Brandy has THREE back to back classic R&B albums. Never Say Never! Full Moon (touted as the modern R&B Bible)! Afrodisiac! Monica doesn’t have that.

As a fan of both I’ll go on record to say they both have very solid catalogues from 1994 – 2004. Somewhere after that they both got lost. Released a bunch of forgettable material that underperformed. Monica bounced back with “Still Standing”— an amazing effort filled with beautiful melodies and vocals. Brandy then came back with a vengeance. “Two Eleven” was a wonderful body of work. That album showed that Brandy still had it and could bring it commercial wise. Monica lost me again with “New Life” a couple good songs but it was a boring, generic listen overall. “Code Red” had a few highlights and Monica tried different things with it, but once again she failed to capture the essence of Monica that made us fall in love with her. “B7” on the other hand is an interesting listen. Brandy showing her muses and copycats that they still can’t do it like her. Unconventional song structures, heavenly harmonies and her signature velvety smooth vocals take us back to the old days while still sounding current. Hopefully Monica’s next effort is fire considering everything she has been through over the past few years. It’s a celebration not a competition. Both ladies have had high highs and low lows but we have to thank God that they’re still here .
