Chart Check [Billboard 200]: ‘Bigger Love’ Lands Legend’s Lowest First Week Sales Yet

Published: Tuesday 30th Jun 2020 by Rashad

John Legend may have given his latest album, ‘Bigger Love,’ one of the biggest promo pushes any Urban act has seen this year, but those combined efforts didn’t result in much love from music buyers.

Released June 19, the LP – preceded by singles ‘Actions,’ ‘Conversations in the Dark,’ and its title track – went to chart battle with little buzz despite a media onslaught that featured appearances in or on high profile print, television, radio, and Web outlets.

Industry analysts suggested ‘Bigger’s first week sales would lodge Legend’s lowest ever (as we reported here).  Now that all sales and streams have been tallied, it seems their assessment was accurate.

Look inside to see just how many units the opus shifted:

John Legend’s ‘Bigger Love’

First Week Sales (SPS):  26,000

First Week Sales (Pure):  12,500

First Week Billboard 200 Placement:  #19

With a #19 premiere, ‘Bigger Love’ may have managed to outperform the predictions but it still brought the EGOT winner’s lowest first week sales and Billboard 200 placement yet (among studio albums).

The personal milestone was previously held by his 2016 effort, Darkness and Light,’ which bowed at #14 on the chart with first week sales of 38,000 (SPS).  Featuring high-profile guest stars Gary Cark Jr., Jhene Aiko, and Koffee, listen to ‘Bigger’ by clicking here.

Look below to see who joins John in the top 25 on this week’s TGJ Chart Check: Billboard 200 edition.

    Flop.
That’s what u get for turning ur career into the chrissy and john show. 🤮🤮

He revived his career with all of me, then he destroyed it all over again by making everything about his annoying wife.

This is exactly how nickis “pink Friday 2” will perform in its first week 😂

Poor John….. but I’m tired of him singing all songs about his wife… Can we get more uptempo tracks, like green light or A good night….

Wow, did worse than Teyana Taylor and that hit Top 10. Not sure if speaks to his (lack of) relevancy or fan base.

Not surprising considering that he had no real big hit leading up to the album, or a big hit on radio that fans are flocking to. Honestly John missed the mark with this album the material is just alright nothing really to brag about.

He continues to work with Buju Banton, the man that encouraged people to murder gays with “Boom Bye Bye” and other songs. Banton just got out of prison for cocaine trafficking, went on a fake gay apology tour and then took it all back. Legend is a FRAUD and so his is two-faced wife.
