Mariah Carey Becomes First Artist Ever To Score #1’s In Four Separate Decades As ‘All I Want For Christmas’ Extends Reign

Published: Monday 30th Dec 2019 by Sam

Mariah Carey isn’t finished re-writing history.

Because she’s just snatched another colossal record, thanks to her 19th #1 ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You.’

Full story below…

In extending its reign atop of the Billboard Hot 100 for a third week (the Jan 4th 2020 edition of the tally), the holiday classic has earned Mimi the coveted honor of being the only artist in the charts history to have scored #1 singles in four separate decades.

For Carey, those decades are the 90s, 00s, 10s, and now the 20s.

So how did she do it?

In the tracking week that encompassed Christmas, ‘All I Want’ amassed gargantuan US streams of 72.2 million. With Christmas Eve seeing the song break the record for most streams amassed in a single day (12 million).

Within the same period, its total downloads were 17,000 and its all-format radio play soared to an impressive 30.9 million.

Suffice to say, it adds an iconic new chapter to Carey’s already legendary career. And, in many ways, sets up the most fertile of foundations for her new music to come.

Congrats!

    We love to see it.

    Talent.

Has many SOLO #1 hits and countless solo top 40 hits.

Doesn’t rely on features. Can stand on her own two feet. Can’t say the same for others

    • E. December 30, 2019

      A simple congratulations would’ve sufficed. #BITTERMUCH

    • Rashad December 30, 2019

Cher didn’t have a #1 in the 80s. Ironic bc If I Could Turn Back Time is probably her best single ever

  8. Rashad December 30, 2019

Mariah is a living legend of the highest degree and deserves nothing but respect at this point. She’s like Cher, Madonna, Celine, Janet, Springsteen, Miss Ross, Dolly, Stevie, Tina, Elton and Billy Joel…none of them need to prove a damn thing. All legends

    • MessyBoots December 30, 2019

      ^This. On period!

  9. only facts December 30, 2019

Hey Nicki, remember when you shaded Mariah on American Idol and insinuated she was washed up? We’re still waiting for you to get ONE #1 hit in ANY decade. LOL

    MARIAH IS QUEEN!

    • E. December 30, 2019

Damn!!! Can Mariah shine without Nicki being brought up? Let Mariah have her moment. Damn some of y’all are so obsessed with Nicki y’all can’t congratulate certain female artist without bring Nicki into the equation. Meanwhile, Nicki is minding her business not bothering anybody. That American Idol s*** was so long ago.

      • High Price December 30, 2019

Lmao! Even though you have a point, but no one is obsessed with Nicki. It’s just the shade writes itself.. ☕.. Those were her (nicki’s) words and now she can eat them. Mind you Nicki KEPT going on after Mariah left it alone and barely addressed in interviews. Now Karmas a bish isn’t she?

Congratulations MC! THE REST can #Seethe ?

      • E. December 30, 2019

@High Price, no I didn’t know who kept doing what cause I didn’t follow that sh… I have better things to do with my time than watch celebrities go back & forth with each other. Nicki’s still rich so I’m sure she’s sleeping good at night. #UNBOTHERED

    • King Khia December 30, 2019

      Facts and ONLY facts ❤️❤️❤️❤️

  10. Jay December 30, 2019

    Well-deserving!!! Congrats Mariah!!

  11. E C December 30, 2019

I thought Janet already had a #1 in each of the past 4 decades:

80s: What Have You Done For Me Lately, Nasty, When I Think Of You, Control, Let’s Wait A While, Pleaure Principle, Miss You Much, Rhythm Nation

90s: Escapade, Black Cat, Love Will Never Do (Without You), That’s The Way Love Goes, Again, Together Again

00s: Doesn’t Really Matter, All For You

    10s: Make Me

    • K_man December 30, 2019

Totally understanding where your coming from but Dance charts and hot 100 are two different charts. Technically has janet had number ones in the 10’s yes! But not on the hot 100, no shade I love Janet!

      • E C December 30, 2019

Ah, okay. I didn’t realize that, when talking about #1s, people are talking specifically about Hot 100s and not any other list.

However, she has #1 albums in each of the 4 decades.

    • Caleb December 30, 2019

Make Me did not chart on the hot 100.

    • Happy n Rich December 30, 2019

What Have You Done For Me Lately, Nasty, Control, Let’s Wait A While, and Pleasure Principle were all hits, but none of these hit #1 on the Hot 100.

      • MessyBoots December 30, 2019

No they were not No.1 on the Hot 100 back in the 80s.

But Miss You Much the lead single from Rhythm Nation 1814 was released in August 1989 and hit No.1 for 4 weeks, becoming the longest running No.1 of that year. It was also the 2nd best selling pop single and biggest radio airplay hit of 1989.

  12. Ratedxxx December 30, 2019

    The baddest bish…

No one can touch her sales and numero uno hits after hits

She never has to release another album ever..

She has nothing else to prove

    • only facts December 30, 2019

      Facts!

  13. High Price December 30, 2019

MC! There will never be another! Facts!

  14. King Khia December 30, 2019

Mariah for President of the World!!!

  15. Ari December 30, 2019

    Janet jackson will never

    • High Price December 30, 2019

Haha! They neck and neck with the accolades fool. So there’s no competition there. #BeenTheDoneThat…

    • Ssa December 31, 2019

Janet has number one albums spanning 4 decades. 80’s, 90’s, 00‘s and 10’s.

  16. Gee December 30, 2019

Congratulations to the legend, the one, the only Mariah Carey!!!!

  17. J December 30, 2019

She did it! Well deserved too. She is a master at her craft – and history will tell it too! can’t take that away from her. ?

Can we please get a duet with Ari? Y’all don’t want to hear it but watch if it happens it’ll go to #1 and be her 20th!! Wishful thinking lol

  18. MessyBoots December 30, 2019

Queen of Christma, No.1s, decades, songwriters, 5 octave ranges, whistle register, festivities, ensembles, lambs, Dembabies, Billboard etc

  19. Karter December 30, 2019

Yes!! Mariah The SUPREME!! She deserves it and more! I’m so happy she’s getting this recognition and reminding people who the Queen of the Hot 100 is! Came up in the 90s, ruled the late 90s/2000s, remained relevant in the 2010s, and heading into the 2020s with the 1st number one song (a 25 year old song!) on the Hot 100 of the decade. Legendary, iconic, the REAL Queen! ???

  20. Ropeburn December 30, 2019

Dayum. Sis racked up a #1 for this decade and the next one with a 25 year old song. Dem legend tings!!

  21. Moti25 December 31, 2019

Ugh it’s time to move on people! It happened, it’s great, we get it. Next!!!

  22. Yo December 31, 2019

Janet isn’t in the same league as Mariah. Janet can’t really sing, millions can out sing her. Not many can sing like mariah. That’s the difference.

  23. Rowena January 1, 2020

This song will forever be my favorite at Christmas time

  24. KA January 1, 2020

Congrats Mariah, you and Janet are showing what true success looks like one that last.
