Cardi B & Megan Thee Stallion’s ‘WAP’ #1 on Hot 100 & New Billboard Global Chart

Published: Monday 14th Sep 2020 by Rashad

After slipping from the main hit list’s top spot for two weeks thanks to BTS‘ explosive hit, ‘Dynamite’ (as we mentioned here), Cardi B & Megan Thee Stallion have ridden the wave back to #1 courtesy of their joint hit, ‘WAP.’

As if the song didn’t break Hot 100 history books wide open upon its chart premiere in late August (as we reported here), it’s also penciled in the record logs of Billboard’s newest global tally.

Stateside, the dynamic duo powered back to #1 thanks to a handsome collection of digital downloads, streams, and radio airplay.

  • Streaming: 48.2 million U.S. streams
  • Digital Downloads: 16,000 sold
  • Radio Airplay:  27.3 million radio airplay audience impressions

Their domination isn’t limited to the land of the free, however.  As proven by Billboard’s inaugural Global 200 chart, the two are seeing their hit, ‘WAP,’ make a splash around the world.

Designed to “rank songs based on streaming and sales activity culled from more than 200 territories around the world,” the placement calculations – much like the Hot 100 – includes data from a weighted formula that is comprised of official streams and digital downloads.

Billboard reports:

“Cardi B’s “WAP,” featuring Megan Thee Stallion, rules the initial Billboard Global 200 chart. The song leads with 100.9 million global streams and 23,000 global downloads sold in the week ending Sept. 10.

BTS’ “Dynamite” ranks at No. 2 on the Billboard Global 200 with 83.4 million streams and 36,000 sold.

Breaking down the chart’s metrics, “WAP” was the most-streamed song of the week globally and “Dynamite” was the top-selling title.”

The Fun thing about Cardi’s Rise to Fame is that her first claim to exposure was LOVE IN HIP HOP, which is basically CAREER S****** as opposed to helping or being an actual stepping stone. .. Yet still sh I tting multiple bricks over Nikkia Tired and Expired career with #1s and gramnys already. Wait till Cardi starts being a TOURING Force, it will just Another nail in Nikkis Coffin.

Imo CARDI is the first Female MC to truly CROSS OVER into Pop/Mainstream in a UNIVERSAL way. I’m starting to think Cardi is even better than Missy…

Okay, this has to be said lol…what took Billboard so long to make a Global Chart? 😂 Maybe it was too hard to do back in the day? 🤔 I just had to be fair to the Michael Jacksons, Madonnas and Whitneys of the world 🌎 Can’t wait to see the first Top 10 tho 👀 🤳🏽

    • Paulo September 15, 2020

It took them this long because the American music market was THEE one until the early 00s so Billboard could just be self-indulgent and force us overseas folks to cling to them. Now that streaming flatlined sales worldwide and made it possible for stars from other nationalities to become popular, they have to catch up and cater to the global audience.
