I don’t know if Cardi can survive in a Rihanna world. Nicki did. I go to Cardi because she is kinda fulfilling an edge Rihanna used to give when Rihanna was dropping music. I think she copies that a little. If she ever tries to coexist within the same era, for sure Cardi will have a big competition in survival. It is honestly so annoying that every Nicki post or Cardi post is filled with comments bashing the other — or that they are flopping or over. The internet, fans, and media keep fanning the flames unnecessarily (just a statement)
However, anyone who watches this video and calls it wack is delusional. Cardi comes through with the visuals and her team knows how to create good moments that will get people talking. Also, lyrically Nicki is better (if you want to lie and deny her entire discography that’s your problem) but she definitely has lacked in the music video aspect and live entertaining aspect. Even with Megatron I like the song and it’s care free and simple which works for summer, but visually it was lazy and aside from looking great I didn’t get any MOMENT that was unique.
Observation: Why does Nicki get bashed for being sexual or showing her body in her video (she’s too old or fake body, etc.) but Cardi does very similar things and it gets called empowerment. I notice the same rules don’t apply across the board when it comes to females and that’s weird.

I said “filled with comments bashing the other” I didn’t bash either but provided props to both and a critique. It’s inevitable they will be compared that isn’t unique to hip-hop. Pop stars and R&B artist get compared to each other all the time, but fueling the narrative of rapper vs rapper is just really annoying at this point in my opinion.
Cardi’s material is on a whole ‘nother level when it comes to delivering quality & not just a bunch of plastic butts running around. She just delivers quality material each & every time. You have to put in the work to reap the rewards.
I don’t know what God is doing but the entry of Cardi in the music industry is a true phenomenon. This girl is only one album in and is already etched in history. She’s also shifting pop culture. Although I’m officially a Cardi fan, this woman’s star is so bright I find myself trying figure out who to give the credit of her creative success to but… it’s her man. There are artist with bigger budgets and super professional/ proven creative teams there aren’t producing product like this.
My thought is.. Cardi has a super creative team that makes sure th creative ideas are executed with excellence but I think she’s the lead behind the ideas.

They know that we will never question the implications of our people consuming and internalizing the kinds of messages that a song/video like “Press” sends out. Like every other Cardi song, “Press” serves to maintain the pipeline that keeps more black bodies in prisons than in classrooms. It is a struggle to which we contribute when we fail to look at the ways in which slavery has evolved.
