi-faceted performer made over $1 million this month below…
Much like his hero Nicki Minaj, Nas has spent the last few months soaring in the face of criticism thanks to the organic support he has received from the general public.
This month, his launch single ‘Old Town Road’ extended its run as one of the biggest songs to impact the last decade after it matched records set by the likes of Whitney Houston‘s ‘I Will Always Love You’ and outlasted/outran singles launched by Pop titans Taylor Swift, Drake, Cardi B, Shawn Mendes, Justin Bieber and Ed Sheeran.
How? By generating over $1 million in the United States alone.
Last week, the track’s earnings hummed to the tune of $311,120 in the United States helping it reach the $1 million marker when the income it generated in the two weeks which led up to it were thrown into his sales equation.
Nas (whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill) picked up a share of 25% for writing the song which means he will collect a quarter of all of the money the track earns for life with help from Kobalt…the publishing company he is signed to.

What would you do if you earned as much as money Nas has?
SHADE COATED IN THE BEGINNING TEXT
SO INCREDIBLY HAPPY TO SEE A YOUNG BLACK MAN INFILTRATING WHITE SPACES & RECLAIMING THE MUSIC THAT WAS STOLEN FROM OUR MATRIARCHS & PATRIARCHS FROM THE CONGO.
Lil Nas X has come at a time when white people are blatantly borrowing & benefitting from cultural practices, looks, ideas, lingo & imagery that stems organically from the BLACK community.
I love that his songs’ success is a middle finger to middle American racists who state claim over country music & the real life stories told throughout the genres likeness.
OLD TOWN ROAD may stand as the only major hit this young man ever secures in his lifetime. However, what he is accomplishing culturally, makes the world sit back & realize that black people ARE the dominant force behind art in every form.
It’s funny, because Lil Nas’ success is what Justin Timberlake aimed to achieve with his most recent MAN OF THE WOODS album. This is the sound Justin was actually trying to master.
If Justin is smart, he will break loose from
Pharrell & Timbaland for this fifth LP effort.
COMGRATULATIONS LIL NAS X!! — especially for keeping the pasty, lily white, mayonnaise queen from reaching number one with her silly, SWIFT nursery rhymes.
Moderator: We enjoy reading your comments here at TGJ HQ Brent. You know your stuff.
You must be the most bitter person in the USA.
Your heart is full of hate… Quite sad.
I’m happy that the song is doing well, its a great song!
I would be so upset with him if he dates a pasty white boy. U can never see a successful gay black man with another black guy. Successful gay black celebrities always date Male beckys.
Well you know he is lol no shade! Look at Francisca Ocean. Tyler the creator. Billy porter. Those the first three gay Black dudes I can think of and they’re all with white dudes
