BLACKPINK Makes History With Highest First-Week Sales for a Girl Group in Over 12 Years

BLACKPINK have proven themselves to be the girls to beat on more than one occasion.

In addition to having made Billboard Hot 100 history for hitting the highest rungs on the tally of any female K-Pop group ever (as we reported here), their top 20 hit – ‘Ice Cream’ (featuring Selena Gomez) – was the first song by a girl group of any genre to debut in the chart region since Fifth Harmony‘s hit, ‘Work From Home,’ premiered at #12 in 2016.

Now that the tracking week has concluded for their Korean-English debut LP, ‘Ice Cream’s parent project ‘The Album,’ the quartet – comprised of Jennie, Lisa, Rosé, and Jisoo – are in mention with another girl group favorite of yesteryear.

Details inside:

With premiere sales of 110,000, ‘The Album’ debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200 (as we reported here).

The historic feat not only marks the highest rung any female K-Pop group has reached on the tally, it is also the highest-charting album by an all-female group since Danity Kane’s “Welcome to the Dollhouse” dominated the chart in 2008 (per Billboard).

Beyond the effort’s unprecedented global first-week sales, its latest single – ‘Lovesick Girls’ – has gotten so much love from fans it debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Global 200 excl. U.S. chart.

Report:

“BLACKPINK’s “Lovesick Girls,” sung in English and Korean, soars in No. 1 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart, thanks to 114 million streams and 17,000 downloads sold in territories outside the U.S. in the week ending Oct. 8.”

With this win, Korean acts BLACKPINK and BTS rule three of the four major Billboard charts (sans the Billboard 200).

It was a great album and all the hating comments have all weird names. But with fame comes haters. The album had great progression. Trap beats with guitar samples are an odd but great combination of sounds. Teddy Park and the other producers including one of the members did a great job of creating a good piece of work
