Album Stream: Taylor Swift’s ‘Folklore’

Published: Thursday 23rd Jul 2020 by Rashad

It’s here!

Not even a year after dropping her double Platinum seventh studio album, ‘Lover,’ GRAMMY-winning Pop diva Taylor Swift stunned fans with news she’d completed its follow-up, ‘Folklore.’

Assembling her “musical heroes” Bon Iver, Jack Antonoff, William Bowery, Aaron Dessner, and more to contribute to the 16-song LP, Swift issued a statement to trumpet the set’s arrival just Thursday (July 23).

“Before this year I probably would’ve overthought when to release this music at the ‘perfect’ time, but the times we’re living in keep reminding me that nothing is guaranteed,” Swift wrote in her statement announcing the project. “My gut is telling me that if you make something you love, you should just put it out into the world. That’s the side of uncertainty I can get on board with.”

Look inside to see if the risk paid off.

Probably the slowest and sleepiest album I’ve ever heard.

Gurl, how can u make such a conclusion, the album was just released 20 minutes ago

  3. Steve July 23, 2020

Agreed. All the songs sound the same. Passing on this.

This is Tay’s “man of the woods” moment. Her self absorbed, self indulged deep album that’s supposed reintroduce fans yo her roots. She peaked with 1989

  6. Fierce July 24, 2020

    I love the album.

  7. Really July 24, 2020

    It’s amazing

I want to like it but it’s too deep, introspective and lacking in self awareness that will cause many fans to feel disconnected from it. Pop albums can be deep masterpieces…see Ray of Light, Velvet Rope, Butterfly, 21, Lemonade etc but this is too sleepy and strays too far from the genre that made Taylor a superstar. Red, 1989 and even Lover had the perfect balance of catchy songs and some very deep and profound lyrics that were also tied to catchy songs. This album wants to be Fiona Apple instead of Taylor the global pop megastar. Maybe it’ll grow on me but I’m underwhelmed after the first listen.

She’s much less annoying when she’s being melancholy and sombre V’s prancing around singing nursery rhymes. The production is actually nice. She should release an instrumental version of the album to bring the production to the fore.

      Agreed

The album is selling $8.99 on iTunes😂🤣😂🤣desperate! Y’all go for a cheap out???? The whole album is Zzzzz, sounds like The b sides or rejected tracks from her earlier country albums.

I don’t think she’s intending for this album to be a ‘major release’. It seems like its going to be a digital-only era like when H.E.R. made her EP only available in streaming sites. And seeing as there’s a pandemic happening and she can’t do a world tour to earn $$$ its kind of wise of her to release a ‘safe’ album like this right now.

    No. No. No.

  13. Urg July 24, 2020

Hard pass. Mist def her wrost album.

  14. High Price July 24, 2020

Snoozefest! I got through the song but I couldn’t listen to the album. To each it’s own though.

  15. Winner July 24, 2020

August is a nice song, apart from that the album is boring.

  16. #TheTruth July 24, 2020

So I just listened to the snippets out of curiosity. It sounds boring.
I know snippets don’t necessarily make justice especially regarding the lyrics.

I don’t really like her music that much in the first place.
But it sounds very repetitive, not meaning songs sound identical, but set in the same mood. To me, an album has to offer different tempos and sounds, and take you on a journey.
    This is just… flat.

    That’s very risky for her.
    1) She’s not that big worldwide and this won’t help.
    2) The past 2 albums, even tho having good sales and huge tours, didn’t really meet expectations. But for her defense, she’s set the bar quite high for herself commercially speaking and she knows she won’t be able to pull that off all the time.

I don’t think she’s bothered I mean her Lover World Tour is cancelled due to the pandemic. Only way for her to continue working as a musician at a time like this is to release a safe album. Even if it doesn’t do as well as 1989, Reputation and Lover, her market value isn’t really going to drop by that much especially at a time like this..

    • Aphrodite July 25, 2020

@thetruth , you are wrong. Taylor is actually popular worldwide not just America. She’s huge in Asia especially China and Philippines,. Also she is now a mega star in Europe and Australia

      .
      @taylorswift13
was the #1 most streamed artist on global Spotify on July 24 with nearly 97 million listens following #folklore release.

The biggest single day streams for any artist this entire year.

  17. CC Up July 24, 2020

People asked for the country Taylor Swift and they got it via Folkore. Not my cup of tea tbh but kudos to her for making an effort to cater to her fans who miss her early-country days.

    • Charli Cheer Up July 24, 2020

PS: I think she’s pulling a stripped-back era here(eg. Gaga doing Joanne, Miley with Younger Now). Due to the current pandemic, her Lover world tour is postponed and rather than sitting back she decided to release a ‘safe’ album instead. Good way to have a steady source of income.

  18. PinotNoir July 24, 2020

    Turns out…

She shoulda put out Lover NOW.

This decaf Norah Jones ain’t it. 😪

    • High Price July 24, 2020

Lmao!!!! Yes! Last night when I heard the single I instantly thought of Norah Jones!

  19. Wendy williams July 24, 2020

Fiona Apple was found wigless and shaking!! ☠️😭 For tho…this album sucks.
