New Song: Kygo & Whitney Houston – ‘Higher Love’

Published: Friday 28th Jun 2019 by David

Kygo, with the support and permission of and from her relatives, used Whitney Houston’s voice to build a track named ‘Higher Love.’

The track’s vocal was recorded by Houston in 1990 as a cover of the Steve Winwood track of the same name and was supposed to appear on her third album ‘I’m Your Baby Tonight’ but was pulled because Clive Davis felt…

we didn’t want her being a cover artist at that time.

Now, years after her death and 29 years after the cover was recorded, Kygo has worked his magic with it and released it to support his discography and inject some much-needed positivity  into a dark world.

Enjoy below…

Pat Houston, Whitney’s sister-in-law, shared…

The current cultural environment has been thirsty for something uplifting and inspiring. Who better to inspire than Whitney, the most exhilarating vocalist of all time?

Higher Love is a classic and Whitney is the Queen Of Vocals so obviously this is a bop ???

  5. Seth June 28, 2019

This kind of sound is what should have been done with Jennifer Hudson.

Always thought that jhud should have went the 90ies house vibe Route – She could have been a beast for one or two Albums

        XYZ: Me too.

Jennifer oversings so it would not work and her voice is light on personality. Her voice is better fitted for broadway than pop or rnb music. She is a loud belter but her voice lacks the IT factor that is needed to sell music. Whitney, Anita, Toni, Mariah, Celine, Fantasia, etc all have voices with personality. Alexandra Burke suffers the same problem as Jennifer…having a powerful singing voice that lacks personality. Personality can be learned though so im surprised Clive Davis did not teach Jennifer that early on.

Actually, its a nice mix and does her justice. Good work. Unlike a lot of that s*** they did with poor Michael’s Songs

    • Danny Bey June 28, 2019

The ‘Michael’ album was trash but the ‘Xscape’ album was a bop

It’s not something I would play over and over due to the production being terribly derivative, but the fresh vocals are nice to hear. Clive made the right choice.

Sit down… That comment wasn’t even needed. Keep it cute or keep it mute.

This is great and should be a huge hit. This is how you mix a cover and or sampled song.

The trinity man! The trinity. The last true vocal icons that conquered the world on voice alone.

  15. Casual June 28, 2019

    Love this.

Whitney is the only pop star to make the National Anthem chart & sell, this would have been a major hit for her if released. It doesn’t make sense, most of her catalog is covers, but she would always make the covers her own so much you’d forget who sung it first. Still, despite the dance mix, she SHINES, no surpise but much needed and welcomed.

    Ouahhh
I miss her so much damn this voice i just imagine her sing that on live and i cant contain my tears
Thks kygo u do her justice

    • JOHNVIDAL June 29, 2019

What a voice. It´s not even the thing she could do with it, it just is HOW IT SOUNDS. Either you have it or not. Few have it to conquer the masses with voice alone like Whitney. There are many people in fan bases that don´t undertsand that.

  18. JOHNVIDAL June 29, 2019

Ever since I discovered this record by Whitney the voice Houston like 10 or 15 years ago I have been in love with it. So uplifting in Whitney´s memorable voice.

This is F****** amazing! So glad it’s been released and I hope and pray they release her Verizon of “Don’t Look Any Further” apparently it was give to her and Jermaine Jackson first but for some reason never made it to her album. I wonder how many more unreleased gems are waiting to be discovered in the vaults!
