To say Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion‘s joint hit, ‘WAP,’ made a splash on the Billboard Hot 100 this week would be an understatement of epic proportion.
Since its August 7 debut, the Ayo the Producer-helmed cut – which largely samples Frank Ski‘s 1992 club anthem ‘Whores in the House’ – has been bumping from houses, cars, and maybe even outer space if the out-of-this-world figures attached to its first-week sales performance are any indication.

Already certified Gold by the RIAA (which denotes sales equivalence of 500,000) within its first 7 days of availability, ‘WAP’s opening garnered the largest commercial response for an all-female collaboration ever.
Here are ‘WAP’s official first-week numbers:
- Streaming – 93 million U.S. (the biggest streaming opening in history)
- Digital Downloads – 125,000 downloads
- Radio airplay – 11.6 million radio airplay audience
Alongside the placement on the Hot 100 are placements in history books for Cardi. While the chart championship marks Megan’s second reign, it’s B’s fourth.
With her first two (as a leader) – ‘Bodak Yellow’ and ‘I Like It’ – climbing to the tally’s summit in 2017 and 2018 respectively, ‘WAP’s 2020 reign makes her the first female rapper to have four #1 hits and first female rapper to have #1 hits in two different decades.
For Stallion, she trots into history books for not only being the youngest female rapper to collect two #1 hits, but she also did it the fastest as ‘Savage,’ her inaugural chart-topper, rose to the top just three months ago (click here to read more).
