From The Vault: Britney Spears – ‘Oops!… I Did It Again’

Published: Sunday 17th May 2020 by Joe

Today, we celebrate years of a Pop pillar. ‘Oops… I Did It Again’ by the iconic Britney Spears is this week’s From The Vault pick.

After a spectacular debut era, the world was ready to discover if the young diva would be able to surpass (or at least match) the success she scored with ‘… Baby One More Time’.

Armed with the confidence of having a surefire hit on their hands, Team Spears came blazing with ‘Oops…’

Helmed by Max Martin and Rami Yacoub – the masterminds behind Spears’ debut smash – the release proved to be the seismic hit all involved were hoping for. It peaked inside the Top 10 in the US and hit #1 in over 15 countries – including the UK, Australia and Canada.

Beyond the song’s infectiousness, its Nigel Dick directed video undoubtedly turbo-charged its performance (and cultural resonance).

Hugged by her red hot bodysuit and backed by an army of dancers, Britney is presented as the leader of Mars and greets a lost astronaut with a full-on performance of the jam.

Sexier, edgier and fiercer, the clip (which was choreographed by Tina Landon) saw Spears stepping further into her womanhood. Much to the delight of the press – and the dismay of the conservative masses.

********

What a difference 20 years can make.

Britney still very much stands as Pop royalty to this day, but it’s safe to say circumstance has eroded some of the effortless zeal she once evoked.

2016’s ‘Glory’ era showed promise, however there have been much-reported setbacks since.

Nonetheless, as has been the case for the past decade, we’re continually rooting for Britney  and are hopeful she recaptures the magic she once possessed in earnest. So as to make the whole world say “she did it again!”

Most overrated pop girl of all time. Completely manufactured and told what to do. At least Rihanna can sing

Dumbf*ck. You realize Britney’s most critically acclaimed album BLACKOUT was executive produced by her right? Do you realize Blackout is also in the rock and roll hall of fame?! Where is Beyonce in the rock and roll hall of fame? I’ll wait. Also, Britney May no longer be at her prime, but she is the EPITOME of a pop star! Why do all of the pop girls strive to have her career and come to her shows? There’s pics of Beyoncé, Katy, Madonna, Ciara, Miley, etc etc at her concerts. Loser. No matter who YOU stan, Britney’s stats WILL ALWAYS outweigh them. You better act like Aaliyah and try again.

She’s definitely not most overrated do your homework most Britney image is her ideas & it’s sad she doesn’t get any credit. All her directors say she comes up with the treatment of most her videos & all writers & producer say she has parts in crating her music but she doesn’t like to take credit away from the writers

They tried to use Dua Flopa to recreate another Britney but failed LOL! The industry is so pathetic using people as an avatar to build pop stars for the coin.

What if Taylor’s songs chart higher than Katy’s new song? 🤣😩😂😭🤣🤣🤣 That’s what happens when you diss Britney Spears. #karma
