Andre 3000 has revealed that he isn’t in a good place artistically.
His thoughts and feelings below…
In an interview with ‘Broken Record’ podcast he revealed that he has lost the confidence to create the kind of music he’d like to make.
I haven’t been making much music, man. My focus is not there, my confidence is not there.I haven’t been motivated to do a serious project. I’d like to, but it’s just not coming. In my own self, I’m tryna figure out where do I sit. I don’t even know what I am and maybe I’m nothing. Maybe I’m not supposed to be anything.I’m just trying to find out what makes me feel the best right now, and what makes me feel the best is when I just do these random kind of instrumental kind of things. They make me feel the most rebellious.
He admits that criticism of his recent material has set him back.
Any little thing I put out is instantly attacked, not in a good or bad way. People nitpick it with fine-tooth combs. ‘Oh, he said that word!’ And that’s not a great place to create from. And it makes you draw back and maybe I don’t have the confidence that I want or the space to experiment like I used to.

Well, Andre, you don’t have to put out another song because everything you have released is CLASSIC, highly influential and amazing! ❤️ I truly mean that! I own his whole catalog of music! I was just listening to Harry Style’s She, and I said this sounds like a song on The Love Below! ? My mom plays Player’s Ball around Christmas cause she loves the LaFace Christmas CD ? ? I hear your influence everywhere! I remember buying one of OutKast’s CD’s for $30 bucks at FYE! Now you know that’s love lol…a true artist, Grammy Album Of The Year winning, and real talent!

Andre is such a great person. His music will always stand the test of time. Loved his work on James Blake’s last record.
He literally was just nominated for a Grammy for his song with Anderson paak and he’s talking about too much criticism?? People literally beg him for music. I’m convinced he’s suffering from depression because there’s no way he can feel this way. I’ve never heard a bad verse by him in my life. Because they don’t exist.
Andre is a REAL artist who only creates when inspired, and he clearly is not inspired at the moment. His interest doesn’t lie in dropping trendy, microwavable hits – but music from the heart. Let him be. When it’s time, it’s time and I’ll be greatly anticipating.
I agree with this but I’m also happy that he was honest enough to admit that he is struggling with creativity. That makes him seem more human. When the inspiration comes, it will come. In the meantime, we will deal…
