Ja Rule Slams “Bad Breath” 50 Cent, Talks Ashanti “Ghost-Singing” For J.Lo, & More on #WWHL [Video]

Published: Sunday 6th Oct 2019 by Rashad

‘Fyre’-starter Ja Rule was in the hot seat on Sunday’s episode of BRAVO’s ‘Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen’ (October 6).

Formally on hand to discuss his role on the WeTV reality series ‘Growing Up Hip Hop: New York,’ the ‘Always on Time’ hitmaker took a little time to shade longtime rival 50 Cent to remind viewers their nearly 2-decade long feud is still alive and well.

As if that wasn’t enough, Rule also weighed in on those pesky rumors his longtime collaborator Ashanti was the real vocalist behind his #1 hit with Jennifer Lopez, 2001’s ‘I’m Real.’

Hear him discuss all this and more inside:

Ja on the Fyre Fest:

His answer echoes Ashanti’s when asked if she was the “ghost voice” on the record. Watch her discuss the matter in an interview from the early 2000’s below (start at :44 mark):

the better question would’ve been if ashanti plans on being a “ghost voice” for jlo at the super bowl.

sis will need all the help she can get

    • eric October 7, 2019

That’s funny, because she did just fine on the It’s My Party tour.

  2. Justme October 7, 2019

We all know jlo sings get own songs because they sound flat like her voice. Also there are plenty of songs where artist and the demo are singing the chorus. It’s the chorus people the chorus not the verses

Ashanti was ROBBED of a number 1

    • Pu$$yPopstress October 7, 2019

You can’t possibly think those songs would’ve gone to #1 had Ashanti sang them at the time

A #1 hit is often less as much about the song as it is the singer and the machine behind him or her

      • ? Jasmine’s Grape Juice ? ? October 7, 2019

I disagree with that. During that time Ashanti was making hits after hits. You are forgetting the time period these records came out.

      • SMH October 7, 2019

Exactly, Ashanti was one of the main hitmakers of the early 2000s. They would have definitely went #1 with her name on them.

  4. Shadia October 7, 2019

She sang chorus for 2 or 3 songs which I do love but many artist have it done and JLO career still took off and became bigger after those tracks. Seems like A shanties career needs help by always talking about it.

Blame Irv gotti and J. Lo’s record label for not mixing the songs better.

    • SMH October 7, 2019

And you can thank JLo’s um, “connections” to Diddy & Tommy Mottola for her career taking off.

      • GardiBang October 7, 2019

Lmfaoooooo!!! The song was Ashantis but Tommy gave Jlo the records.. same thing happened with Christina Millian and her song PLAY..

Ashanti gurl, you avail for the superbowl?

  6. Truth October 7, 2019

Jarule can still get it…damn it just something about him and his mannerisms when. He is a zaddy now haha

    • SMH October 7, 2019

Agreed, I’d still bend him over lmao

  7. Only Facts October 7, 2019

JLO…girl, I love you but give Ashanti her credit

  8. Gee October 7, 2019

We all know that their vocals are mixed together on the song. Jlo will never give Ashanti her credit just like C.Milian never got credit for co-writing and singing on Play.

    • GardiBang October 7, 2019

Lol and that poor girl on ‘If You Had My Love’ got paid dust for her vocals on the chorus.. Diddy, Tommy and Jlo been frauds

  9. JaZzy Da Bi Asian TGJ STAFF SUPPORT #TROLLminators October 7, 2019

Any person with a brain can hear that J.Lo sings the verse and Ashanti is singing the chorus. It’s happened many times with many artists.

    • ? Jasmine’s Grape Juice ? ? October 7, 2019

Yeah like when Kelly Rowland sang half of ‘Check On It’ by Beyonce. Its not that J. Lo cannot carry a tune. It is lazy producers and mixers who did not do their job right because they rushed to make the song using demo vocals instead of forcing the artist to put in more recording time at the studio.

BTW Your TGJ staff support application is denied troll here on Jasmine’s Grape Juice. Ive been running things on here since 2009 and do not need your services.

Idk see what the issue is with this so-called “ghost singing” Its not even ghost singng. Christina and Ashanti are both credited as writers and background singers for all songs they contributed to. They also got paid and continue to receive their due royalties. People are just making a big deal bc theyre actually known artists, when random unknown people do background vocals all the time. How do ppl not know or get this? Yall act like theyre singing the entire song and Jennifer is lip syncing on some Milli Vanilli sh*t. Cut it out.

Ashanti sang w JLo in the hook of ain’t it funny remix, you can hear it.. Christina Milian sang on the hook of play. Backup singers on tracks isn’t uncommon, she just happened to work w people who were or became famous lol. But she doesn’t have a ghost singer lol. Just lots of backup vocals on her first few albums.
