In June, the singer topped charts worldwide with her sixth studio album ‘Chromatica’ – an LP that also yielded #1 single ‘Rain On Me’ with Ariana Grande.
Yet, as with many projects, the global health crisis has forced a pause and pivot on plans, as the music industry tries to adapt to a new normal.
For Gaga, that meant postponing her Chromatica Ball stadium tour from this summer to summer 2021 and doing away with surprise performances at Coachella and a slew of other major platforms.
This week, much to the delight of fans, the relative silence ended when Mother Monster announced that she’ll be performing at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards.
And it appears it forms part of a bigger revitalization of the campaign.
Nicola Formichetti, Gaga’s fashion and creative director, shared as much in a new interview with furniture store CB2. Speaking on how he’s been spending quarantine, he said:
“I’ve been having fun working on Gaga’s new era, Chromatica. We have been busy working on new music videos, photo shoots and performances—and that has all kept me excited and busy.”

‘Chromatica’ is easily Gaga’s best body of work in years and packs a lot of musical and visual potential. So we say bring on the…everything! Here’s hoping plans include ‘Sour Candy,’ ‘Babylon,’ and perhaps something totally new (ala how Dua Lipa is expanding her ‘Future Nostalgia’ era).

C’mon the most obvious are her videos. But she’s part of that dark ring. If you did a little you’ll see it.
Perfect era (so far). Only a No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 single and a No. 5 Billboard Hot 100 single. Nine VMA nominations and around 1.4 million albums sold so far (since the end of May). Focused. 🙂
Stupid Love had a high peak based off hype – i believe it stayed on the chart for 13 weeks which is abysmal for 1. A lead single and 2. A gaga single.
Its true that Rain On Me was only as big as it was because of Ariana. Unfortunately GaGas popularity and star power in the “pop girl” lane/status has faded as she’s abandoned the sound for too long. She knew she needed one of the newer stars to aid the inevitable underperformance of this era because the music just isnt there. I never thought i’d say this but if she wants success and more recognition she needs to go back to the more stripped back sound/image. Not a contrived Joanne concept/album though, even thoigh it was moderately successful the music was crap barring 2-3 songs.
Chromatica may be a cohesive dance album but its not appealing to the masses and it only has a handful of good songs (of which i dont see any having potential for full single treatment). Sour Candy already had a nice peak due to BlackPink hype, but that wouldnt translate into longevity.
“Alice” is the only other undeniably good song left (I also like Babylon but thats never going to be a single) but its just too 90’s and niche to be a worldwide single. Maybe with an excellent video it could have some legs.
Quite sad to see that shes not able to make great songs on her own anymore – miss the fame monster days!
This! Gaga’s time is up! Any other singles she released will flop. This generation doesn’t give two f_cks about Gaga and she knows that, otherwise she would’ve released a third single by now.

If she releases the right singles, she can still win at this. At least we need one music video for “Replay” (cause is doing really well in TikTok) and another one for “Sour Candy” to feed the hardcore kpop stans. Both will be sure hits and then she can gift us with a remix and music video for “Babylon (Haus Laboratories Remix)”.
