To the general public, Azealia Banks is a foul-mouthed rapper most known for feuding with her peers.
To the creatively inclined, the controversial artist is a boundary-pushing artiste responsible for some of the most innovative pieces of work to be launched in the last ten years.
Today, she has announced that she is to retire from music.
Her announcement below….
The entertainer feels that the ideas develops as an independent artist are mined by the music industry to add edge, character and charisma to the Pop stars it champions.
She also revealed that she is offended by the fact that she is compared to entertainers like Iggy Azalea and Tinashe who, as far as she sees it, are beneath her…at least as far as talent and innovation are concerned.
Banks was ushered into the business by the British arm of the music industry when she was discovered by Diplo and XL Recordings in 2008 aged 17.
Following her split from the label the musician found a friend in Adele producer Paul Epworth and unleashed her breakout tune ‘212′ in the September of 2011 and later signed to Polydor and Interscope Records…home to Lady Gaga and her then-friend Lana Del Rey.
After splitting with the label and manager Troy Taylor the rapper launched a career as an independent musician and launched her debut album, ‘Broke with Expensive Taste‘, on November 7th 2014.
The album, and its tracks, have been streamed over 150 million times to date.

Extremely talented lady, awful at PR. It’s a shame she constantly alienates huge chunks of her audience with her non-musical actions, because her music actually is dope.
You can’t constantly complain about “the gays” and be successful at making club music though… Any personal feelings aside, it’s just bad business.
