Monica: ‘I Would Love To Do a Las Vegas Residency’ [Video]

Published: Monday 29th Jul 2019 by Rashad

The last year has probably seen the phrase ‘Vegas residency’ ride atop headlines more than ever before.  After hitmakers Celine Dion, Britney Spears, Mariah Carey, and Jennifer Lopez broke ground in Sin City to prove it to be a lucrative move for artists in and beyond their primes, the likes of Janet Jackson, Anita Baker, Drake, Cardi B, Christina Aguilera, and many more have followed suit.

Now, with her newest Billboard #1 hit in tow, R&B veteran Monica has shared news she too would like to join the ranks of artists bringing their brigade of hits to the Strip.

Taking to our friends at BUILD last week, the 38-year-old spoke on an array of topics including her new R&B chart-topper, ‘Commitment,’ publicized divorce from basket baller Shannon Brown, running her own independent label, and more.  But, when quizzed on if she would ever consider doing Broadway (a la fellow R&B divas Toni Braxton, Michelle Williams, and ‘Boy is Mine’ co-star Brandy), Mo gave quite the surprising response.

I could see her doing a residency somewhere like House of Blues. I don’t think she could fill the bigger stages like the Colliseum

i didn’t detect shade. it’s true. she could easily do a smaller venue.

i think an artist would rather sell out a smaller venue than have that same amount of people only half fill a bigger space. just like the artist wants to make money so does the venue and promoter

Thank you King Z. I was not trying to be shady at all.

I don’t get why artists think Vegas is the only place to do a residency. Vegas is tired. Nowadays all majors cities (except Atlanta) have casinos. Why not do a residency in Miami, London, New York, etc.?

excellent point! there’s definitely less competition in those other cities. part of it is because vegas is a non-stop tourist attraction.

i guess the draw for some artists is also that they can piggyback off the success of others. when i went to vegas, i went to see jlo but figured i might as well see others since i was there.

That makes sense now. Usually when I go to Vegas I also end up seeing artists I would not typically see just because I am there.

Wrong! So you mean Gaga, Bruno Mars, Cardi B, Drake, Maluma, JLo, Janet Jackson are all artist that no one cares about? GTFOH all those artist have residencies here currently. Don’t do my city. We still the #1 Entertainment capitol in the world 70 years running consecutively and one of the RICHEST places in the USA

She could come here and do a residency. There is a local Denny’s here that has a section for entertainment near the kitchen. It seats about 12. That should be enough for her. She only needs to operate at an 80% Capacity So she should be alright!
