With a whopping 13 consecutive weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, Lil Nas X‘s ‘Old Town Road’ is unquestionably the year’s biggest hit. Lauded for its experimental fusion of Country and Trap genres, the song’s also earned applause for being one of few hit, mainstream Rap numbers devoid of explicit references to sex, drugs, or violence.
Yet, after the 20-year-old took to Twitter on World Pride Day (June 30) to end speculation about his sexuality (click here to read more on that), congratulatory comments were rivaled only by ridicule from those who asserted the horse referred to in ‘Road’ was a metaphor for gay sex.
As the jokes continued, Nas took to Twitter to respond with a detailed explanation about the song’s inspiration. See it inside:

He can say what he wants but this could definitely be something that ends his career. Not saying it should but it’s almost as if he is self sabotaging himself after being afraid of continued success potentially coming. Now should be remain a one hit wonder he can blame it on America’s homophobia. This will be interesting to watch.

He likely did not have a choice but to come out. In his interviews he acts feminine and his fingernails are painted with clear gloss so that already got the rumors started months ago. He ran a Nicki Minaj fan club. He’s also from Atlanta and u know 9/10 men down there are gay. Straight people dont come out because the already are…they are living their life…why can’t gay people do the same, and if you just happen to be walking down the street with your boyfriend and someone sees, then so be it. Oh trust me, I am. No need to “pose”. Is it so hard to believe that not every person thinks alike? Forget gay or straight. I’m an individual and I honestly disagree with alot of things gay and straight. But don’t get me wrong, I support my gay close friends in however they want to live their life…just, for me, I just can’t with the public outcry of sexuality. Its superfluous.
