New Video: Cardi B – ‘Press’

Published: Wednesday 26th Jun 2019 by Sam

With Cardi B serving as a firm fixture in the headlines, it’s fitting that the rapper’s latest single is titled ‘Press.’

Fresh from annihilating the stage at the 2019 BET Awards with a live offering of the track, ASCAP’s Songwriter Of The Year has unleashed its accompanying video.

Continuing her now trademark practice of cinematic visuals, Belcalis has gone all-out for the turn-up anthem.

What are you waiting for? Watch new Cardi after the jump…

The video amplifies the potency of the song and, in an era where streaming is the primary vehicle for success, that could be its strongest weapon.

Whatever its commercial performance, ‘Press’ proves Cardi is firmly establishing herself as a visual maestra. Her videography, in such short space of time, is already more impressive than others who have years on her.  Again, incredible.

Cardi and her team fully understand the power of imagery. They get that despite Cardi’s status as a rap artist, she is also a pop culture personality, a music industry entertainer & the leading female performer of her genre.

With each video, Cardi and her team make the moments count. Every lash we see in close up, each turn up of her top lip, the point of her heel or the quick spin of her hair is yet another ode to POWER OF THE DETAIL.

PRESS is already a heavy, in your face, impactful anthem. Cardi uses this track to release her inner most frustrations & annoyances with critics, public banter & headline fodder.

The music video to accompany this single allows the viewer to tap into the inner workings of a storyline we mostly assume about celebrities and their behind the scene lives. Cardi puts it all on front street & unapologetically states claim over her own likeness.

She isn’t only the star, but also the moving target. Her presence is declaration of refusing to budge or to be sidelined by those too insecure to embrace the wins.

YOU ARE THE PEOPLES CHAMPION // guilty or not.

    • Erica June 26, 2019

I think they definitely taking a page out of Britney Spears early days. Like how Britney perform slave 4 u for the first time at a award show with all the same choreography that would be use in the video that’s released a day after

      • Ssa June 26, 2019

Stiffney got that from Janet. ??‍♂️

    • PinotNoir June 27, 2019

      Impactful anthem? People’s champion? Huh?

What do you know about being in the tabloids for this to impact you? And what humanitarian causes has Cardi championed for you to give her this title?

Heck, glad you stopped before erecting her on a cross.

      • Ellie Peters June 29, 2019

Exactly! They need to stop. How hard is it, tobe buck naked, and kill people. Nothing cinematic about it. Only in a horror movie I guess. The media has lost their damn minds, Cardi is literally getting away with murder. ?‍♀️

      • EllieP June 29, 2019

        I don’t get this world anymore. I really don’t.

  4. Dc June 26, 2019

Dusted Megatron the first second ????

    • Fancy BISH June 26, 2019

      Yes! ✅ ?

  5. Erica June 26, 2019

At this point why bother??? she’s going surpassed nicki views by tomorrow ?‍♂️? The shade of it all is if press jump up higher on the hot 100. nicki & her entire fan base will be “Pressed” see what I did there wow Cardi 10’s across the board

  6. ayyye June 26, 2019

with her natural performing and acting skills if she keeps this up.., its no stopping

  7. Clarkson June 26, 2019

She makes better videos than nicki. Money, please me and now press are all visual masterpieces. I can see alot of vma nominations for cardi this year.

The song is falling down the charts but with the bet award performance and the video it will probably jump into the top 10 next week.

    • Jasmine June 26, 2019

I like them being different. We don’t need a Nicki clone. Cardi is doing good as a new artist.

    • Caleb June 26, 2019

But what about the cinematic masterpiece that was Starships?

  8. Adonis June 26, 2019

It’s a masterpiece! Creative genius cardi! Unlike a certain other heffa who constantly pushes her body and sexuality down our throat, I applaud cardi. This already shat on megawrong ?

  9. Urg June 26, 2019

Gotto hive it to her the song sucks but the visu als makes up for it. Ole girl Nicki should get a pen and pad and make some notes.

  10. Bey Best June 26, 2019

Nicki is too corny to be on Cardi’s level.

  11. Not David But DA’VEED June 26, 2019

I don’t know if Cardi can survive in a Rihanna world. Nicki did. I go to Cardi because she is kinda fulfilling an edge Rihanna used to give when Rihanna was dropping music. I think she copies that a little. If she ever tries to coexist within the same era, for sure Cardi will have a big competition in survival. Until then she is hitting it at the right time with the right energy. Not a nicki or Cardi fan so watching them creatively as well as watching the fans react is all observation with no preference.

    • Jasmine June 26, 2019

Rihanna is NOT a rapper. In the 90s you had numerous black artists on the charts at the same time and they were releasing music in different genres (rap, rnb, pop, jazz, etc). Since when is there only room for one black rapper to be on the charts??????????????

There is plenty of room for any black artist with a hot song and video. The more the better. I don’t hear white people saying there is only room for one white artist on the chart.

    • StarXavi June 26, 2019

But for real lets not pit them against eachother….they need to collab!!! Rihanna and Cardi collab is going number 1 for sure!!

  12. KIKI June 26, 2019

    Now thats a music video!

    Thats how you come out!

fire! Cardi B killin the game!

  13. tina June 26, 2019

Cardi and her whole team are killin it!

  14. Pedonika June 26, 2019

Pedonika just sent a child into Jelanis cell out of anger!!!

    • TruthfullySpeaking June 26, 2019

  15. LUCKI June 26, 2019

Cardi is miles ahead of others in terms of MUSIC, FASHION & VISUALS. Aesthetically, she is sickening. I would’ve never thought the ratchet girl from Love & Hip Hop would consistently deliver like this.

    • Keith June 26, 2019

@Lucki: I think EVERYONE is surprised. Her team has done their homework and studied those that have set a precedent.

  16. 2bad2bme June 26, 2019

Beyonce Lemonade Voice: “Here lies the body of Nicki Minaj’s career”

  17. Keith June 26, 2019

Stupid song, GREAT visual. A good mix of GaGa and hood imagery…A+ for her team!

  18. Send4Me June 26, 2019

It is honestly so annoying that every Nicki post or Cardi post is filled with comments bashing the other — or that they are flopping or over. The internet, fans, and media keep fanning the flames unnecessarily (just a statement)

However, anyone who watches this video and calls it wack is delusional. Cardi comes through with the visuals and her team knows how to create good moments that will get people talking. The video will definitely help the song as it made me like the song even more by seeing it acted out. POP UP GUESS WHO B****.

Also, lyrically Nicki is better (if you want to lie and deny her entire discography that’s your problem) but she definitely has lacked in the music video aspect and live entertaining aspect. Even with Megatron I like the song and it’s care free and simple which works for summer, but visually it was lazy and aside from looking great I didn’t get any MOMENT that was unique.

Observation: Why does Nicki get bashed for being sexual or showing her body in her video (she’s too old or fake body, etc.) but Cardi does very similar things and it gets called empowerment. I notice the same rules don’t apply across the board when it comes to females and that’s weird.

    Great video though. DING DONG!

    • Erica June 26, 2019

You just said stop comparing them in the beginning of your statement & at the end of it you comparing them ??? make it make sense

      • Send4Me June 26, 2019

I said “filled with comments bashing the other” I didn’t bash either but provided props to both and a critique. It’s inevitable they will be compared that isn’t unique to hip-hop. Pop stars and R&B artist get compared to each other all the time, but fueling the narrative of rapper vs rapper is just really annoying at this point in my opinion.

  19. Maxx June 26, 2019

Cardi’s material is on a whole ‘nother level when it comes to delivering quality & not just a bunch of plastic butts running around. She just delivers quality material each & every time. You have to put in the work to reap the rewards.

  20. A&R June 26, 2019

I don’t know what God is doing but the entry of Cardi in the music industry is a true phenomenon. This girl is only one album in and is already etched in history. She’s also shifting pop culture. Although I’m officially a Cardi fan, this woman’s star is so bright I find myself trying figure out who to give the credit of her creative success to but… it’s her man. There are artist with bigger budgets and super professional/ proven creative teams there aren’t producing product like this.

My thought is.. Cardi has a super creative team that makes sure th creative ideas are executed with excellence but I think she’s the lead behind the ideas.

This is one of the best HI HOP videos in hip hop history. PERIOD!

  21. Haterz Gon‘ Hate June 26, 2019

DAMN – I wasn’t checking for Cardi like that but what strikes me about her BET performance and this video is the flawless EXECUTION. She has taken all the best elements of styling, visual concept, narrative based video treatment, track production and some CHOREO and SWAG to weave together a can’t miss visual. #itsaslay #whodatotherwoman 10/10 ???

  26. Wake Up June 26, 2019

Y’all are so fake in this comment section, this video and song are complete trash.

      • Dc June 26, 2019

Megatron flopped already and they said this was her comeback ??

    • Send4Me June 26, 2019

So you waddled over to a post about Cardi and her great new video…to provide updates on the iTunes placement of a song that isn’t even included in the post nor pertaining to Cardi. Gee, thanks for the update. Much needed.

  28. 7 June 26, 2019

Well that was Boring. She sucks

  29. Jez June 26, 2019

I’m not a fan but she kill it visually. Her creative team did an expectional job well done

  30. eric June 26, 2019

Why is it that we criticize artists/celebrities (e.g. Stefflon) when they don’t acknowledge BLM or race issues in general, but then we celebrate Cardi and other artists who glorify criminal behavior, violence and brutality among blacks? Our foolishness and naivety is profitable to the white people who devote large budgets to fill our airwaves with songs and videos that are dressed up to disguise their destructiveness. They know that we will never question the implications of our people consuming and internalizing the kinds of messages that a song/video like “Press” sends out. Like every other Cardi song, “Press” serves to maintain the pipeline that keeps more black bodies in prisons than in classrooms. It is a struggle to which we contribute when we fail to look at the ways in which slavery has evolved. Cardi is serving master in the big house while the rest of us are in the fields keeping them rich. Wake up!!

    • Bodaky Yakky June 26, 2019

Girl shut up. Take that to the NAACP.

    • Caleb June 26, 2019

      Cardi supports BLM.

  31. Buzz Off June 26, 2019

Ain’t nobody listening to Onika’s Crap!!

  32. Beam Me Up Scotty June 26, 2019

Let’s be honest here, there’s really nothing innovative about this video. Mind you Nicki Minaj’s video wasn’t innovative either. She as well as the dancers are nude and they had their n****** and private parts removed so the video wouldn’t get an age restriction or get banned. SHE IS DANCING NUDE WITH OTHER NUDE DANCERS. People were shot and killed. Where’s the innovation? If Nicki Minaj had done this you wouldn’t have said it’s innovative.

    • TruthfullySpeaking June 26, 2019

MegaFLOP #18 and predicted to debut in the top 40 ? while Lizzo itches closer and closer to breaking the Top 10. Furthermore Press + Rodeo moves up the iTunes ranks. I’ll be back to wrap ya coffin with a blow next week! ?

      • Beam Me Up Scotty June 26, 2019

It’s actually predicted to be in top 20, which is not a flop. Lizzo is a fat fad that will fade away soon. Nicki Minaj’s career is still thriving, so get over it.

      • Pedonika June 26, 2019

Only thing that’s thriving with Pedonika are her ass shot invoices

  33. Ratedxxx June 26, 2019

    She’s trying to damn hard…..

And what the heck does nicki have to do with this slow bish…

As a nicki fan…I want to thank you for all the nicki press you have been giving..everyday

    • Pedonika June 26, 2019

All that press and still nobody is checking for Pedonika‘s new music and she’s still to achieve a no 1 record and receive a Grammy LMAO

      • Beam Me Up Scotty June 26, 2019

People are checking for it though which is why it will be in the top 20. Stop talking out of your b*** and come with receipts. She may not have a grammy or a #1, but she has longevity, something that a lot of musicians wish they could have. Let’s see if Cardi B is relevant in 10 years. “Press” flopping the way it has proves she is on her way out.

      • Pedonika June 26, 2019

What relevancy are you speaking of sis?
Cause I‘ve never seen any of Flopnika‘s rap tracks high up on the Charts. Only time she’s been semi successful is when she jumped on David Guetta‘s d*** for the sake of reaching no 1 which she never did. LMAO

What relevancy sis? NONE of the up coming femcees are citing Pedonika as their inspiration. Wanna know why? Because people prefer the original aka Lil Kim.

Lmao flopnika is a has been

  34. Judy the 1 June 26, 2019

a cute video for a flop song

  35. Truth! June 26, 2019

Call the song “Depress” because it’s at the bottom of the chart

    • Pedonika June 26, 2019

Might as well call Flopnika‘s whole career depress since most of her 298899 tries to reach no 1 ended on the lower half of billboard lmao

  36. Just Sayin’ June 26, 2019

Don’t y’all ever get tired of this Cardi vs Nicki s***. Gosh it really old every damn post the same rethroic argument. The video was great though the song is garbage. I wish her all the vest.

  37. Erica June 26, 2019

Press is up to 44 while nicki has fell to 20 I hope Cardi don’t trump nicki like this ??‍♂️

  38. Monica’s Dove June 26, 2019

Nicki has no stage presence, her music is dated and her videos are cheap/forgettable. Her team should take notes from Cardi.
