When Taylor Swift released her smash hit tune ‘Shake It Off‘, a number of music enthusiasts pointed out the track’s similarity to 3LW‘s hit single ‘Playas Gon Play’.
A legal fight began when word of this reached the latter’s writers.

‘Playas Gon Play’ was written by Sean Hall and Nathan Butler for 3LW who released it on the 1st of May 2001. Though it peaked at #89 on the Billboard Hot 100, its impact was felt globally and helped propel the trio to household name status.

Now, after a district judge dismissed a lawsuit launched by 3LW’s writers because they found “insufficient similarity between the songs”, a federal judge has reversed the ruling as they believe a jury should decide whether or not Swift ripped them off.
