Beyonce’s ‘Lion King: The Gift’ Storms To #1 On iTunes & Apple Music / ‘Brown Skin Girl’ Struts Into Top 10

Published: Saturday 20th Jul 2019 by Sam

Beyonce sits atop of the Pop pack and the charts are reflecting.

Yesterday saw Queen Bey unleash ‘The Lion King: The Gift’ – a multi-artist companion project she curated in support of the movie.

Billed as a “love letter to Africa,” the set saw the singer assemble a who’s who of the Afrobeats scene – such as Tiwa Savage and Wizkid – alongside US titans like Kendrick Lamar, Jay-Z, and Pharrell.

And early signs point to the public lapping it up!

Details below…

As at writing, ‘The Gift’ sits at #1 on both iTunes and Apple Music US – indicating solid out of the gate performance on both digital and streaming formats.

Elsewhere, WizKid collaboration ‘Brown Skin Girl’ is proving one of the most popular cuts from the collection.

It’s charged into the top 10 of iTunes US (at #9) and rising fast on on Apple Music at #14.

Both the album and ‘Brown Skin’ have buckets of potential. So we’re keen to see how this plays out.

^^^THIS this is Beyonće in a lane that she fits beautifully. So chill in it’s vibe with a message with refreshing substance. #slay

This! ✅ ? Bigger has an almost Sade vibe to it…nuanced and rich details that hit the ears just right! I love it ?

      • Marie July 20, 2019

You have to work and use the computer and internet, and if you can do that and dedicate some time each day then you can do this with no problem.
I have been working with this for a month and have made over $2,000 already. let me know if you need more help.

FIND YOUR WAY BACK the song that comes after BETTER has a Sade vibe to it as well. It also feels like a sequel to Daddy Lessons in the lyrics.

        YES! You’re on point! ✅

It’s terrible. I didn’t like it. I don’t care if she’s number one but this album sucks and same old stuff that she’s been doing.

    • MJBFamilyAffair July 20, 2019

      Ooopps only in itunes lol

To the the fool that said this is the same she’s always been doing: which tracks has Beyoncé done with a choir a’la Spirit, that was for a soundtrack, with lyrics written to fit the theme of a FILM and shot in a dessert in with treatments similar to this one??? This is not sonically not the same as Lemonade or Self Titled or 4. You WISH it all sounded the same – but to be honest if you feel that way why don’t you just put on some headphones and a blindfold and play in traffic listening to Taylor? FOH. SMH ??‍♂️

      • QueenAdele July 20, 2019

At least Taylor and Adele sells millions which your fave struggle to do

It makes me sad to see people hate on her or discredit her; which artist in our time is doing anything that she does? unproblematic and always representing culture in the best way she can! She brought this together to create a difference, i really hope this gets more attention I’m rooting for her and showing black people from everywhere can come together! So proud

    • The Disrespectful Poet July 20, 2019

So very sad. I quietly played it at a party last night and folks were shook. ??

    • AdeleFan July 20, 2019

It’s plenty of artists out there that makes musicbfor the culture. U have Kendrick, j. Cole, Janelle monae, Alicia Keys, common, erykah badu, elle varner and the list goes on yet none of them gets half the recognition Beyoncé get because they dont walk around half naked on stage n shake their ass for a living.

      • QueenAdele July 20, 2019

Stop pretending your Adele fan. You are beyonce and jay z fan. Stop trolling

      • S.U.P.E.R.S.T.A.!. July 20, 2019

        @Adele.. — Ooookkkay!
        #Preach That!

    • Tyty July 20, 2019

Black people hate themselves so they can’t love anything which celebrates them. If she was twerking with her b*** cheeks hanging out talking about how her p**** is the best. Believe they would lap that up. Blacks ain’t used to somebody at the top actually turning around and reaching their hand to lift them up. It’s bigger than beyonce.

      • MessyBoots July 20, 2019

        ^THAT part!

  4. Clarkson July 20, 2019

Hot for one week, after that everybody will forget about this lame album

A love letter to Africa, a complete joke. all the songs sang by African musicians are horrible. Weak vocal, silly lyrics,

After all the press and hype, none of the song will debut in the top 20 and after one week they will all fall out of the charts. Beyonce songs have zero staying power.

    • Tyler (We are the grandchildren of the slaves you couldn’t kill) July 20, 2019

Kelly Clarkson looks like clotted milk sis. So relax!

    • Dc July 20, 2019

Agreed fake African stuff not believable

      • WRTW? July 20, 2019

How can it be fake African if African artists are making the music. Literally African pop stars

  5. QueenAdele July 20, 2019

    Adele 21> Beyonce Discography
Adele 25 first week sales> Lemonade, 4 and everything is flopped total discography
Adele slayed beyonce’s career since 2011

    Adele aint bothered
    Taylor aint bothered

Featuring her voice in lion king movie is her desperate move to be relevant

    • Lanafan1 July 20, 2019

Adele loves and adores Beyonce. She wouldn’t appreciate your b*******. Stop!

      • QueenAdele July 20, 2019

        But you cannot deny that
        Adele 25 sold 700k in a day
Taylor sold 1,2 million in a week
Gaga sold 200k in a week

And beyonce with disney hype promo struggle to sell 18k in a week for pure album????

    • Haterz Gon‘ Hate July 20, 2019

Except Beyoncé is an ENTERTAINER Dances – Sings – brings the creativity and cultural IMPACT with her music. Adele is an okay technical singer who stands on the spot and delivers primarily ballads – she may sell more than Beyoncé but she just isn’t on the same level as an artist. And you will deal with that ????

      • QueenAdele July 20, 2019

        Adele sings better than Beyonce
Janet and Ciara dance better than Beyonce
        Madonna is better visuals
Gaga is the better at soundtrack

        13-18k? Lol

  6. Sena July 20, 2019

It’s funny how Beyoncé getting soo much hate I’m sorry but the whole album is really put together well and how can you guys not love the song brown skin girls the song and message is beautiful I think she done a great job but because it’s beyonce everyone try’s to find anything to hate…I say it’s a well done album for what it is…standout songs and has single potential is water. Mood 4eva . Brown skin girl, don’t jealous me

  7. Lanafan1 July 20, 2019

I was not always a Beyonce fan. Growing up, I loved Destiny’s Child. But during my middle school and high school years, Beyonce was so overexposed. She was everywhere. And it was nauseating. Like, she had bops, I can never take that away from her. But it wasn’t until most recently that I found respect for her. Despite her not leaving Jay-Z, she has exemplified what a strong black woman is.

She has given love to our culture in a beautiful way. The songs on this album are dope. And even if you don’t like Beyonce, the musicians, composers, and other vocalists put in a lot of time and effort. At least show them some respect. Why can’t be just be supportive of others? Why must we hate?

    • ??? July 20, 2019

lmaooo oh please, a strong black woman doesn’t stay with a man who constantly cheats on her in her face while she just sits back and becomes a baby factory for him. you need better role models lmfaooooo ? ?? ?

  8. Keith July 20, 2019

I hope the success of this record will help Beyoncé continue to want to make more sophisticated music going forward. I like most of her songs on the curation. Kudos to her on this project…

  9. Dc July 20, 2019

Album so unauthentic and not believable

  10. ??? July 20, 2019

lmaooo but didn’t #HomeFLOPPING and everything is FLOPPED also storm to #1 on itunes and apple music? lmfaooooo ? ?? ?

    • QueenAdele July 20, 2019

That album sold 1 million in a week according to beyhives ???
